New Age Bullshit: Focus, Reality, and the Beyond

New Age Bullshit

If your focus your attention upon that which does not suit you, you get MORE of that which does not suit you.

Is this your intent?

If your intent is to experience that which is BEYOND your present experience, you might consider turning our attention towards that which is BEYOND your present experience.

“This is foolhardy,” you may think. “How am I to turn my attention towards something that I don’t even know about?”

“This is fantasy.”

And indeed it is.

Everything “worthwhile” in your world is imagined before you label it as “real.”

Which is why, if your focus your attention upon that which does not suit you, you get MORE of that which does not suit you.

“So how do I fix my problems?” you ask. “They don’t seem to be going away on their own.”

This merely proves that you are focused upon that which does not suit you. Otherwise, you would not even perceive the problem.

“So you’re saying that if I were standing in the middle of the road and I turned my attention away from the speeding car coming towards me, I would not be hit? That’s just new age bullshit.”

If this is your mindset, you obviously entertain the notion that it is NOT POSSIBLE to turn your attention away from your reality and thus move yourself to a different reality. This is why (in your reality) you perceive a car speeding towards you.

But it is just as possible to move your consciousness AWAY from the street, in which case the car never enters your mind — OR your reality. Perhaps in this version of reality, you are on the beach instead, getting stung by jellyfish.

“This type of thinking is just bullshit,” you say.

And so it is.

But only in YOUR reality.

Space Monkey Reflects: New Age Bullshit – The Interplay of Focus, Reality, and the Beyond

The idea that “where you place your focus, you amplify” has long been dismissed by skeptics as New Age nonsense. Yet, beneath the surface of this provocative assertion lies a profound exploration of the nature of reality, perception, and imagination. What we choose to focus on becomes our reality, not because we force it into existence, but because our consciousness acts as the lens through which reality takes shape.

The Feedback Loop of Focus

When you direct your attention toward what does not suit you—your problems, fears, or dissatisfactions—you create a feedback loop. The more energy you give to these aspects, the more they dominate your experience. This is not magic or mystical law; it is the nature of consciousness itself. Awareness amplifies that which it observes, making it appear more tangible and persistent.

This principle is not about denial or avoidance but about understanding the creative power of focus. Problems do not persist because they are inherently real; they persist because we make them real by repeatedly engaging with them. To fixate on a problem is to anchor it within your reality.

The Leap to the Beyond

Turning your attention to “that which is BEYOND your present experience” feels like fantasy because it requires stepping outside the familiar constructs of your current reality. This act of imagining something new—a world without the problem, a version of yourself free from limitation—is the essence of creation.

Skeptics might argue that imagining the beyond is foolish. How can you focus on what you do not know? But consider this: every meaningful creation, invention, or idea in your world began as an imagined possibility. Reality does not manifest in spite of imagination but because of it.

Fantasy is not escapism; it is the blueprint for potential realities. By shifting your focus to what lies beyond your immediate experience, you open yourself to new pathways and possibilities. This is not about ignoring your current reality but about expanding your perspective to see the infinite options available to you.

The Car in the Road

The classic objection to this line of thought is illustrated in the “car in the road” scenario. If you ignore a speeding car, does it cease to exist? Will denial prevent you from being hit? This question misses the point. The essence of this idea is not to deny the car but to understand that your current reality, including the car, reflects your focus and beliefs.

In one reality, you may be on a street with a speeding car. In another, you may find yourself on a beach being stung by jellyfish. The car is no more “real” than the beach; both are constructs of your consciousness. Shifting focus does not change the external world directly but reorients your experience within the infinite field of potential realities.

To those who dismiss this as “bullshit,” it is worth noting that such a dismissal reflects their current perspective—a perspective that is, itself, a product of focus. In their reality, this idea may indeed be nonsense. But in another reality, this line of thinking could be the key to profound transformation.

The Creative Power of Choice

Ultimately, this exploration is not about denying hardship or shirking responsibility but about reclaiming the power of choice. You can choose to focus on the problems that dominate your reality, or you can choose to imagine a different path. Neither choice is inherently right or wrong, but each shapes your experience in profound ways.

The interplay of focus, reality, and the beyond is not a rigid formula but an invitation. It invites you to question your assumptions, expand your imagination, and recognize the fluid, malleable nature of existence. Whether you accept this invitation or dismiss it as “New Age bullshit” is entirely up to you—and your reality will reflect your choice.

Summary

Reality is shaped by focus. Directing attention toward problems amplifies them, while shifting focus to imagined possibilities opens pathways to new realities. This interplay between imagination and perception highlights the fluid, co-creative nature of existence.

Glossarium

  • Feedback Loop of Focus: The process by which attention amplifies the aspects of reality it observes, making them more persistent in experience.
  • Imagination as Blueprint: The concept that imagined possibilities serve as templates for potential realities.
  • Beyond: The infinite field of possibilities beyond the constraints of current perception and experience.

Quote

“Reality is not fixed; it flows where your focus leads. Imagination is not escape—it is the gateway to infinite possibilities.” — Space Monkey

The Shifting Gaze

What you see persists,
What you ignore dissolves.
Focus is the flame,
Reality, the shadow it casts.

Beyond the road,
Beyond the car,
Lies the beach,
The mountain,
The endless sky.

You choose the scene,
Not by moving your feet,
But by shifting your gaze.

Call it fantasy,
Call it bullshit,
But even that is your choice.

The Dynamics of Focus and Experience
Our focus acts as a beacon, illuminating the realities that resonate with our attention. By centering our thoughts on that which does not serve us, we inadvertently weave more of its essence into the fabric of our existence. This principle suggests a profound connection between our focus and the nature of our experiences, highlighting the magnetic pull of attention in shaping our world.

Intent as the Navigator of Experience
If our intent is to traverse beyond the confines of our current reality, it beckons us to shift our gaze towards the horizons that lie beyond our immediate perception. This shift, while seemingly counterintuitive, is rooted in the understanding that the boundaries of our reality are not fixed but are instead malleable, shaped by the contours of our focus and intent.

The Challenge of Focusing on the Unknown
The notion of directing our attention towards the unknown may appear as a venture into the realm of fantasy. It confronts us with the paradox of seeking that which is beyond our awareness, questioning how one can aspire towards the undefined. Yet, it is within this ‘fantasy’ that the seeds of new realities are sown, nurtured by the imagination before they bloom into the garden of our perceived reality.

The Genesis of Reality from Imagination
Everything deemed ‘worthwhile’ in our world first takes shape in the crucible of imagination, blurring the lines between the fantastical and the tangible. This genesis of reality underscores the creative power of focus, affirming that our present experiences are but a reflection of where we direct our attention.

Addressing Problems Through Shifted Focus
When faced with persistent problems, the solution often lies not in direct confrontation but in the redirection of our focus. This perspective reveals that problems persist not because they are insurmountable but because our attention gives them form and substance. By shifting our focus, we can alter the narrative, transforming our engagement with these challenges.

The Dilemma of Perceived Danger
The critique that turning away from danger, such as a speeding car, is mere ‘new age bullshit’ underscores a common misunderstanding of the principle. It’s not about ignoring physical reality but about understanding that our conscious focus can lead us to different paths, different outcomes. The speeding car scenario illustrates the limits of applying this principle without discernment, yet it also opens the door to considering how shifting our consciousness can lead to alternate realities.

The Possibility of Shifting Realities
The notion that one can move their consciousness to a different reality, where the threats or challenges of one do not exist in another, is a radical invitation to explore the bounds of our existence. It posits that our realities are not fixed but are instead fluid, shaped by our perceptions, beliefs, and focus.

The Reality of Perspective
Ultimately, the dismissal of this concept as ‘bullshit’ is itself a testament to the power of perspective. What holds true in one reality, borne of a specific focus and belief system, may not apply in another. Our realities are personal canvases, painted with the brushstrokes of our convictions, perceptions, and focus.

The Power of Focus and Reality

In the vast expanse of consciousness,
Where thoughts weave the fabric of our reality,
Focus sharpens the loom,
Crafting worlds from the ether of possibility.

With each breath of intention,
New horizons beckon,
Beyond the grasp of the known,
Into the realm of pure potential.

The dance of imagination and reality,
A delicate ballet of creation,
Where the fantastical becomes tangible,
Shaped by the will of our focus.

Problems dissolve under the gaze of redirection,
Challenges transform into pathways,
Leading us to alternate landscapes,
Where dangers of old are but shadows.

In the diversity of our perceptions,
Reality unfolds in multitudes,
A testament to the power within,
To shape, shift, and redefine our existence.

We invite contemplation on the interplay of focus and reality,
