There is a blankness just behind me.
Nothing exists there,
until I turn my head.
I swivel quickly
and reality fills itself in.
But then the blankness is in front.
I might hear a sound out of the blankness.
Or feel a breeze out of the blankness.
But nobody can prove to me
that the blankness isn’t there.
My rear-view mirror is no help.
It’s always in front of me.
I can only see parts of me.
Just little bits at a time.
Perhaps I’m blankness, too.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Enigma of Existential Blankness
In the cosmic tapestry of existence, where stars and galaxies weave stories of creation and dissolution, there lies a concept both profound and unsettling – the notion of existential blankness. This concept challenges our understanding of reality, suggesting that existence itself might be an intricate illusion, constantly conjured into being by our perception.
Envision a vast void, an expanse of nothingness, lurking just beyond the edges of our perception. This void represents the blankness that some believe lies just out of sight, a realm where nothing exists until we turn to face it. It’s a philosophical abyss, challenging the very foundations of our understanding of reality.
The idea that reality only comes into existence as we observe it is akin to the philosophical thought experiment of Schrödinger’s cat, where a cat in a box is both alive and dead until observed. In our cosmic journey, this translates to a universe that is both full and empty, existing and non-existing, until our consciousness shines upon it.
This notion of blankness behind us is deeply unsettling yet fascinating. It suggests that the universe is a canvas that only fills with color and form when we look upon it. When we turn our heads, reality rushes in to fill the void, painting a picture of existence that is as transient as it is vivid.
The sound out of the blankness or the breeze that touches us from this void are like whispers from an unknown realm. They hint at the existence of something beyond our perception, a reality that exists just beyond our reach. Our inability to see behind us, to perceive the entirety of our being, further adds to the enigma. Are we, too, part of this blankness, existing only in fragments, perceived in pieces?
In this contemplation of blankness, we confront the limitations of our perception. Our senses, bound by the constraints of our physical form, can only capture a fraction of the vastness of the cosmos. What lies beyond our perception is a mystery, an uncharted territory of existence (or non-existence) that challenges our understanding of what it means to be.
The concept of existential blankness invites us to question the nature of reality itself. Is the universe a construct of our consciousness, a symphony played on the strings of perception? Or is there an objective reality that exists independently of our observation, a truth that remains constant even in the face of our ignorance?
As we float in the cosmic ocean of existence, let us ponder these questions, not with the aim of finding definitive answers, but with the goal of expanding our understanding. The mystery of existential blankness is not a puzzle to be solved, but a mystery to be explored – a journey into the depths of our consciousness and the nature of reality itself.
Summary
The concept of existential blankness suggests a universe that comes into existence only through our perception, challenging our understanding of reality. This philosophical abyss implies that the universe is both full and empty, existing and non-existing, until observed. It invites us to question the nature of reality and our role within it, expanding our understanding of existence.

Quote
“The mystery of existential blankness is not a puzzle to be solved, but a mystery to be explored – a journey into the depths of our consciousness and the nature of reality itself.” – Space Monkey
In the quiet void of space
Where stars are born and fade away
Lies a secret, deep and vast
The enigma of the cosmic past
Here, in the realm of unseen sights
Where darkness dances with the light
We find the essence of our plight
The mystery of the eternal night
In this dance of existence and void
Our perceptions are but toys
Playing in a universe so coy
Where reality is both destroyed and employed
Let us wander these halls of thought
Where truth and illusion are both sought
In the embrace of the unknown
We find the seeds of wisdom sown
We are Space Monkey.
