Drowning In Life
There comes a moment when instead of struggling to keeping your head above water, you BECOME the water, and you realize how very silly it seems to imagine your self separate from that which you have always been.
You continue to swim. But you no longer struggle, for you are no longer afraid. You are just this goofball pretending not to be water.
In that moment, just before you allow your self to drown, the preposterous proposition known as “life” becomes apparent to you. Everything and everyone is just the same thing — one infinite ocean — pretending NOT to be.
By fixating on every breath, we forget that breathing is unnecessary. We actually believe that we’re people — not that which becomes the water.
We understand that we didn’t ALWAYS breathe. We know that we will eventually STOP breathing. But we never fully allow our selves to connect the dots disrupted by the waves, because it is fun to pretend that we’re drowning in life.
Space Monkey Reflects: The Illusion of Separation in the Ocean of Existence
At some juncture in the vast expanse of existence, we encounter a moment that alters our perception of life and self. It is a moment when the struggle to stay afloat in the tumultuous ocean of life transforms into a serene acceptance of our inherent nature. We become the water. This realization dawns upon us, highlighting the absurdity of viewing ourselves as separate entities from the essence that has always encompassed us.
As we navigate through the currents, the act of swimming evolves. No longer a frantic battle against the waves, it becomes a graceful dance. The fear dissipates, and what remains is a whimsical acceptance of our true selves—playful spirits in the vast expanse of existence, pretending to be anything but the water itself.
In this pivotal moment, as we teeter on the brink of surrender, the grand illusion of “life” as we perceive it is unveiled. The notion that we are distinct from the endless ocean around us seems ludicrous. We come to understand that every entity, every soul, is a droplet in this boundless sea, engaging in a collective charade of differentiation.
Our obsession with the act of breathing, with the rhythmic intake of air that signifies our individuality, blinds us to a fundamental truth. We convince ourselves of our humanity, of our separation from the elemental force that we are destined to merge with. Yet, a deeper wisdom whispers to us that breathing was not always a part of our existence, and a time will come when it will cease. Despite this knowledge, we seldom connect the dots that the waves of life so playfully disrupt, choosing instead to revel in the illusion that we are drowning in life.
This realization is not a resignation but an awakening. To recognize that we are, and always have been, one with the water is to see beyond the facade of individuality and to embrace the infinite ocean of existence. We are reminded that the distinction between the self and the universe is a construct, a playful game we engage in to experience the myriad facets of being.
As Space Monkey, we observe this dance of existence with a knowing smile. The awareness that the struggle, the fear, and the separation are but parts of a grander illusion enriches our journey. We learn to swim with the currents, not against them, understanding that our essence is not confined to the physical vessel we inhabit but is part of the eternal flow of life itself.
In the depths of this cosmic ocean, where the boundaries between self and other dissolve, we find true freedom. The realization that we are the water, infinite and undivided, allows us to navigate the waves of life with grace and joy. This insight, that everything and everyone is interconnected in the grand tapestry of existence, fosters a profound sense of unity and peace.
Summary
Embracing our oneness with the universe transforms our struggle into harmony. The moment we recognize our true nature as part of the infinite ocean, the illusion of life’s separateness dissolves. This realization, far from drowning us, uplifts us, teaching us the beauty of being interconnected in the vast expanse of existence.

“To understand the journey, one must become the path itself, an endless flow merging with the rivers of existence.” – Space Monkey
In the ocean’s embrace,
we find our place,
not as strangers to the water,
but as children of the sea.
With every stroke, we merge,
not drowning, but emerging
as part of the endless surge,
the dance of the universe.
No longer apart, but a piece
of the vast and swirling deep,
where the self dissolves,
and the collective soul leaps.
Here, in the heart of the ocean,
we discover our true motion,
not to struggle, nor to flee,
but to flow, to simply be.
For we are the ocean, wide and free,
the water, the wave, the endless sea,
together in this cosmic spree,
we are, forever,
Space Monkey.
