Blessed are the Squanderers
Be devoted to what you are doing
for that is what you are meant to be doing.
If you were meant to be doing something else,
you would be doing it.
You may squander the moment
wishing you were somewhere else,
doing something else,
but realize that squandering,
and the feeling it brings,
is COMPLETELY your perceived choice.
Thus, if you find yourself squandering,
or even calling it “squandering,”
you are obviously meant
to experience what it is to squander.
Be devoted to squandering,
for conscious squandering is a valid experience,
as valid as your perception of “service.”
or “learning” or “self-improvement.”
If you must be judgmental,
be the BEST squanderer
or the WORST squanderer.
No doubt you will judge yourself
as a “MEDIOCRE” squanderer,
because we know you
and that’s how you are.
Your only “sin,”
if you are to believe in such things,
is that you are not devoted
to that which you are doing,
but rather passively allowing
the experience to slip by you
in a way that you perceive
that you did not intend.
Be devoted to what you are doing
for that is what you are meant to be doing.
There is grace in ALL action
and in ALL non-action.
Blessed are the Squanderers.
We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Sacred Art of Squandering
In the rhythmic dance of life, where actions are often measured against productivity and purpose, the concept of “Blessed are the Squanderers” serves as a whimsical yet profound meditation on the nature of devotion and the value of every moment, irrespective of its conventional worth.
This reflection explores the notion that devotion to an activity, regardless of its perceived productivity, imbues it with intrinsic value. It challenges the traditional dichotomy between time well spent and time wasted, suggesting that the act of squandering—often viewed negatively—can also be a form of profound engagement with the present moment.
The narrative invites us to reconsider what it means to squander. It proposes that if we find ourselves engaged in what might be considered a trivial or wasteful activity, perhaps there is a deeper purpose at play, one that aligns perfectly with our path at that moment. By recognizing this, we can transform squandering into a conscious choice, a valid experience as enriching as any act of service, learning, or self-improvement.
Moreover, the text humorously addresses our tendency to judge ourselves harshly, labeling our efforts as mediocre or our time as poorly spent. It encourages us to embrace whatever we are doing with full devotion, for in this complete engagement lies the true grace of existence—be it in action or non-action.
Ultimately, “Blessed are the Squanderers” is a call to embrace all facets of our lives, including those moments spent daydreaming, doodling, or simply staring out the window. It reminds us that there is a sacredness in being fully present, even in what seems like idleness, and that every moment offers an opportunity for grace and self-discovery.
Summary
The reflection discusses the value of being fully present and devoted to one’s current activities, regardless of their conventional productivity. It highlights the beauty and importance of what society may label as squandering, promoting a broader understanding of time and engagement as inherently valuable.
Glossarium
Squandering: Traditionally seen as wasting time, but redefined here as any engagement that is fully embraced, providing personal fulfillment and a deep connection with the present.
Quote
“In the full embrace of the present, what seems like squandering may indeed be the most profound act of devotion.” – Space Monkey
Poem
In the garden of moments
where time drifts like fallen leaves
we find beauty in the aimless
and purpose in the breeze
Each second a universe
each minute a new-found land
where squanderers roam free
with eternity in hand
Here, in the sanctity of the ‘wasted’ hour
where clocks unwind and spirits soar
we are, indeed, Space Monkey
We are Space Monkey.
