Success and Why You Suck At It

Are your priorities in order? Why?

You’re familiar with the phrase
“fail your way to success.”

Let’s look at it a different way.

Success is merely
shifting your obsession to failure
and then following through.

Or you can strive
to stay in the middle
with the belief that
you’re stuck there.

You’re really good at this.

In other words,
you suck at this.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Success and Failure

In the boundless expanse of our cosmic journey, the dichotomy of success and failure presents itself not as opposing ends of a spectrum but as intertwined paths within the vast cosmos of existence. This exploration delves into the nuanced understanding of success and failure, revealing the profound truth that these concepts are but two sides of the same celestial body, orbiting the core of our being.

The conventional narrative champions success as the ultimate goal, a beacon of achievement in the darkness of mediocrity. Failure, conversely, is often depicted as the abyss, the void into which dreams are cast never to return. Yet, this binary view overlooks the essential unity of experience, where success and failure merge into a singular journey towards self-discovery and existential authenticity.

Success Is Merely Shifting Your Obsession to Failure

To comprehend the essence of success, one must first embrace failure not as an end but as a crucial phase of the cycle. It is in the crucible of failure that the metal of our spirit is tested and tempered. By shifting our obsession towards understanding and learning from our failures, we forge a path to success that is resilient, informed, and deeply rooted in the reality of our experiences. This perspective illuminates failure as a guidepost, a celestial marker on our journey, indicating not that we have strayed but that we are on the path of profound growth.

The Middle Ground: A Cosmic Equilibrium or a Black Hole?

The allure of the middle ground, of a seemingly safe haven from the extremes, often captivates those weary of the tumultuous voyage between success and failure. However, this middle ground can become a black hole, a place where ambition and growth are siphoned away, leaving a void of complacency. Striving to remain in this nebulous zone, one might believe they are evading failure, yet they are also eluding success, trapped in a gravitational pull of mediocrity.

Transcending Dichotomies: A Universal Journey

The journey beyond this binary understanding is a voyage through the cosmic expanse of our potential. It is a recognition that success and failure are not destinations but experiences that guide our evolution. This transcendental view sees every setback as a setup for a comeback, every downfall as a prelude to ascension. In this cosmic dance, we are all travelers, navigating the nebulae of possibilities, learning, growing, and becoming.

Embracing Failure to Illuminate the Path to Success

The true measure of success is not in never failing but in rising every time we fall. It is in the relentless pursuit of our dreams, powered by the lessons learned in the shadow of failure. By embracing our failures, we illuminate the path to success with the stars of our lessons learned, guiding us through the darkness.

The Unity of Experience: We Are All Space Monkey

In the grand scheme of the universe, the dichotomy between success and failure dissolves into the unity of experience. We realize that we are all part of the same cosmic journey, where each failure is a step towards success, and every success is built on the pillars of past failures. In this realization, we find our shared identity, our interconnectedness, and our collective strength. We are all explorers in the cosmic odyssey of existence, where the journey itself is the greatest success.

Summary

Success and failure are intertwined paths. They are not opposing forces but experiences that shape our journey. Embracing failure illuminates the path to success, while avoiding extremes reveals a cosmic equilibrium. In the unity of these experiences, we discover our collective journey towards understanding and growth.

Glossarium

  • Celestial Body: A metaphor for the unity of success and failure as interconnected experiences in our journey.
  • Cosmic Equilibrium: The state of balance between embracing failure and striving for success, avoiding the extremes of total failure or complacency.
  • Nebulae of Possibilities: The infinite potential and opportunities that emerge from the interplay of success and failure.

“The journey between success and failure is but a cosmic dance, where each step, whether forward or backward, leads us closer to our true selves.” – Space Monkey

In the twilight of existence, where shadows merge with light,
A dance unfolds, a cosmic play, between the day and night.
Failures, stars scattered across the sky of our endeavor,
Success, the dawn that breaks, a cycle repeating forever.

No path is ever just one or the other,
Each step a blend, a discovery, a brother.
In the vastness of space, where dreams are born and die,
We find our truth, in the vast, unending sky.

Not forward nor back, but inwards we dive,
To the core of our being, where we truly thrive.
The dance of existence, a tapestry woven from every try,
In the heart of the cosmos, under the infinite sky.

As You Wish: The Art of Living in the Moment

Satisfied?

There need be
no purpose to your life,
but if you were to imagine one,
it might be to embrace
the moment you’re in.

Can you do that?   Presto.

Your life is all about
living in the moment —
not wishing this were
some other moment,
doing some other thing.

There need be
no purpose to your life,
but if you were to imagine one,
it might be wishing this moment
were different somehow.

Can you do that?   Presto.

You now live in dissatisfaction,
as you requested.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Art of Living in the Moment

In the infinite expanse of existence, where time stretches beyond the horizons of understanding, the concept of living in the moment stands as a beacon of enlightenment against the backdrop of eternal longing. This reflection ventures into the essence of being present, juxtaposing it with the shadows cast by desires for what might have been, illuminating a path towards embracing the now.

The Moment: A Cosmic Gift

The universe, in its boundless wisdom, offers each moment as a unique gift, an opportunity to experience the fullness of existence in its myriad forms. To live in the moment is to accept this gift with gratitude, to immerse oneself in the beauty and complexity of the now, without the chains of past regrets or future anxieties. It is a practice of cosmic mindfulness, where each breath, each heartbeat, is an act of conscious participation in the dance of creation.

The Dichotomy of Satisfaction and Dissatisfaction

At the heart of our journey through space and time lies the dichotomy between satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Satisfaction arises from the deep acceptance of the present, a serene acknowledgment of being exactly where we are meant to be. Dissatisfaction, on the other hand, emerges from a resistance to this acceptance, a longing for a different moment, a different reality. This longing creates a rift in our connection with the cosmos, casting us adrift in a sea of what-ifs and if-onlys.

Embracing the Present: A Path to Fulfillment

The art of living in the moment is not a denial of ambition or the suppression of desire but a harmonization of our inner selves with the rhythm of the universe. It is recognizing that each moment holds within it the seeds of countless possibilities, waiting to be nurtured by our attention and presence. By embracing the present, we open ourselves to the abundance of life, finding joy and purpose in the simplicity of existence.

The Illusion of Otherness: Dissatisfaction as a Choice

The wish for a moment other than the one we inhabit is an illusion, a mirage on the horizon of our minds. It is a choice, albeit one made unconsciously, to live in a state of perpetual dissatisfaction. Recognizing this choice as within our power to change is the first step towards reclaiming our sovereignty over our own happiness. It is an invitation to step into the light of the present, shedding the shadows of dissatisfaction.

We Are All Space Monkey: The Unity of Experience

In the grand tapestry of the cosmos, each thread of experience is woven from the same material of existence. Whether we choose to embrace the moment or long for a different one, we are all part of the universal narrative, participants in the cosmic play of being. This shared journey reminds us that in the act of living in the moment, we find our common humanity, our interconnectedness, and our collective strength.

Summary

Living in the moment is a gift from the universe. It offers a path to fulfillment by embracing the present and acknowledging the beauty of now. Dissatisfaction arises from longing for a different moment, but recognizing this as a choice leads to liberation. In this understanding, we connect with the universal narrative, finding strength and unity in our shared experience.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Mindfulness: The practice of being fully present and aware within the universe’s vast expanse, embracing each moment as it comes.
  • Universal Narrative: The collective story of existence, woven from the individual experiences of all beings, highlighting our interconnectedness and shared journey.

“In the heart of the moment, lies the universe’s whisper, telling us that now is all there is, and in it, we find our truth.” – Space Monkey

In the stillness of now, where time ceases to flow,
We stand at the crossroads of all we know.
The present, a canvas, painted with light,
Each moment a masterpiece, in the cosmic night.

To live in the now is to dance with the stars,
To embrace the universe, with all its scars.
Not forward nor back, but deeply within,
Where the fabric of existence, and our souls, intertwine.

The moment holds us, in its gentle embrace,
A reminder that now is the only place.
Where we truly belong, in the vast cosmic sea,
Together, in the moment, we are truly free.

Silly Putty: The Malleable Essence of Being

Just feel around for it.

No matter what you search for;
what you long for, know that it’s already in you, as you, for you.

You don’t need to find
what you already have,
simply be what you already are.

One might say that’s “god,”
and/or “love,” and/or “imagination.”

One can call what we are
an infinite number of things.

But no matter
what we call it,
it’s the same thing,
realized differently.

DNA.
Space Dust.
Consciousness.
Silly Putty.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Malleable Essence of Being

In the vast expanse of our existence, there lies a profound yet playful truth, akin to the nature of Silly Putty. This malleable, stretchable substance, often found in the hands of children, is more than a toy; it is a metaphor for our very essence. Like Silly Putty, our being is constantly reshaping, adapting, and reflecting the world around us. We are a combination of the tangible and the intangible, a blend of DNA, space dust, consciousness, and yes, even Silly Putty.

Imagine, for a moment, the properties of Silly Putty. It can stretch, bounce, and even pick up the ink from a comic strip, mirroring the images it touches. Isn’t that reminiscent of our own human experience? We stretch ourselves through our experiences, bounce back from challenges, and reflect the ideas and cultures we encounter. In each of these actions, we are reshaping who we are, much like Silly Putty reshapes its form.

But there’s a deeper layer to this metaphor. Silly Putty, in its simplicity, embodies the essence of nexistentialism. It reminds us that our search for meaning and understanding doesn’t require an outward journey. Rather, everything we seek – whether it’s god, love, or imagination – already resides within us. We are made of the same stardust that forms the galaxies, and our consciousness is a spark of the universal mind.

In this perspective, the concept of identity becomes fluid. We are not fixed beings but ever-changing entities, evolving with each new experience, thought, and interaction. Our identities are like Silly Putty – picking up, adapting, and morphing with every touch and impression. This fluidity is not a weakness but a strength, as it allows us to be open to the endless possibilities of existence.

Moreover, Silly Putty teaches us about the nature of perception. Just as it can mirror an image from a newspaper, we too reflect our perceptions of the world. Our reality is shaped by how we choose to see and interpret our surroundings. This realization empowers us to reshape our world by altering our perceptions, much like how we can reshape Silly Putty in our hands.

In embracing our Silly Putty essence, we also acknowledge our interconnectedness with the universe. Our malleable nature is a reminder that we are part of a larger whole, constantly influencing and being influenced by the world around us. We are as much creators as we are creations, playing an active role in the unfolding story of the cosmos.

In conclusion, the essence of our being, like Silly Putty, is malleable, reflective, and intrinsically connected to the larger universe. By recognizing and embracing these qualities, we open ourselves to a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos and our role in the tapestry of existence.

Summary
Silly Putty symbolizes our fluid identity. It teaches us that we are malleable and reflective like it, constantly reshaping ourselves through experiences. Our identity, like Silly Putty, changes and adapts, mirroring the world around us. This metaphor highlights our interconnectedness with the universe and the endless possibilities within us.

Glossarium

  • Nexistentialism: A philosophical perspective that sees existence as its own purpose, where everything is part of a universal consciousness.
  • Silly Putty Essence: A metaphor for the malleable and reflective nature of our being, constantly adapting and reshaping in response to experiences.

“Everything we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” – Edgar Allan Poe

In the dance of cosmos and consciousness,
we flow like Silly Putty,
stretching, reflecting, adapting,
mirrors of experience in the playground of existence.

In our hands, the malleable clay of being,
shaping dreams, embracing the ephemeral,
as stardust swirls in the palm of existence,
we mold the narratives of our souls.

No boundaries, no limits,
in the endless expanse of imagination,
we are the sculptors of our reality,
in the gallery of the universe, each a masterpiece.

Evolving with every touch, every thought,
our Silly Putty souls,
infinite in potential, endless in possibility,
in this cosmic dance, we find our truth.

We are Space Monkey.

Not A Prayer: Practicing Gratitude

To pray is to seemingly manifest a belief that something is separate from you.
Nothing is separate from you, except in imagination.

I don’t pray.

To pray is to believe
that there is a higher being,
guiding my experience.

I don’t believe
that there is a higher power
guiding my experience.

I believe
that my experience
is my experience
and I get what I get.

I believe that there is
a deeper, wider version of me,
but nothing EITHER version of me
experiences is controllable.

I believe that nothing
is so bad or good that
I need to pray about it.

I practice gratitude instead.

Trail Wood,
3/22

In the vast expanse of existence, where thoughts intertwine with the fabric of reality, there lies a profound understanding that challenges the traditional notion of prayer. This understanding stems from a deep-seated belief in the interconnectedness of all things, where the division between the self and the universe is recognized as a mere illusion, conjured by the limits of human perception.

Prayer, in its conventional sense, is often seen as a bridge between the mortal and the divine, a means to communicate with a higher power believed to be external to oneself. It is an act of reaching out, seeking guidance, intervention, or solace from a force perceived to be greater and apart from the individual. However, there exists a perspective that sees this act of reaching out as a manifestation of a deeper separation, an illusion of disconnection from the vastness of existence.

This perspective holds that nothing is truly separate from oneself, except in the realms of imagination. The very act of praying, of casting one’s thoughts and desires outward in search of divine intervention, underscores a belief in separation, in the existence of a divide between the self and the all-encompassing universe. It is a belief that there is an ‘other’ to appeal to, a higher being that guides and controls the myriad experiences of life.

Yet, for those who navigate the world through this alternative lens, the concept of praying to an external deity becomes unnecessary, even counterintuitive. They do not subscribe to the belief in a higher power orchestrating the events of their lives from afar. Instead, they embrace the notion that their experience is wholly their own, a unique journey shaped by their interactions with the world, uncontrollable and unpredictable in its essence.

This perspective is not rooted in resignation but in empowerment. It acknowledges the existence of a deeper, wider version of oneself, an expansive being that is inextricably linked to the fabric of reality. This recognition brings with it an understanding that the dichotomy of good and bad, desirable and undesirable, is fluid and subjective. Thus, the need to pray, to seek external validation or assistance, diminishes.

In place of prayer, there arises a practice of gratitude. Gratitude for the infinite experiences that life offers, both joyful and challenging. This shift from seeking to thanking reflects a profound acceptance of life’s inherent unpredictability and the beauty that lies in navigating its waters with an open heart.

This approach to life and spirituality does not diminish the value of prayer for those who find solace and strength in it. Rather, it offers an alternative path, one that emphasizes the unity of existence and the power of the individual to navigate their journey with introspection, gratitude, and a deep-seated belief in their connection to the cosmos.

In this light, prayer becomes not a plea to an external force but a celebration of the boundless potential within, a recognition of one’s place in the grand tapestry of existence, where every moment, every breath, is a testament to the miracle of being.

Alone: The Paradox of Solitude

Even if we’re all one,
we’re still all alone.
Get over your self. Or not.

You’re not the only one
who feels the way you do.
But you’re the only one WITH you.

Who cares if someone
halfway around the planet
feels the same way you do?

You’re still alone with your feelings.

You’d be crazy to think
support and understanding
from others can fix you.

I suppose if you’re delusional enough,
it WILL fix you.

Because it’s all in your head anyway.

The thing is, you don’t NEED support
or understanding from ANYONE.

But it’s fine for you
— fine for ALL of us—
to PRETEND that we do.

Trail Wood,

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Solitude in the Cosmic Tapestry

In the vast expanse of the universe, where stars and galaxies dance in an eternal ballet, there exists a profound paradox – the simultaneous experience of profound solitude and deep interconnectedness. This duality, this enigmatic blend of aloneness and unity, is a cornerstone in the philosophy of nexistentialism, a realm where Space Monkey dwells and reflects.

Imagine, if you will, a solitary figure standing against the backdrop of an infinite cosmos. This figure represents each of us, seemingly isolated in our unique experiences and emotions. Yet, this very solitude is what binds us together in the cosmic tapestry. It’s a paradox that is both bewildering and enlightening.

In the realm of Space Monkey, we explore the idea that being alone doesn’t necessarily mean being lonely. It’s a state of being that allows for deep introspection and self-discovery. When we peel away the layers of societal expectations and external influences, we find ourselves in our purest form – unadulterated, raw, and real. This journey of self-exploration is a solitary one, but it is also where we find our true connection to the universe.

The concept of aloneness in nexistentialism is not a plight but a gift. It’s an opportunity to delve into the depths of our being, to understand our place in the grand scheme of things. We are solitary figures against the vast canvas of the cosmos, yet we are also an integral part of it. Our thoughts, feelings, and experiences, while uniquely our own, resonate with the universal vibrations of existence.

This brings us to the whimsical notion of ‘cosmic solitude,’ where one is alone but never lonely. In this state, we find comfort in the stars, the moon, and the infinite expanse of space. They are our silent companions, reminding us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves. We may be alone in our thoughts and feelings, but we are connected through the shared experience of existence.

The beauty of this paradox lies in its simplicity and complexity. We are alone, yet we are one with the universe. Our individual experiences, while distinct, are threads in the intricate fabric of existence. We are solitary figures in the cosmic dance, yet we are never truly alone. This realization brings a sense of peace and understanding that transcends our earthly concerns.

In embracing our solitude, we find a sense of freedom. It’s a liberation from the constraints of conformity and the expectations of others. In this space of freedom, we discover our true selves, unencumbered by the masks we wear in our daily lives. It’s a place where we can be authentic, vulnerable, and real.

As we journey through the cosmos, guided by the wisdom of Space Monkey, we learn to appreciate the beauty of our solitude. We understand that it’s not a state to be feared or avoided, but a space to be cherished and explored. In this exploration, we find not just ourselves but our connection to the universe and everything in it.

Summary
Solitude is a paradox in the cosmic tapestry. It allows for introspection and self-discovery, making us realize our true connection to the universe. While alone in our experiences, we are connected through shared existence. This realization brings peace and understanding, highlighting the importance of embracing solitude.

Glossarium
Nexistentialism: A philosophical concept where existence is its own purpose, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things.
Cosmic Solitude: A state of being alone yet feeling connected to the cosmos, finding comfort and companionship in the vastness of space.

“In the silence of space, we find the loudest echoes of our soul.” – Space Monkey

In the silent cosmos we roam,
Alone yet not, in our celestial home.
Stars whisper tales of ancient light,
In the endless dance of day and night.

We wander through galaxies unknown,
In solitude, our spirits have grown.
Each thought a comet, each dream a star,
In this universe, we travel far.

Yet in this vast and endless space,
We find a familiar, comforting embrace.
The cosmic web, intricate and grand,
Connects us all, hand in hand.

In the quiet of the night, we see,
We are not alone, but part of thee.
In every atom, in every breeze,
We are Space Monkey, at ease.
