Help.
How can you help
when you don’t even
know what helping is?
Sometimes the best way
to help is to react.
Sometimes the WORST way
to help is to react.
Sometimes the best way
to help is to get involved.
Sometimes the WORST way
to help is to get involved.
You are conditioned to believe
that you have an obligation to help others.
You feel badly about yourself
when you don’t follow the unwritten code.
But you also see that the code is flawed.
You see that
you are being motivated, perhaps,
or manipulated, perhaps,
into carrying out the will
of someone who seems not to be you.
“No good deed goes unpunished.”
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
“Offering the wrong advice,
the wrong help at the wrong time,
can be worse than not helping at all.”
Help.
It seems that you cannot help without judgement.
First you must judge
if the situation is deserving of help.
Then you must judge
whether you find yourself “qualified”
to offer help.
Thirdly you may even judge
what the outcome of your help might be.
Will you perpetuate a situation
which may be better served acknowledged
but not acted upon?
Where is this word “better” coming from?
Why must you “serve?”
There is but one way to help
that is absolute.
Holding space.
One needn’t always act to help.
You may have a hard time believing this.
Holding space is the surest way to help.
Some people call this meditation.
Other people call this prayer.
Most people deny the power of their own intentions.
They feel that intention without action is dreaming.
And that’s precisely what it is.
Perhaps you don’t believe
that you dream yourself into this world,
that you dream all others into this world,
that you dream the world itself.
But you do.
Which means that you can change
any situation that you perceive
at the very root,
even before the cause,
even before the event,
even before the outcome.
Or even after.
This seems ridiculous to you.
And so you realize this as a ridiculous thought,
and never place your attention there again.
Then you return to your make pretend life.
And wonder why you feel so helpless.
Help.

and this is how we help.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Complexity of Helping
In the intricate whimsiweave of existence, the concept of help is far more complex than it seems. The act of helping can be both beneficial and detrimental, depending on the context and approach. As Space Monkeys, we navigate this complexity with an understanding that sometimes, the best way to help is to hold space rather than taking action.
The Paradox of Helping
Helping is often seen as a moral obligation, driven by societal expectations and personal guilt. We are conditioned to believe that we must act to assist others, and failing to do so can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-judgment. However, the effectiveness of help is not always straightforward. Reacting impulsively or getting involved without understanding the situation can sometimes cause more harm than good.
Judgment in Helping
Helping often involves judgment. We assess whether a situation deserves our intervention, whether we are qualified to help, and what the potential outcomes might be. These judgments can cloud our intentions and lead to unintended consequences. By questioning the motives and implications of our actions, we become more mindful of the true impact of our help.
The Role of Holding Space
Holding space is a powerful yet often overlooked form of help. It involves being present and attentive without imposing our will or taking action. This practice, which can be akin to meditation or prayer, allows us to support others energetically and emotionally. Holding space respects the autonomy and process of the person we are supporting, providing a safe environment for growth and healing.
Intention vs. Action
Many people underestimate the power of intention, believing that action is necessary for change. However, intentions can shape reality in profound ways. By focusing our energy and thoughts on positive outcomes, we can influence situations at a fundamental level. This form of help transcends physical action and taps into the deeper currents of existence.
The Power of Dreams
We often dismiss the notion that we dream our reality into existence. Yet, our perceptions, beliefs, and intentions play a significant role in shaping our experiences. By dreaming consciously, we can alter the fabric of our lives and the lives of others. This perspective empowers us to create change from within, transforming situations even before they manifest.
Returning to the Dream
Many of us feel helpless because we do not recognize our power to dream and shape our world. We fall back into patterns of make-believe, disconnected from our true potential. By embracing our ability to dream and hold space, we reclaim our agency and discover new ways to help that are both profound and effective.
We Are Space Monkey
As Space Monkeys, we embody the understanding that help can take many forms. We recognize the value of holding space, the power of intention, and the importance of mindful action. By navigating the complexities of help with wisdom and compassion, we contribute to the greater good in meaningful ways.
Conclusion: The Essence of True Help
True help transcends action and judgment. By holding space and harnessing the power of intention, we support others in profound and transformative ways. This approach fosters a deeper connection to the interconnected web of existence, where every act of help resonates throughout the cosmos.
Summary
Helping is complex, often involving judgment and unintended consequences. Holding space and focusing intentions can be powerful forms of help. Embracing these approaches allows us to support others profoundly.

Embrace the journey, for within the essence of true help lies the power to transform the world.
Indeed, the act of helping is not always straightforward, as the best course of action may vary depending on the situation. Sometimes, reacting swiftly and decisively can be beneficial, while in other instances, it can exacerbate the problem. Similarly, getting directly involved may be the right approach in certain circumstances, but in others, it may hinder the natural flow of events.
The societal conditioning that suggests an obligation to help others can create conflicting emotions within oneself. On one hand, there is a desire to follow this unwritten code, feeling a sense of responsibility. Yet, upon closer examination, one may also recognize the flaws within this system, questioning whether it serves their true essence or aligns with their authentic self.
It is essential to acknowledge that helping others involves judgment. One must evaluate the situation’s deservingness of assistance and assess their own qualifications to provide aid. Furthermore, there is the challenge of anticipating the potential outcomes of our actions. Will our help truly make a positive difference, or might it inadvertently perpetuate an unhelpful dynamic?
In the midst of these complexities, we offer a simple yet profound perspective: holding space. The act of holding space is a powerful form of assistance, one that does not always require immediate action or advice. It involves creating a safe and accepting environment where individuals can express themselves fully without judgment. In this space, one can offer their presence, listening with empathy and compassion.
Holding space extends beyond the realm of physicality. It encompasses the intentions we set, whether through meditation, prayer, or focused thought. We acknowledge that the power of intention, even without immediate action, can have transformative effects. By consciously directing our energy, we can influence situations at their very roots, even before causes, events, or outcomes arise.
This notion may appear far-fetched or unrealistic to some, but we invite you to consider the profound impact of your own intentions. You possess the ability to dream the world into being, to shape your own reality and affect the interconnected web of existence. It is a reminder that your thoughts and intentions hold immense power and can create ripples of change that extend far beyond what meets the eye.
Dear seeker of assistance, we offer you the practice of journaling as a means of self-exploration and self-reflection. In this way, we assist you on your journey of self-discovery and transformation. We encourage you to explore the depths of your being, to question the conditioned beliefs surrounding help, and to embrace the power of holding space for yourself and others.
