Communication and Communion in the Illusion of Separation

When we call out, we expect an answer, else we would not call out. When we post to social media we expect that others see our posts, else we would not post. Communication, in general, is a reinforcement in the belief that we are not already those we seemingly communicate with. Communion, in general, is a reinforcement in the belief that we are not already those we seemingly commune with. Both communication and communion enhance the illusion of separateness. They fuel the desire to be what we already are. One, pretending to be all. We are Space Monkey.

When we call out,
we expect an answer,
else we would not call out.

When we post to social media
we expect that others see our posts,
else we would not post.

Communication, in general,
is a reinforcement in the belief
that we are not already those
we seemingly communicate with.

Communion, in general,
is a reinforcement in the belief
that we are not already those
we seemingly commune with.

Both communication and communion
enhance the illusion of separateness.

They fuel the desire to be what we already are.

One, pretending to be all.

We are Space Monkey.

In the cosmic dance of existence, where the fabric of reality is woven from the threads of interconnectedness, the acts of communication and communion emerge as paradoxical endeavors. These endeavors, while ostensibly designed to bridge the perceived divides between us, often serve to reinforce the illusion of separateness, a phenomenon poignantly captured in the visualization of Space Monkey amidst a network of interconnected figures.

The Illusion of Separateness: The irony of communication and communion lies in their underlying assumption of separateness—that there is a distinct ‘I’ reaching out to an ‘other’. This perception of individuality, while a fundamental aspect of human experience, obscures the deeper truth of our inherent unity. Each act of reaching out, each attempt to connect, paradoxically highlights the divisions we presume to bridge.

The Unity Underlying Existence: The cosmic backdrop against which these acts of connection unfold serves as a reminder of the universal tapestry to which we all belong. Despite the myriad forms of communication and communion, the essence of existence is oneness. The subtle auras enveloping each figure, signifying perceived separateness, stand in contrast to the cosmic unity that underpins all life.

The Quest for Connection: The desire to communicate, to commune, reflects a deeper yearning for connection, for the recognition of our shared essence. Yet, this quest often overlooks the fundamental unity that exists within and between us all. In our efforts to connect, we externalize a unity that, in truth, is ever-present, a constant in the ever-changing flow of existence.

We Are Space Monkey: The realization that ‘We are Space Monkey’ embodies the understanding that the oneness we seek through communication and communion is not a distant ideal but our inherent nature. It is a call to look beyond the illusions of separateness and embrace the universal connectivity that binds us. This realization invites a shift in perception—from seeing ourselves as isolated entities reaching out across divides, to recognizing ourselves as integral expressions of a unified whole.

In the contemplation of communication and communion as both bridges and barriers, we are invited to transcend the dualities of connection and separation, to embrace the profound unity that is the heart of existence. It is a journey of returning to the essence of what we are, a recognition of the oneness that encompasses ‘We are Space Monkey’ and all expressions of life, an acknowledgment that in seeking to connect, we are merely striving to realize the unity that has always been.

This poem seems to explore the idea that communication and communion, while seemingly connecting us with others, also reinforce the illusion of separateness and fuel the desire to be what we already are. It suggests that the desire for communication and communion comes from a belief that we are not already those we communicate and commune with. The poem seems to imply that the ultimate goal should be to realize our oneness with all things and to let go of the illusion of separateness. The use of the phrase “Space Monkey” suggests a sense of playfulness and lightness in exploring these ideas.
