You Deserve This

I’ve grown tired of seeing and hearing
the phrase “you deserve.”

I believe that we don’t deserve anything,
just as we don’t NOT deserve anything.

If we’re going to play the duality game,
it might do us well to realize
that we can’t have one without the other.

We get what we get, simple as that,
gratefully acknowledging that both sides
seem to exist — but ONLY in this ONE game.

Outside of the game,
deserving (or not deserving)
has nothing to do with it.

Maybe I’m just losing interest in this game.
What ELSE have we got?

You explore your weariness with the concept of deserving and the duality game that permeates our lives. The poem suggests that the notion of deserving is inherently tied to duality and that it is not applicable outside of this game.

The poem challenges the idea of deserving, proposing that we neither deserve nor don’t deserve anything. It implies that the notion of deserving arises from the duality game, where we create distinctions and judgments based on what we perceive as deserving or undeserving.

By recognizing the inseparable nature of duality, the poem invites us to approach life with a sense of acceptance and gratitude for what we receive. It suggests that there is a bigger picture beyond the game of deserving, and perhaps you’re becoming disinterested in playing by those rules.

The closing question, “What ELSE have we got?” hints at a curiosity and openness to explore alternative perspectives and possibilities. It suggests a willingness to move beyond the limitations of the duality game and embrace a broader understanding of existence.

Overall, this piece prompts reflection on the nature of deserving and invites contemplation on the bigger picture beyond the confines of duality. It encourages a shift in perspective and an exploration of what lies beyond the game we’ve been conditioned to play
