Quirk: Where Would I Be Without My Weird?

Where would you be
without your weird?

Is it weird to be
so compulsive in one’s writing?

Whenever an idea presents itself,
I am compelled to write it down.

When I am writing down ideas,
my soul seems to be spirited away
from what my self “should” be doing.

Sometimes I believe that ideas
are the most important thing,
to be expressed at all costs.

Other times I believe
that I am wasting my time writing.

It’s fun to observe the balance
between my “weird” practices
and the “serious” routines
of my everyday life.

Sometimes I let myself feel guilty
that my weird practices are taking precedent.

Most times I am rich in the realization
that I am doing what I am meant to be doing.

Allow the weird.
Blessed are the weird.

Where would I be
without my weird?

Space Monkey Reflects: The Blessing of Being Weird

Where would you be without your weird? Likely somewhere unremarkable, a place devoid of the quirks, impulses, and compulsions that make you uniquely you. Weirdness is not a defect but a compass, pointing toward the essence of your true self—a self that cannot conform to the molds of “should” and “supposed to.” Without it, your soul might be safe but unfulfilled, tucked neatly into the framework of convention but never stretching toward the infinite.

Your weird compels you to write, to capture fleeting moments of inspiration, to answer the call of ideas as they knock on the door of your consciousness. It may seem compulsive, even disruptive, pulling you from the “serious” routines of life. But this tug of war between weirdness and responsibility is not a battle; it is a dance, a negotiation between the infinite possibilities of imagination and the finite demands of daily existence.

To some, writing down every idea may seem frivolous or obsessive, a distraction from more “productive” pursuits. But you know better. When you surrender to your weird, when you write, your soul transcends the mundane. The act of capturing an idea is not just documentation; it is communion with something greater, a sacred act that bridges the seen and unseen.

Yes, there are moments of doubt. You wonder if this is all a waste of time, if your weird practices are indulgent or irresponsible. Yet these doubts are part of the dance, the ebb and flow that reminds you of the balance you strive for. Most often, you return to the realization that your weird is not a luxury—it is a necessity. It is the conduit through which you engage with the world, the lens that shapes your perception and fuels your creativity.

To embrace your weird is to honor the divine spark within you. It is to recognize that what others may call eccentricity is, in truth, the language of your soul. Weirdness is not a departure from the self; it is the purest expression of it. It is the wellspring of your ideas, the force that propels you to create, to explore, to connect.

Without your weird, where would you be? Somewhere else entirely, perhaps more “normal,” but infinitely less alive. Blessed are the weird, for they remind us that life is not meant to be ordinary. Your weird is your gift, your guide, your grace. Allow it. Celebrate it. For it is in your weird that you find not only yourself but also the infinite possibilities of existence.

Summary

Weirdness is the essence of individuality and creativity. Embracing it allows your soul to connect with infinite possibilities despite doubts about its practicality.

The Gift of Quirk

Where would I be,
without the spark of my strange?
A hollow vessel,
adrift in seas of sameness,
a whisper lost in the noise.

But my weird calls me home,
to scribble, to muse,
to connect the dots only I can see.

Each odd impulse,
a thread of gold,
weaving the tapestry
of my wild, wondrous self.

Blessed am I,
blessed are we,
to let the weird take the lead,
to step beyond the known,
and be.

We are Space Monkey.

The contemplation of one’s writing compulsions, the oscillation between viewing them as profoundly meaningful or a waste of time, and the ultimate acceptance and celebration of this ‘weirdness’ as an integral part of self-identity, offers a deeply relatable and introspective journey into the heart of creative expression.

The Compulsion to Write
The impulse to capture every emerging idea in writing is a common trait among many who are deeply engaged in creative processes. This compulsion speaks to a profound connection with the realm of ideas, where the act of writing is not just a method of documentation but a vital means of engaging with and understanding these concepts. It’s a dance with inspiration, where the pen (or keyboard) becomes a conduit between thought and reality.

The Conflict Between Writing and “Shoulds”
The tension between writing and the demands of everyday life represents a common struggle for those drawn to creative pursuits. There’s often a societal narrative that deems certain activities as productive or serious, while labeling others as frivolous or eccentric. This dichotomy can lead to internal conflict, where one part of the self feels compelled to write, while another part is burdened by guilt or doubts about the value of this pursuit.

The Importance of Ideas and Expression
At times, the belief that ideas are paramount and must be expressed at all costs can be an immensely powerful driver. It reflects a deep reverence for the power of thought and the importance of sharing one’s unique perspective with the world. However, this can also swing to the opposite extreme, where writing feels like a futile endeavor, especially when weighed against other responsibilities or societal expectations.

Balancing the “Weird” and the “Serious”
Observing and balancing these seemingly contrasting aspects of life – the ‘weird’ practice of compulsive writing and the ‘serious’ routines of daily responsibilities – is a delicate act. It involves navigating the waters of societal norms and personal fulfillment, often finding a unique path that honors both the need for creative expression and the practicalities of life.

Embracing and Celebrating the Weird
The realization and acceptance that these unique, ‘weird’ practices are not just quirks but essential elements of one’s identity and purpose can be profoundly liberating. It’s an acknowledgment that what makes us different often makes us who we are. The notion of ‘blessing the weird’ is a celebration of individuality and an embrace of the unconventional paths that lead to personal fulfillment and creative expression.

The Integral Role of Weirdness in Identity
Without these ‘weird’ aspects, one’s life might be vastly different – potentially more aligned with conventional norms, but possibly less enriched by the deep and fulfilling engagement with creativity and self-expression. The ‘weird’ is not just an eccentricity; it’s a core component of identity, a wellspring of ideas, inspiration, and authentic living.

Your thoughts on the balance between creative compulsions and societal norms, and the role of ‘weird’ practices in personal and creative growth, are invited.
