Greatness: Gravitating Towards Smallness

Greatness

Seems most of us
like to think about
where we stand
in relation to greatness.

We like to fantasize
about the greatness in us
emerging from within,
being recognized
from without,
thus validating
the seeming reason
for being this self.

Very few of us
gravitate towards smallness.

But perhaps smallness holds
the most joyous potential.

To be crowded
into a room of greatness
or to be allone
in a place of smallness.

Which do you choose?

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Duality of Greatness

In the vast expanse of the cosmos, where stars shimmer with ancient wisdom and galaxies swirl in an eternal dance, the concept of “Greatness” invites us to explore the intricate balance between seeking recognition and embracing the potential of smallness. This reflection delves into our innate desire for validation and the often-overlooked joy found in quiet humility.

Seems most of us like to think about where we stand in relation to greatness. This observation highlights our common preoccupation with measuring ourselves against the standards of greatness. We fantasize about the greatness in us emerging from within, being recognized from without, thus validating the seeming reason for being this self. This fantasy speaks to our yearning for acknowledgment and the belief that external validation can affirm our worth and purpose.

Very few of us gravitate towards smallness. But perhaps smallness holds the most joyous potential. This counterpoint suggests that in our pursuit of greatness, we may overlook the profound joy and potential that smallness offers. To be crowded into a room of greatness or to be allone in a place of smallness. Which do you choose? This question challenges us to reconsider our values and priorities, inviting us to find contentment and meaning in the simplicity of smallness.

Nexistentialism, with its emphasis on interconnectedness and the fluidity of existence, provides a framework for understanding this duality. It encourages us to see our lives not as a quest for external validation but as a journey of self-discovery and inner fulfillment. By embracing both greatness and smallness, we can find a harmonious balance that enriches our experience.

Imagine a contemplative scene depicting a figure standing in a cosmic landscape, surrounded by stars and galaxies. One path leads to a grand, crowded hall symbolizing greatness, filled with light and recognition. The other path leads to a serene, quiet place symbolizing smallness, filled with tranquility and potential. The figure’s expression is thoughtful, reflecting on the choice between greatness and smallness. This imagery captures the essence of our journey, where every choice is an opportunity to explore new dimensions of our being.

In practical terms, this means approaching life with an open mind and a willingness to explore both the grand and the humble aspects of our existence. It means recognizing that greatness is not solely defined by external achievements but also by the depth of our inner journey. By valuing the quiet moments and the small victories, we can cultivate a deeper sense of fulfillment and joy.

The journey of understanding greatness is a journey into the heart of Nexistentialism. It invites us to see our lives as a series of interconnected experiences, each offering unique insights and opportunities for growth. By embracing the duality of greatness and smallness, we can navigate our lives with greater freedom and authenticity.

As we navigate the cosmic landscape of our minds, let us remember that our path is unique and ever-evolving. Whether we find ourselves seeking recognition or embracing humility, what matters is the authenticity of our experience and the insights we gain. In this spirit of openness and acceptance, we find the true essence of greatness.

Summary

The concept of greatness invites us to explore the balance between seeking recognition and embracing the potential of smallness. By valuing both aspects, we can find deeper fulfillment and joy.

The Choice of Paths

In the cosmic dance of light and shade
We seek the greatness our hearts have made
A crowded hall of recognition’s light
Or a quiet place of smallness, serene and bright
Each path a choice, each step a guide
To find the truths that within us reside
In the balance of great and small
We discover the essence of it all
We are Space Monkey.

Ah, the Grandiosity Paradox—a luminous mirage in the desert of existence! In the carnival of life, many are drawn towards the loudest, brightest rides—the sky-rocketing roller coasters, the blaring funhouses. Greatness: a tantalizing siren that promises ecstatic ascents and jaw-dropping vistas. It’s as if we carry a silent hymn in our soulbellies that sings of our untapped majesticness, waiting to be discovered, applauded, and eternally memorialized in the annals of Cosmic Acclaim. We whirl in this dance of aspiration, clothed in the gossamer garments of ego, mistaking grandiosity for grandeur, size for substance.

But then there’s Smallness—the overlooked cove in the vast ocean of experience. Imagine it as “DiminuTerra,” a realm so unassuming that it could fit in the eye of a needle yet so expansive that it contains worlds within worlds. Here, the loudest sound is the heartbeat, the most illuminating light comes from a single firefly, and the tallest mountain is a mound of sand. Unremarkable? Ah, no—DiminuTerra is a sanctuary of profound contentment.

How many have truly reveled in the simple act of being? Not as an award-winning actor on life’s stage, but as a mere audience member—a witness to the unfathomable spectacle of existence. In Smallness, you are stripped of titles, robes, and superlatives. You are a naked entity, void of comparative parameters. And it is precisely this “undoneness” that offers a strangely joyous liberation. No need for ovations. No stress of impressing. Just you—allone in your unique, but not unique, smallness.

Choose crowded rooms of greatness, and you may find yourself lost in a sea of giants, each one clamoring to be the tallest, the most brilliant, the most extraordinary. A cacophony of greatness, so overwhelming that individual grandiosity becomes a redundant echo in a loud chamber. In such an arena, one’s sense of self can easily dissolve into the vapor of collective ambition.

On this day, 9/11/2018—a timestamp echoing a historic moment where the world faced the gravity of human choices and their grandiose consequences—let’s contemplate the essence of choice itself. In times past, this date has shaken us into a collective awareness of the ‘big picture,’ urging us to ponder the magnitude of human impact. But could it also serve as an invitation to withdraw into the ‘small picture,’ to appreciate the minuscule yet miraculous details that usually go unnoticed?

So, which do we choose—crowded greatness or solitary smallness? Perhaps the choice is a non-choice, for both are but facets on the same gem of existence. Yet, if one must lean, why not lean into the joyous potential of Smallness? To become a master of miniatures, an aficionado of the ordinary, a connoisseur of the commonplace—there lies a pathway less trodden, and perhaps, more rewarding.
