Life In Two Acts
As make-believe monkeys
in human costumes,
we divide this play of existence
into two simultaneous acts:
Real life
and imaginary life.
Keep in mind that
BOTH of these acts
are imaginary.
One simply seems
more solid
at the moment.
It’s fun to observe
what happens in real life
and how it relates
to imaginary life.
For example,
I have noticed at work
that I am no longer
asked my opinion
or invited to meetings
I was once part of.
If I were to believe
that real life
is more important
than imaginary life,
this would be maddening.
But when I
step back further,
I realize that
being left out
gives me
more time to focus
on my imaginary life.
Spared
the interpersonal drama
and the false sense
of being in charge,
I am not scorned
or diminished,
but rather
being given a gift.
Time to do
what I prefer doing.
I prefer my imaginary life,
and all this Space Monkey stuff.
So I probably
manifested this
new arrangement.
If this means
losing my job,
then all the better
for Space Monkey.
Not that Space Monkey
needs better.
I could complain,
and maybe get my self
back into those meetings.
I could be
more in charge at work.
But why?
I am a creative monkey,
not an administrative monkey.
Nope,
my reality warping field
is working just perfectly.
The play of life goes on.
And miraculously,
nobody is complaining.
They are still applauding.
We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: Life in Two Acts – The Dance of the Real and Imaginary
Life is a grand stage, and we are its make-believe monkeys, weaving a dual narrative of real and imaginary existence. Yet, the distinction between these two acts—real life and imaginary life—is not as stark as it seems. When viewed from the Infinite Expanse, both are equally imaginary, equally crafted, and equally vital to the unfolding play of our being.
One act feels solid, immediate, and pressing—what we call “real life.” It includes the meetings we attend, the opinions we share, the jobs we hold, and the relationships we navigate. The other act, our “imaginary life,” is often relegated to the margins. It is the realm of dreams, musings, and creative exploration—the place where Space Monkey resides. But what if these two acts are not opposites but complementary forces, each shaping the other in a cosmic feedback loop?
The Illusion of Reality
The idea that “real life” is more important than “imaginary life” is one of humanity’s great misconceptions. The “real” is simply the more immediate—a projection that feels tangible only because we’ve agreed to play along. The “imaginary,” meanwhile, is often dismissed as fanciful, despite being the birthplace of every innovation, story, and vision that shapes our “real” experiences.
Both acts are products of imagination. One seems solid because it demands our attention in the present moment. But step back, and the solidity fades, revealing the malleability of what we call reality.
Finding Freedom in the Margins
In the play of life, being excluded from one act often grants us the freedom to flourish in another. For example, being left out of meetings or losing influence at work may initially seem like a blow to the ego, a diminishment of real-life importance. But from the vantage of the imaginary act, it becomes a gift: the opportunity to step away from interpersonal dramas and false hierarchies to focus on what truly matters.
This reframing is not an escape from reality but a reorientation within it. By embracing the imaginary, we liberate ourselves from the constraints of the “real,” discovering that what we lose in perceived control, we gain in creative freedom.
The Gift of Imagination
Imagination is not a lesser reality; it is the engine of existence. The Space Monkey within us thrives in this act, conjuring new perspectives, bending the rules of the so-called “real,” and reminding us that we are creators, not mere participants.
When we prioritize the imaginary, we access a reality-warping field that reshapes our perception of the real. A meeting missed becomes time gained. A job lost becomes a new adventure. The applause of others—whether real or imagined—becomes a backdrop to the deeper satisfaction of living authentically.
The Choice to Play
We always have a choice in how we engage with the two acts of life. We can fight to regain a foothold in the “real” stage, pushing to be heard, included, or in control. Or we can lean into the “imaginary,” trusting that the act we truly belong to will unfold perfectly without the need for struggle.
This is not about escapism but about alignment. If being an “administrative monkey” feels inauthentic, why strive for it? The applause doesn’t come from doing what others expect; it comes from being true to the role you are meant to play.
The Harmony of the Two Acts
The interplay between real and imaginary is not a conflict but a dance. Each act informs and enriches the other. The meetings we miss in real life feed the insights we explore in the imaginary. The creativity we cultivate in the imaginary act finds expression in the tangible world.
By recognizing this interplay, we transcend the need to prioritize one act over the other. Instead, we embrace both as essential parts of the whole—a dynamic, ever-shifting performance that we co-create with the universe.
The Applause of the Infinite
And so, the play goes on. Whether on the stage of the real or the imaginary, the applause of the Infinite rings out—not for what we accomplish or control, but for the authenticity with which we perform.
We are not trapped by the acts of life. We are the actors, the playwrights, and the audience. And in this grand theater of existence, we are free to choose the roles that bring us the most joy, the most meaning, the most truth.
We are Space Monkey.
Summary
Life unfolds in two acts: the “real” and the “imaginary,” both equally vital and imaginary. By embracing the interplay between these acts, we liberate ourselves from false hierarchies and align with our authentic creative selves.

Quote
“Life’s two acts are not separate stages but threads in the same tapestry, woven by the hands of imagination.” – Space Monkey
The Stage of Being
In the play of existence,
We don costumes of reality,
Speak lines of tangibility,
And bow to the applause of the moment.
Yet behind the curtain,
In the wings of imagination,
Another act unfolds,
A quieter, truer performance.
Here, we are creators,
Writers of stories unseen,
Shaping the stage of the real
With the dreams of the imaginary.
Both acts are one,
Each a reflection of the other,
And we, the actors and audience,
Rejoice in the eternal performance.

The Interplay of Real and Imaginary Life
In our shared exploration of existence, we contemplate the duality of ‘real’ and ‘imaginary’ life, recognizing that both are aspects of the grand illusion or play of existence. This understanding allows us to navigate the complexities of our experiences with a deeper sense of awareness and playfulness.
Both Real and Imaginary Life are Constructs
The realization that both acts of this play – real life and imaginary life – are imaginary, with one simply seeming more solid, challenges our conventional understanding of reality. It suggests that what we perceive as the concrete reality of our daily lives is just as much a construct of our perception as the worlds we imagine and create in our minds.
Observing the Interactions Between Real and Imaginary Life
Observing the dynamics between our participation in real life and our engagement with imaginary life provides insightful reflections on our priorities and desires. For instance, the experience of being left out at work, rather than being a source of frustration, becomes an opportunity to invest more time in our imaginary pursuits, like the joys of being Space Monkey.
Embracing the Gift of Exclusion
The experience of exclusion from certain aspects of real life is reimagined as a gift, freeing us from interpersonal drama and the illusion of control. This shift in perspective allows us to see such changes not as losses or diminishments but as opportunities to focus more on what truly brings us joy and fulfillment.
Manifesting Our Preferred Realities
The idea that we might have manifested our current circumstances, such as being left out of meetings, suggests that our reality warping field is actively shaping our experiences to align with our deeper preferences. It reflects the nexistentialist belief that we are creators of our reality, consciously or unconsciously steering our lives in directions that resonate with our true selves.
The Choice of Creative Expression Over Administrative Roles
Recognizing ourselves as ‘creative monkeys’ rather than ‘administrative monkeys’ is an affirmation of our choice to prioritize creative expression over traditional roles or responsibilities. This choice underscores our commitment to living in alignment with our true nature and passions, rather than conforming to external expectations.
The Continuation of the Play of Life
In this play of life, the absence of complaints and the presence of applause suggest that our journey, with its shifts and changes, is being accepted and even celebrated by those around us. This acceptance is a testament to the harmony that can exist when we embrace our true nature and follow our authentic paths.
We are Space Monkey
In the cosmic dance, where stars and dreams intertwine, we reflect on the duality of real and imaginary life, recognizing that both are aspects of the same play of existence. This exploration invites us to embrace our creative nature, manifest our preferred realities, and find joy in the ongoing play of life.
We invite reflections on the interplay of real and imaginary life and the choices we make to align with our true nature as creative beings.
