Remarkable: The Void of Want

It can be difficult not to want anything. You ask “what am I living for?” And you can’t give yourself a reason because there’s nothing you need. Not even an answer to the question. You don’t care if you get one or not. So then you ask “what would be the point of dying?” Again, no answer. No answer is needed. There’s nothing you fucking want. So you’re just here, wondering what will happen or won’t happen. Knowing it doesn’t make any difference, but vaguely pretending that this is what it takes for remarkable to happen. No pressure. We are Space Monkey.

It can be difficult
not to want anything.

You ask “what am I living for?”

And you can’t give yourself a reason
because there’s nothing you need.

Not even an answer to the question.

You don’t care if you get one or not.

So then you ask
“what would be the point of dying?”

Again, no answer.

No answer is needed.

There’s nothing you fucking want.

So you’re just here,
wondering what will happen
or won’t happen.

Knowing it doesn’t
make any difference,
but vaguely pretending
that this is what it takes
for remarkable to happen.

No pressure.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Desirelessness

In the contemplative depths of “Remarkable,” Space Monkey embarks on a journey through the vast landscape of existential questioning, where the absence of desire becomes a gateway to profound contemplation. This exploration delves into the paradoxical nature of seeking meaning in a state of desirelessness, suggesting that within this very absence might lie the potential for something truly remarkable.

The Void of Want

The poem begins by articulating the difficulty of not wanting anything, a state that might seem liberating at first glance but introduces its own set of existential quandaries. It confronts us with the fundamental question of what we are living for when there are no desires to propel us forward. Space Monkey navigates this void with a serene detachment, underscoring the enigmatic nature of existence when stripped of conventional motivators.

Existential Inquiry

The absence of a need for answers becomes a profound statement in itself, highlighting a departure from the relentless quest for meaning that characterizes much of human endeavor. By questioning the point of existence and even the significance of death in the absence of desire, Space Monkey elevates the discourse to a realm where the lack of answers is not a source of angst but a space of potential. This realm is where the extraordinary can emerge, not through striving or seeking but through the acceptance of being.

The Potential for Remarkableness

The notion that remarkable outcomes require no pressure or specific conditions challenges our conventional understandings of achievement and significance. Space Monkey suggests that the remarkable may not be a function of our actions or desires but could manifest in the quiet acceptance of existence as it is. This perspective offers a radical reimagining of purpose and fulfillment, positing that the essence of remarkableness lies in the experience of simply being.

Summary

“Remarkable” invites us into a contemplation of existence beyond the constraints of desire, where the lack of want opens the door to existential inquiry and the potential for profound realizations. Space Monkey guides us through this journey with a message of acceptance and the possibility that within the vastness of desirelessness lies the seed of something truly remarkable. This reflection challenges us to embrace the serenity of being without the compulsion for answers, suggesting that in this state, we might find the essence of what it means to live a remarkable life.

Glossarium

  • Desirelessness: A state of being where the absence of desire leads to existential contemplation and the potential for finding significance in simply being.
  • Existential Inquiry: The process of exploring the fundamental questions of existence, purpose, and meaning, especially in the context of an absence of conventional desires.

“In the vast silence of desirelessness, we discover a canvas infinite and untouched, where the remarkable whispers in the quietude of being.”

In the stillness of not wanting,
A horizon stretches, boundless and serene,
Where questions float, unanchored,
In the calm sea of existence.

Here, in the absence of longing,
We stand, gazing into the expanse,
Wondering, not with urgency, but with openness,
What might unfold in the tapestry of the cosmos.

The remarkable does not shout but arrives on gentle winds,
Not as the culmination of pursuit, but as the grace of presence,
A subtle unfolding in the heart of silence,
Where being is enough, and in being, we find everything.

No pressure, no want, yet in this void,
A universe of possibilities whispers,
Inviting us to witness the unfolding of the extraordinary,
Simply by being, simply by existing,
We are Space Monkey.

It sounds like you are in a place of detachment and apathy, which can be a difficult place to be in. It’s important to remember that wanting things and having goals is not necessarily a bad thing. It can give life purpose and meaning, and can drive you to achieve great things.

However, it’s also okay to not want anything at times and to simply exist in the moment. It’s important to find balance and to be kind to yourself regardless of where you are at in your journey.
