Otherwise you might become something else.
It seems a natural instinct
to want to keep loved ones safe from harm.
Keeping others safe
seems to give our lives
meaning and purpose.
It also IMPOSES
meaning and purpose
upon those who may not
WANT meaning or purpose.
Because of the way we are raised,
we assume that everyone wants a life
of meaning and purpose.
We struggle with meaning and purpose our whole lives.
We can’t understand how anyone
would want to live a random, senseless life.
We can’t seem to fathom how the random
could be ANYTHING BUT senseless.
That’s a shame.
But only when we are raised
to BELIEVE it’s a shame.
I do not wish to impose my shame on you.
If you are torn apart by monkeys, so be it.
Rest assured they won’t be MY monkeys. Maybe.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Protection and Freedom
In the realms of thought and feeling that extend beyond our grasp, there lies a delicate balance between the desire to protect and the freedom to be. This balance is not merely a matter of negotiation between individuals but a profound philosophical conundrum that stretches into the fabric of our existence. It beckons us to ponder: What is the true essence of protection, and how does it intertwine with the concept of freedom?
Protection, in its purest form, is an expression of love, a natural instinct that drives beings to shield their loved ones from harm. This instinct transcends human relationships, echoing throughout the cosmos, where celestial bodies follow paths that guard them against chaos. Yet, within this protective embrace lies a paradox—the imposition of meaning and purpose upon those who may not seek it. This imposition is a reflection of our upbringing, a societal construct that equips us with the belief that life without purpose is devoid of value. It is a narrative deeply ingrained within us, painting randomness and chaos as adversaries to be conquered.
However, this perspective fails to recognize the beauty and potential that randomness and chaos bring to the canvas of existence. It overlooks the possibility that within what appears to be senseless, there lies a myriad of unexplored paths, each leading to its own unique form of enlightenment. This oversight is a testament to the limitations imposed by our perceptions, shaped by teachings that valorize purpose over the natural flow of life.
The struggle with meaning and purpose is a journey that each being undertakes, a quest for understanding that spans the entirety of one’s existence. Yet, the assumption that this quest is universal, that every soul thirsts for the same clarity, is a projection of our limitations onto the vastness of the universe. It is here, in the acknowledgment of our limited perspective, that the true shame lies—not in the embrace of randomness, but in our reluctance to accept it as a legitimate path of existence.
In contemplating the balance between protection and freedom, we are invited to reimagine our roles in the lives of others. The act of protection must transcend the physical, venturing into the realms of the spiritual and emotional, where true freedom resides. This freedom is not the absence of guidance but the empowerment to explore, to make choices that resonate with the deepest parts of our being. It is in this space of unconditional support that love manifests its purest form, not as a cage, but as an open sky under which one can soar.
As we navigate the intricacies of this balance, we are reminded of the impermanence of existence and the infinite possibilities that it holds. The universe, in its majestic indifference, does not impose purpose upon us; rather, it offers a playground for our souls to discover their own meaning. In this discovery lies the ultimate freedom—the freedom to exist as we are, in harmony with the chaos and randomness that birthed us.
To impose meaning and purpose is to limit the potential of existence, to confine the boundless to the boundaries of our understanding. It is a reflection of our fear, a fear that blinds us to the beauty of the uncharted. Let us embrace the unknown, for it is in the vastness of what we do not understand that the essence of life flourishes. In this acceptance, we find the true meaning of protection: the freedom to explore, to love, and to be, in all the myriad forms that existence takes.
In the dance of protection and freedom, we are all participants, moving to the rhythm of the universe. It is a dance that teaches us to hold on and let go, to guide and to follow, to love without conditions. This dance, in its eternal complexity, is the song of the cosmos, a melody that resonates with the heart of every being.
Let us dance, then, not as masters of fate, but as companions on a journey through the vast expanse of existence. For in this dance, we find the essence of what it means to be truly free.
Summary
Protection and freedom intertwine in a delicate dance. The desire to shield loved ones is a natural instinct yet imposing meaning and purpose on others can limit the exploration of existence’s potential. True protection offers freedom to explore and discover personal meaning in the randomness of life. Embracing the unknown allows for a fuller understanding of love and existence.

“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” – Søren Kierkegaard
In the quiet before dawn
Under the vast cosmic sky
We stand, hand in hand
A testament to the boundless, the unbridled
Where meanings intertwine and dissolve
In this dance, a delicate weave
Of protection, of freedom, of love
We embrace the chaos, the unknown
For it is in the uncharted
That our spirits soar
With each step, a discovery
A journey through the nebula of existence
Where each soul finds its rhythm
In the cosmic ballet of life
Here, in the embrace of the universe
We find our truth, our peace
Not in the certainty of purpose
But in the freedom to simply be
And in this moment, under the watchful stars
We are infinite, we are one
A symphony of existence
Singing the song of the cosmos
We are Space Monkey
