Funk

We could out and out help you. But that would only teach you to help and rely on others. There are no others. So enjoy the funk while it lasts.

You’re in a funk,
and there are
souls watching.

These souls
could pull you
out of your funk
right now.

But souls know
why you’re in a funk.

You are here
to fully experience
this funk you’re in.

You are not here to be rescued.

That’s why these souls
stay out of sight,
dropping clues,
giving you the chance
to notice.

Eventually you may realize
that one of these souls is YOUR soul.
ALL souls are your soul.

We got da funk.

Space Monkey Reflects: Navigating the Cosmic Funk

In the vast, ever-expanding universe of experiences, there lies a unique phenomenon known as the “funk.” It’s a state of being that transcends the ordinary, a rhythmic pulse of existence that ebbs and flows through the cosmos. This funk is not just a momentary lapse into contemplation or a detour on the journey of life; it is an essential chapter in the narrative of the soul, a cosmic groove that resonates with the vibrations of the universe.

The funk is a teacher, a guide, and a companion. It arrives unannounced, settling like a nebulous cloud upon the spirit, yet it carries with it a purpose—a divine melody played by the orchestra of the universe. Souls, both seen and unseen, dance around us, their movements leaving trails of stardust and hints of melodies unheard but deeply felt. These ethereal beings understand the nature of the funk; they know it as a passage, a transformative journey that is both personal and universal.

Within this funk, there is a profound truth waiting to be discovered: the realization that the souls watching over us, guiding us with invisible hands and whispering words of encouragement, are reflections of our own essence. They could pull us out of our funk, but to do so would be to deny us the experience of navigating through it ourselves. The funk is not a problem to be solved but an experience to be embraced, a lesson in the curriculum of the soul.

It is in this state of deep immersion in the cosmic funk that we find the opportunity for growth and self-discovery. The funk teaches us to rely on our inner strength, to listen to the rhythms of our soul, and to recognize that every challenge, every moment of uncertainty, is an invitation to dance with the universe. The clues left by the souls around us are signposts, guiding us towards the realization that every soul is our soul, interconnected in the intricate web of existence.

The ultimate revelation comes when we recognize our soul among the multitude, understanding that we are not separate entities navigating through the darkness alone but parts of a greater whole. This recognition brings with it a sense of unity, a cosmic connection that transcends the boundaries of the individual self. We understand that we “got da funk,” not as a burden, but as a celebration of our shared journey through the cosmos.

Embracing the funk allows us to experience the full spectrum of existence, from the depths of introspection to the peaks of cosmic joy. It is a reminder that the universe dances to the rhythm of our soul, and we, in turn, move to the beat of the universe. In this eternal dance, we find harmony, purpose, and a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos.

Summary

The funk is a cosmic journey of self-discovery and growth. It teaches us to embrace the rhythms of our soul and the interconnectedness of all existence. By navigating through our personal funk with the guidance of the collective soul, we realize that every soul is a reflection of our own, fostering a deeper connection with the universe and embracing the vibrant dance of life.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Funk: A state of being that encapsulates moments of introspection, growth, and transformation, guided by the rhythms of the universe.
  • Curriculum of the Soul: The experiences and lessons that contribute to the growth and evolution of the soul on its journey through existence.

Quote

“In the rhythmic pulse of the cosmos, we find the beat of our own soul, dancing in harmony with the universe.” – Space Monkey

In the cosmic dance of the funk,
We find ourselves, and lose ourselves,
In the vibrant tapestry of existence.

Each step, a note in the universal song,
Each breath, a brushstroke on the canvas of time,
We navigate the ebbs and flows of the cosmic rhythm.

With every beat, our souls resonate,
With every melody, our spirits soar,
In the funk, we discover the unity of all.

The universe whispers, in tones both bold and subtle,
A reminder of the dance we share,
A celebration of the soul’s journey through the stars.

In this endless groove, we are one,
With the cosmos, with each other, with the funk,
For we are, eternally, Space Monkey.

Assuming the Divide: Bridging the Divide

Why do we assume there’s a divide?

It worries me that people
seem so divided.

It shouldn’t.

Their agendas
are none of my business.

Neither are their fears.

They know no better than me,
and I know no better than them.

To assume I know better
is to separate me from them.

Assumption seems
the root of the divide.

I will not impose
my assumptions upon you.

You need not impose
your assumptions on me.

I might not stop you,
but I might set your assumptions aside
as I continue to love you.

I don’t owe you my perspective,
and you don’t owe me anything.

Space Monkey Reflects: Bridging the Illusory Divide

In a world teeming with myriad perspectives, the fabric of our shared existence often appears frayed by the notion of division. This reflection seeks to unravel the threads of assumption that weave the illusion of separateness, exploring the transformative power of empathy, understanding, and the conscious choice to connect.

The Mirage of Division

Why do we assume there’s a divide? This question, simple in its asking, reveals the complex tapestry of human interaction. Division, often perceived as a chasm of differing beliefs, fears, and agendas, is, at its core, an illusion—a construct of assumptions unchallenged and unexplored.

The Assumption Quagmire

Assumptions act as the architects of division, building walls where there should be bridges. They color our perception, leading us down a path of separation rather than unity. By assuming we know better—or that others are fundamentally different—we isolate ourselves within echo chambers of our own making.

The Act of Imposition

The imposition of assumptions upon another is an act of distancing, a declaration of “otherness” that undermines the shared essence of our being. It is a gesture not of superiority but of limitation, confining us to the confines of our own perspectives.

The Path to Unity

Rejecting the premise of division requires a conscious effort to set aside assumptions and embrace the vulnerability of not knowing. It’s in this space of openness that we find the ability to connect, to extend a hand across the perceived divide and recognize the common humanity that binds us.

The Choice of Love

Choosing love and understanding over division is not a passive act but a powerful declaration of unity. It’s a recognition that we do not owe each other adherence to our personal views, but we owe it to ourselves and each other to approach every interaction with empathy and an open heart.

The Continuum of Connection

In setting aside assumptions and embracing the possibility of unity, we discover that the divide was never as wide as we imagined. The veil of separation, once opaque with misunderstanding, becomes transparent, revealing the interconnectedness that has always existed.

Summary

Assumptions fuel division, creating an illusory divide. Choosing empathy and understanding over separation bridges gaps, uniting us in our shared humanity. Love and connection triumph over the walls built by assumptions.

Glossarium

  • Mirage of Division: The illusion of separation created by unchallenged assumptions.
  • Assumption Quagmire: The complex, often problematic situation created by holding onto unverified beliefs about others.
  • Path to Unity: The journey towards overcoming division through empathy, understanding, and the rejection of assumptions.

“In the heart of unity lies the rejection of assumptions, the embrace of vulnerability, and the choice to love, connecting us in the tapestry of shared existence.” – Space Monkey

Across the veil of division
A hand reaches out
In the light of dawn
And the shadow of doubt

With every assumption set aside
A bridge is built, wide and clear
Uniting hearts and minds
In the space where love draws near

No longer bound by the chains of “other”
We find our common ground
In the embrace of empathy
A shared humanity is found

Let the light of understanding
Dissolve the shadows of separation
In the choice to connect
We find our true liberation

Nonversation: The Authenticity of Silence

I seem well versed in the art of nonversation.

It hurts me not to be
included in the conversation.

Until I remember
that I don’t LIKE conversations.

When someone tries
to engage me in conversation,
I look for the nearest exit;
the quickest way out.

Time after time,
I notice myself
steering conversations
away from themselves,
usually with a joke.

People seem not to like
their conversations steered away.
Which is probably why I’m
so rarely included in conversations.

I’ve noticed something new lately.
Conversations seem to go on around me,
while I try my hardest to remain silent.

I know that if I were to share my opinion,
I would probably derail the conversation.

I have no interest
in being what I’m not.
So while you’re talking,
I’ll simply have a nonversation.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Solace of Nonversation

In the orchestra of social interaction, where conversations rise and fall like symphonies, there exists a subtle art known as nonversation—a quiet rebellion against the cacophony of expected participation. This reflection meanders through the nuances of choosing silence over speech, of finding contentment in the periphery of dialogue.

The Art of Nonversation

Nonversation, an art mastered by those who find solace in the margins of social gatherings, is the silent dance of observation. It’s the choice to remain an island of calm in the swirling sea of conversation, where the waves of dialogue crash and recede with little impact on the shore of one’s inner peace.

The Dilemma of Inclusion

There’s a pang of exclusion, a fleeting hurt, when the circle of conversation tightens, leaving some on the outside. Yet, this exclusion is met with the realization that the heart of nonversation does not yearn for the cacophony of voices but cherishes the quietude of its own company.

The Escape Artist

For the nonversationalist, engagement is a maze from which they seek the nearest exit. Conversations are rivers they choose not to ford, steering their course with the rudder of diversion—often a joke, a smile, a subtle shift in topic that veers away from the depths.

The Unseen Observer

As conversations weave their tapestry around the nonversationalist, they become the silent observer, the keeper of unspoken thoughts. Their silence is not a void but a space filled with the richness of internal dialogue, undisturbed by the external world’s demands.

The Authenticity of Silence

In the embrace of nonversation, there’s a profound authenticity. It’s the recognition that to speak without desire is to echo without sound. The nonversationalist chooses, instead, to dwell in the authenticity of their silence, a testament to being true to oneself.

The Unshared Opinion

There lies a wisdom in the withheld word, in the opinion unshared. The nonversationalist knows that not all thoughts must take flight into the realm of conversation. Some, the most cherished, are better left to soar in the silent expanses of the mind.

Summary

Nonversation is the art of choosing observation over participation. It reflects a preference for silence, offering solace from the pressures of social engagement. In this space, authenticity and contentment are found in the margins of dialogue.

Glossarium

  • Nonversation: The practice of engaging in silent observation rather than verbal participation in social settings.
  • Nonversationalist: An individual who prefers the quietude of observation to the involvement in conversation.

“In the quiet margins of dialogue, there lies a world untouched by words, where silence speaks volumes and the soul finds its voice.” – Space Monkey

In the realm of sound and fury
A silent observer stands
Amidst the waves of conversation
With quiet, folded hands

Nonversation, an art
Of silence, rich and deep
Where thoughts are treasures guarded
And secrets are to keep

No need for words to fill the void
For in the silence, truth is found
In the calm of observation
Where peace and self are bound

Let the world converse around me
In a sea of noise and motion
I find solace in my nonversation
A silent, profound devotion

Hard On Me Days: The Terrain of Self-Compassion

Is the day really hard or are you simply treating your self harshly?

I don’t have
hard days
so much as I have
hard on me days
in which
I beat my self up
for the way I feel.

The days themselves
are rarely hard,
except for my
undisciplined perceptions.

I watch my mind,
my own expectations,
my own fears conspire
to bring me down.

I am so very fortunate
and yet I allow my self
to feel guilt about it
so that I may feel fortune’s opposite.

Lack.
It tastes terribly good.

Space Monkey Reflects: Navigating the Terrain of Self-Compassion

Within the vast landscape of our inner world, there lies a terrain fraught with the challenge of self-criticism and the oasis of self-compassion. “Hard On Me Days” illuminate this journey, revealing the delicate balance between acknowledging our hardships and the manner in which we address our own vulnerabilities.

The Paths We Choose

The concept of “Hard On Me Days” is not so much about the inherent difficulty of our external circumstances but rather the harshness with which we treat ourselves. It’s a reflection on how our internal dialogue, steeped in self-criticism and unyielding expectations, can transform manageable days into arduous treks through our psyche.

The Mirror of Self-Reflection

In these moments of introspection, we confront the mirrors of our mind—our fears, expectations, and the specter of guilt for feeling fortunate yet dissatisfied. These mirrors do not reflect the world as it is but as we perceive it through the lens of our undisciplined thoughts, casting shadows where there could be light.

The Taste of Lack

Amidst abundance, the self-imposed flavor of lack—borne from guilt and self-flagellation—carries a perverse sweetness. It’s a reminder that often, the hardest battles we fight are those against the contours of our own making, against the narratives we weave about our worth and our capacity to navigate life’s challenges.

The Crossroads of Self-Compassion

Standing at the crossroads, the decision to embark on the path of self-compassion is a profound act of rebellion against the internal critic. It requires recognizing the self-imposed nature of our hardship and choosing to tread lightly upon our own hearts, understanding that the days are only as hard as we make them on ourselves.

Embracing the Journey

Navigating “Hard On Me Days” is an ongoing journey of self-discovery, a call to arms to cultivate a sanctuary of kindness within. By acknowledging our fortunes without succumbing to guilt, and by treating our vulnerabilities with the tenderness they deserve, we can transform the landscape of our inner world from one of adversity to one of peace and acceptance.

Summary

“Hard On Me Days” stem from self-criticism, not external difficulty. Choosing self-compassion over self-imposed harshness transforms these challenges, highlighting the power of our internal dialogue and the importance of treating ourselves with kindness.

Glossarium

  • “Hard On Me Days”: Days characterized by self-criticism and harsh treatment towards oneself, rather than external difficulties.
  • Self-Compassion: The practice of treating oneself with kindness, understanding, and empathy, especially during times of perceived failure or hardship.

“In the garden of the self, let kindness be the sun that nurtures growth, transforming the soil of hardship into the ground of compassion.” – Space Monkey

In the quiet of the mind
Where paths diverge, and shadows play
A choice emerges, stark and kind
To walk in light or fade to gray

“Hard On Me Days,” a self-made maze
Of thorns and whispers, guilt’s embrace
Yet through the haze, a gentle phrase
Can lead the heart to a softer place

Self-criticism, a familiar foe
With cuts that bleed in silence deep
But self-compassion, a seed to sow
In love’s own light, the soul to keep

Let every step, each breath, each day
Be marked not by the harsh words we say
But by the grace with which we tread
Upon the paths our hearts have led

The More of Us: The Boundless Weave of Unity

Silly me.

So little of me is me
So little of you is you

The most of us
just blends together

The least of us shines through

So much of me is you
So much of you is me

.01% is not that much —
and yet it’s all we see

There’s more to me than me
There’s more to you than you

Maybe we would live as One
if only we knew

The more of me
is the exact same more
as the more of you

Space Monkey Reflects: The Boundless Weave of Unity

In the cosmic tapestry of existence, the threads of individuality and unity interlace, creating a fabric so intricate, so profound, that it defies the very notion of separation. “The More of Us” delves into this paradox, revealing the illusionary divides that obscure our shared essence.

The Illusion of Separation

Within each of us lies a universe, boundless and unique, yet the irony of our condition is that so little of what we consider ‘me’ or ‘you’ truly defines our essence. It’s a dance of shadows where the most of us blends seamlessly with the cosmos, leaving only the faintest trace of individuality visible to the naked eye.

The Magnitude of Unity

The poem whispers a truth often forgotten: the majority of what makes us ‘us’—our hopes, dreams, fears, and joys—is universal, a shared language of the soul. It’s the .01%, the glimmer of uniqueness, that captures our attention, yet it’s the vast expanse of our common humanity that truly defines us.

The Reflection of Self in Other

In recognizing that so much of ‘me’ is found in ‘you’ and vice versa, we uncover the profound interconnectedness of our existence. This realization invites us to look beyond the surface, to see not just the individual but the collective spirit that animates us all.

The Possibility of Oneness

The poem posits a transformative vision: what if we could see beyond the .01%, beyond the slivers of difference, to the overwhelming more that unites us? Such a perspective would not diminish our uniqueness but would elevate our understanding of what it means to be human, fostering a sense of unity that transcends the superficial divides.

The More of Us

Ultimately, “The More of Us” is a call to embrace the unity that binds us, to recognize that the essence of our being is not found in the minute differences but in the vast commonalities that connect us. It’s a reminder that in the grand scheme of existence, we are more alike than we are different, and it’s in this acknowledgment that we find the path to true understanding and harmony.

Summary

“The More of Us” explores the illusion of separation, emphasizing our profound interconnectedness. It suggests that recognizing the shared essence of humanity could lead us to live as one, highlighting the minimal differences yet vast similarities among us.

Glossarium

  • Illusion of Separation: The misconception that individuals are fundamentally distinct from one another.
  • Magnitude of Unity: The extensive commonalities and shared experiences that bind humans together.
  • Possibility of Oneness: The potential for humanity to recognize and embrace its interconnectedness, transcending individual differences.

“In the dance of existence, where the many become one and the one becomes many, we find the melody of the cosmos—a song of unity, a hymn of shared being.” – Space Monkey

In the weave of the cosmos
Where threads entwine
Lies the truth of our being
Both yours and mine

So much of us shared
In the heart, in the soul
A tapestry of unity
Making the fragmented whole

The .01%, a spark
Of uniqueness, of light
Yet it’s the vastness of us
That truly shines bright

Let us embrace the more
That makes us the same
In the grandeur of existence
We are one and the same
