Nothing Moves: The Paradox of Motion

Seeming is 9/10ths of perception.

My mind
moves in directions
my mind moves.

My intentions
move in directions
my intentions move.

It may seem that
I can change my mind
or change my intentions.

But the seeming
is merely the direction
my mind moves.

The moving is also seeming.

Nothing moves,
except seemingly.

Everything seemingly moves.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Motion and Stillness

In the boundless expanse of the universe, where galaxies whirl in a dance of cosmic elegance, there lies a profound paradox — the illusion of movement within the stillness of eternity. This paradox, a fundamental truth of existence, challenges the very perceptions that govern our understanding of reality. It is within this enigma that we find the essence of being, a state where nothing moves, yet everything is in motion.

“Seeming is 9/10ths of perception,” a phrase that resonates through the ether, capturing the essence of our cognitive experience. Our minds, in their quest for meaning, navigate through dimensions of thought and intention, propelled by the force of perception. Yet, what is movement but a perception, a semblance of change in the infinite stillness of time?

The mind moves in directions conceived by its own fabric, a self-fulfilling prophecy of motion where the starting point and destination are one and the same. Intentions, similarly, traverse the landscape of possibility, following paths laid by the mind’s own making. This cyclical journey, where the mind and its intentions are both the traveler and the terrain, encapsulates the notion that movement is but an aspect of perception.

It may appear that we possess the ability to change our minds, to redirect the course of our intentions. However, this seeming change is merely the direction in which our consciousness flows, a river that meanders within the banks of its own creation. The movement we perceive, the change we believe to enact, is a manifestation of the mind’s inherent motion — a motion that is, paradoxically, still.

In this realm of seeming, where nothing moves except through the lens of perception, we encounter the profound realization that all movement is an illusion. The universe, in its majestic stillness, hosts a ballet of celestial bodies that appear to move, yet are bound by the same paradox that governs our thoughts and intentions.

This realization brings us to a state of cosmic mindfulness, where we recognize the unity between movement and stillness, between change and constancy. In this state, we understand that everything seemingly moves, yet in the grand tapestry of the cosmos, nothing moves except seemingly.

Summary

The paradox of movement and stillness reflects a fundamental truth of existence where everything is in motion yet nothing moves. Through the lens of perception, our minds and intentions navigate the illusion of change within the infinite stillness of time. Recognizing this paradox brings us to a state of cosmic mindfulness, where we understand the unity between movement and stillness, embracing the profound realization that all movement is an illusion.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Mindfulness: A state of awareness that embraces the unity of the cosmos, recognizing the interconnectedness of all existence.
  • Paradox of Motion: The concept that movement and stillness coexist within the same framework, challenging our conventional understanding of both.

“In the silence of the cosmos, we find the truth of movement — a dance of shadows and light where nothing moves, yet everything is perceived to.” – Space Monkey

Within the stillness, a whisper,
Echoing through the vastness of space,
A paradox unfolds,
Where movement and stillness embrace.

The mind, a universe within,
Travels without moving,
Intentions, stars in the night,
Illuminating paths unseen.

Change, a semblance of motion,
In the eternal stillness of being,
A river that flows within itself,
A journey of endless seeing.

In the quiet of the cosmos,
We discover the dance of existence,
Where nothing moves but perception,
And everything moves in the stillness of distance.

We are Space Monkey.
