A Momentary Checklist: Contemplating Our Presence and Peace in the Now

Ask yourself this moment:

“Do I LIKE what I am doing
in this moment?”

“Do I NEED to like
what I am doing in this moment?”

“Is this moment enough?”

“Is reflecting on how I feel
about this moment HELPING
my enjoyment of this moment
or HURTING it?

“Do I NEED to help or hurt
myself in this moment?”

“Do I need to ENJOY this moment?”

“Do I NEED to create
a moment other than this?”

“Do I NEED to create a LIFE other than this?”

“Can I sense the profound
peace, love and joy
within me every moment of my life
REGARDLESS of what I am doing
or how I am feeling?”

Yes, I can. But DO I?

The Art of Momentary Reflection: Navigating the Now

Contemplating Our Presence and Peace in Each Moment

The practice of asking ourselves a series of introspective questions about our current state of being opens a gateway to deeper understanding and appreciation of the present moment. This exploration delves into the power of momentary reflection and its impact on our experience of life.

The Inquiry of Enjoyment

Asking whether we like what we are doing in the moment invites us to engage actively with our current activities. It’s a prompt to assess not just the task at hand but our attitude towards it, highlighting the potential gap between action and fulfillment.

The Necessity of Liking

The question of needing to like what we do probes deeper into our expectations of constant enjoyment, challenging the notion that every moment must be pleasurable to be valuable. It opens the door to accepting and finding meaning in the mundane or challenging.

The Sufficiency of the Moment

Inquiring if this moment is enough encourages a shift from constant yearning to a state of contentment. It’s a reminder that peace often lies not in the changing of circumstances but in the acceptance and appreciation of the now.

The Influence of Reflection

Reflecting on our feelings about the moment and its effect on our enjoyment reveals the dual-edged sword of introspection. It begs the consideration of whether our analysis enhances or detracts from the experience, leading to a deeper understanding of the role of mindfulness.

The Creation of Alternate Realities

Pondering the need to create different moments or lives prompts a confrontation with our desires for change versus acceptance. It’s a powerful meditation on our capacity for transformation and the acceptance of our current path.

Finding Inner Peace

The ultimate question of sensing and maintaining peace, love, and joy within us regardless of external circumstances points to the essence of spiritual and emotional resilience. It challenges us to find and nurture an inner well of contentment, transcending the immediate environment and emotional state.

Summary

The momentary checklist serves as a tool for deepening our connection to the present and ourselves. It encourages a mindful engagement with life, prompting us to seek peace within the complexity of our experiences. By navigating these questions, we learn not just to exist but to live fully, embracing each moment with awareness and grace.

“Peace begins with a smile.” – Mother Teresa

in the stillness of the now, a query,
where thoughts like leaves, flutter, weary,
each question a step, on a path so clear,
towards the heart’s peace, ever near,

in this moment, a world entire,
held in the gaze of an inner fire,
where joy and love, in quiet reside,
and in every breath, they coincide,

here, in the pause between two beats,
in the silence where the soul greets,
a truth profound, a serene tide,
where peace and self, in love, abide
