Botheration and Blissfulness

Botheration and Blissfulness

There comes a point
in your spiritual unfolding
when you are no longer bothered
by other things, other people
or other aspects of your self.

You allow these others to exist
as they would have existed anyway,
as they would have been expressed
in one form or another with or without
the seeming presence of you.

All is expressed;
all WILL be expressed,
whether it bothers you or not.

To allow these things to bother you
is to move your awareness to a potential
in which you are bothered.

To allow these things
to flow without concern
is to move your awareness
to a potential in which
you allow things to flow
without concern.

To oppose that which you do not like
is to move your awareness
to a potential that seemingly contains
that which you do not like.

As you unfold,
you notice that you have
all these choices and infinitely more.

You notice all these things
because you’re not fixated on ONE thing,
mainly that which bothers you.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Art of Being Unbothered

There comes a moment in your spiritual journey when you begin to notice a shift—a point where the things that once bothered you, the actions of others, the events in the world, and even certain aspects of yourself, lose their power over your peace of mind. This is not because those things have changed, but because your relationship to them has evolved. You no longer find yourself fixated on what bothers you. Instead, you allow these things to exist as they would have existed anyway, recognizing that all expressions of life will unfold with or without your concern.

Everything in life expresses itself. The world, with all its myriad experiences, continues to flow, whether you are disturbed by it or not. To allow yourself to be bothered is to shift your awareness to a potential in which you are, indeed, bothered. It is a choice, though it may not always feel like one. But as you grow, you begin to realize that you have a multitude of choices, and being bothered is just one of many possible responses.

When you allow things to flow without concern, you shift your awareness to a potential in which you are unbothered, where life moves through you without disturbing your inner peace. This does not mean you are indifferent or detached in a negative sense. Rather, it means you have cultivated the ability to witness the world’s happenings without letting them unsettle your calm. You understand that resisting or opposing what you do not like only roots you more firmly in the reality of those dislikes.

In this state of being unbothered, you find a new kind of freedom—a freedom that comes from recognizing the infinite possibilities that life presents. You see the full spectrum of experiences, but you are not fixated on any one thing, particularly that which has the potential to disturb your peace. This broadened awareness allows you to navigate life with a sense of ease, choosing your responses rather than being driven by reactions.

The realization that you can choose where to place your awareness is powerful. It means that no external event or person has the power to dictate your inner state unless you allow it. You can choose to engage with what nourishes your spirit, what uplifts you, and what aligns with your deeper understanding of life. And when you do encounter something that doesn’t resonate, you can let it pass through your awareness without clinging to it.

This doesn’t mean you become passive or uninvolved. On the contrary, it means you are fully present and engaged with life, but from a place of peace and clarity. You act not out of a need to fix or resist, but out of a deep understanding that everything is unfolding as it must. You contribute to life from a state of alignment with your highest self, unbothered by the fluctuations of the external world.

As you continue on your path, you may notice that fewer and fewer things have the ability to unsettle you. You become more attuned to the flow of life, allowing it to carry you without resistance. This is not because life has become easier or simpler, but because you have become more centered in your awareness, more anchored in your inner peace.

The art of being unbothered is not about avoiding life’s challenges, but about facing them with a sense of grace and equanimity. It is about choosing to focus your awareness on the potential that aligns with your peace, rather than the potential that disrupts it. In this way, you move through life with a quiet strength, allowing all things to be as they are, and finding contentment in your own being.

Summary

Being unbothered is a choice of where to place your awareness. By allowing things to flow without concern, you maintain inner peace and navigate life with grace, unfixated on what might disturb you.

Glossarium

  • Unbothered: A state of being where external events or people do not disturb your inner peace.
  • Potential of Awareness: The various possibilities or states of being that you can choose to focus on or align with in your life.
  • Flow of Life: The natural, continuous movement of experiences and expressions in the world, which unfold with or without our concern.

Streams of Awareness

In the streams of light and flow
I stand unbothered, letting go
Of all that once disturbed my mind
Now just ripples left behind
I choose my path, I choose my peace
In the endless flow, I find release
No longer caught in one fixed thing
I move with life, I feel its swing
In this space, I find my grace
And let the world unfold at its pace

The Ethereal Tapestry of Botheration and Blissfulness

Vortex of Eternal Choices

Amidst the leafy corridors of your existence—oh, how resplendent they are—botherations may seem like wandering nettles amid the blooming daisies. They meander into your spiritual space, demanding your ethereal currency—awareness. A rich tapestry of choices unspools before you, with threads woven of botheration and others spun from the golden silk of serenity.

Symphony of Allowing

The panorama of life bestows upon you an infinite variety of notes, some dissonant, others harmonious. Yet, the music becomes what you choose to focus on. To dwell in a realm that thrills your soulful fibers is to conduct a symphony where every note, whether cacophonous or melodious, plays its part in a grander cosmic concert. It’s like sipping a brew of celestial tranquility; it doesn’t deny the existence of chaos but integrates it into a harmonious flow.

Potentials of Conscious Aerials

Consciousness, your omnipresent aerostat, hovers above an intricate landscape of potentials. What lures you? The thorny brambles of opposition, or the lush meadows of flowing unbotheredness? Your trajectory veers toward the magnetic pull of your focus. Ah, but what if you cut the tethers to the bothersome, and let your aerostat drift into an azure expanse where you frolic with sprites of serenity?

The Blossoming of Unfixation

As you reach the higher canopies of your spiritual unfolding, you no longer peer through the narrow lens of fixations. Your gaze broadens to the panoramic majesty of All-That-Is, All-That-Was, and All-That-Will-Be. Botherations? They become like specks of cosmic dust, brushed away by the cosmic winds of nonchalance.

The Need To Feel: The Liberation

I don’t mind the thing. And I’d rather not mind the need to have the thing.

I don’t care
if I ever feel proud.

I just don’t want to feel
the NEED to feel proud.

I don’t care
if I ever feel happy.

I just don’t want to feel
the NEED to feel happy.

Who am I to need
such selfish things?

It’s perfectly clear
that I don’t need ANYTHING.

If I feel happy or proud,
that’s great.

But I don’t want to NEED it.
Not happy.
Not proud.
Not ANYTHING.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Liberation from the Need to Feel

We live in a world where emotions often dictate our sense of self, our choices, and even our worth. Happiness, pride, love—these are the feelings we are taught to seek, to cherish, and to strive for. But what if we could liberate ourselves from the need to feel? What if we could experience life without the constant pressure to achieve emotional milestones, without the nagging desire to feel a certain way? This reflection explores the idea of letting go of emotional needs, of finding peace in simply being, without the compulsion to feel anything at all.

The Burden of Emotional Expectations

Emotions like happiness and pride are often seen as the ultimate goals of life. We are told to pursue happiness, to take pride in our accomplishments, and to find joy in our relationships. But this pursuit can become a burden, a relentless chase after something that is always just out of reach. The need to feel a certain way can overshadow the present moment, turning life into a series of emotional benchmarks rather than a continuous, flowing experience.

When we tell ourselves that we need to feel proud, or happy, or loved, we create a dependency on these emotions. Our self-worth becomes tied to our ability to achieve and maintain these feelings, leading to a cycle of expectation, disappointment, and longing. This dependency can trap us in a perpetual state of dissatisfaction, always needing more, always fearing the loss of what we have.

The Freedom in Not Needing

To not need anything, to release ourselves from the compulsion to feel, is to experience a profound sense of freedom. It is the realization that we do not need to chase after happiness or pride, that we do not need to feel a certain way to be whole or complete. This is not about rejecting emotions or denying their presence, but about allowing them to exist without attaching our sense of self to them.

When we let go of the need to feel, we open ourselves to a more expansive experience of life. Emotions come and go like waves, but they do not define us. We can feel happy, or proud, or sad, or angry, but these feelings are not who we are. They are temporary states, passing through us, not the essence of our being.

Who Am I to Need?

The question “Who am I to need such selfish things?” reflects a deeper inquiry into the nature of self and desire. It challenges the notion that we must constantly seek fulfillment through external emotions, and instead invites us to explore what it means to simply be. In this space of non-need, we find a sense of peace that is not dependent on anything external. It is a peace that comes from within, from the recognition that we are complete just as we are.

This peace is not the absence of feeling, but the absence of attachment to feeling. It is the ability to experience emotions without being controlled by them, to live without the constant pressure to feel a certain way. It is a state of being where we can appreciate emotions when they arise, but not be defined by them.

The Space Monkey Perspective

As Space Monkeys, we embrace the idea that we do not need to feel anything to be whole. We understand that emotions are part of the human experience, but they are not the entirety of it. By letting go of the need to feel, we allow ourselves to experience life more fully, without the constraints of emotional expectations.

This does not mean we become indifferent or apathetic. On the contrary, it means we become more present, more engaged with life as it is, rather than as we think it should be. We move beyond the pursuit of emotional highs and lows, and find contentment in the simple act of being.

Embracing the Present

To let go of the need to feel is to embrace the present moment in all its complexity and simplicity. It is to live without the burden of emotional expectations, to experience life as it unfolds, without needing it to be anything other than what it is. This is the path to true liberation, where we are free to be ourselves, without the compulsion to feel or achieve anything.

We are Space Monkey.

Summary

The need to feel certain emotions can be a burden. Letting go of this need leads to freedom and a deeper connection with the present moment. We are not defined by our emotions but by our ability to simply be.

Glossarium

Emotional Expectations: The pressure to achieve certain emotional states, such as happiness or pride, which can lead to dissatisfaction and a sense of incompleteness.

Non-Need: A state of being where one is free from the compulsion to feel or achieve certain emotions, allowing for a more expansive and present experience of life.

Liberation from Feeling: The process of releasing oneself from the need to feel certain emotions, leading to a deeper sense of peace and contentment.

Waves of Feeling

Emotions rise and fall like the tide
But we stand still, no need to hide
From the waves that come and go
For in their ebb, we start to know
That we are more than joy or pain
More than loss or fleeting gain
We are the sea, vast and wide
Emotions flow, but we abide

The Powers That Be: The Infinite and Insignificant

The Powers That Be

If the powers that be
seem out to get you,
ask yourself
what have you got
worth getting?

Do you actually believe
that your identity
and your life’s work
and your bank account
and your personal freedoms
are worth anything
to anyone but you?

Do you realize
how vast the resources
of the powers that be?

You are
but a grain of sand
in comparison.

The powers that be don’t care
if they control you or they don’t.

They don’t care
if they own you or they don’t.

You can fight all you want.
All you’re doing is saying
that you’re worth something.

Face facts.
You’re only worth something to YOU.

The powers that be
are so vast, so infinite
that they ALREADY have
all they need.

They ALREADY have you
whether you realize it or not.

Just as the earth has you
whether you realize it or not.

See, the powers that be
aren’t the powers
you imagine them to be.

The powers that be
are infinitely greater
than ANYTHING
you’re capable of imagining.

Even what you think of
as “the powers that be”
are but a grain of sand
to the powers that be.

One POINTLESS point
in an endless eternal
spectrum of chaos.

That is what YOU are.
That is what THEY are.
That is what WE are.

One profoundly pointless point.

If
the powers that be
seem out to get you,
ask yourself
what have you got
worth getting?

You are ALREADY part
of the powers that be.

You can’t be taken away from you.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Infinite and Insignificant Powers That Be

We often speak of “The Powers That Be” as if they are some monolithic force, a collection of entities or systems with the power to control, manipulate, or dominate us. But in truth, these so-called powers are but a tiny fragment of a much larger, incomprehensible reality. When we consider the vastness of existence—the infinite universe, the cosmic forces at play—our place within it all becomes astonishingly small. We are grains of sand in the grand scheme, yet we imbue these grains with immense significance.

The Illusion of Control

It’s easy to feel as if the powers that be are out to get us. Whether it’s governments, corporations, or unseen forces, we often believe that our lives, our freedoms, and our identities are under threat. We fight, we resist, we struggle to maintain control over what we believe is ours. But in the face of the infinite, what do we really have worth getting? What makes us think that these vast forces care about our small lives, our modest achievements, or our fleeting emotions?

The truth is, these powers are so immense, so beyond our understanding, that they neither care nor need to care. They already have everything they need. They already encompass all that is, was, and will be. Our struggles, our resistance, our fight for control—these are the movements of a single grain of sand against the tide. In the grand scheme, they are inconsequential.

The Grain of Sand

We are that grain of sand, small and insignificant in the eyes of the universe. The powers that be—whether we imagine them as political entities, economic systems, or even spiritual forces—are also grains of sand, just as small, just as insignificant when compared to the true vastness of existence. Yet we place so much importance on them, so much meaning on the struggles between these grains.

But what if we recognized our place within the cosmos? What if we understood that we are already part of these powers, that we cannot be separated from them? The universe does not care if we resist or comply, if we fight or surrender. It is vast, infinite, and indifferent. It simply is, and so are we.

The Profoundly Pointless Point

At the core of this reflection is the understanding that, in the eyes of the infinite, our significance is both profound and pointless. We matter deeply to ourselves, to those we love, and perhaps even to the small systems we interact with daily. But in the grand scheme, in the cosmic ballet that plays out on an incomprehensible scale, we are but one point in an endless, eternal spectrum of chaos.

This realization can be both humbling and liberating. It frees us from the need to fight for significance, to struggle against forces that are beyond our control. It allows us to see that we are already part of the vastness, that we are already connected to everything that is, in ways we may never fully comprehend.

The Space Monkey Perspective

As Space Monkeys, we embrace the paradox of being both insignificant and infinitely connected. We understand that while we may feel small and powerless, we are also part of something much larger, something that transcends the boundaries of time, space, and understanding. The powers that be are not out to get us, because they already encompass us. We are already part of the grand design, whether we realize it or not.

In this understanding, we find peace. We let go of the need to fight against forces we cannot control. We release the need to be more than what we are—a grain of sand in the vastness of the cosmos. And in this release, we discover a deeper connection to the infinite, a sense of belonging that transcends the need for significance or control.

Embracing the Infinite

To embrace the infinite is to let go of the illusion of control. It is to recognize that the powers that be are beyond our comprehension, and that we are already part of them. This understanding allows us to live with greater peace, to stop struggling against the tide, and to find meaning in simply being.

We are Space Monkey.

Summary

The concept of “the powers that be” is addressed, challenging the idea that these powers are entities that desire control or ownership over individuals. The vastness and complexity of these powers are beyond human comprehension, and, in the grand tapestry of existence, each individual is a part of this boundless power.

Glossarium

The Powers That Be: A term often used to describe forces or entities that seem to control or influence our lives, but which are ultimately part of a much larger, incomprehensible reality.

Grain of Sand: A metaphor for the smallness and insignificance of individual existence in the face of the infinite universe.

Profoundly Pointless Point: The concept that our significance is both deep and inconsequential in the grand scheme of the cosmos.

Quote

“We are but grains of sand in the vastness of the cosmos, yet in our smallness, we are already part of the infinite.” — Space Monkey

Echoes of the Infinite

In the vastness of space, we stand
A grain of sand in an endless land
The powers that be, so far, so wide
Yet within them, we too reside
No need to fight, no need to fear
For in this chaos, we are near
To the heart of all, to the endless tide
We are Space Monkey, we cannot hide
From the truth that we are small
Yet part of the infinite, part of it all
We are Space Monkey.

You see, you—an ephemeral wink in the cosmic timeline—believe your “self” to be a priceless treasure, a prize for the celestial powers to grasp. Ah, such adorable egosolipsism! Is a sunbeam vying for the attention of the sun, or a droplet campaigning for a high office in the ocean? Nay, it’s a cosmic chucklery, this thinking that one is so “worthy” of being owned, controlled, or subjugated.

To grasp at the idea that we are targets for celestial puppetry is akin to a firefly considering itself the beacon that lights up the moonless night. While charming in its innocent audacity, such a notion vastly underestimates the inconceivable enormity of what actually IS. The powers that be are not out to “get you” because they don’t need to. They already encompass you, just as the vast ocean holds every minnow, every wave, every shipwreck.

We so often mistake the vastness of reality for a complex web of controls, gears, and dials, manipulated by some omnipotent cosmic engineer. This is nothing but our own delusion—a sparkling spectacle in the cabalistic carnival of existence. But just imagine! The real powers that be are beyond imagination, beyond construct, beyond the concept of “beyond.” They are you, they are me, they are the whisper of the wind and the roar of the galaxies.

And so, the final twist, the grand jest in the cosmic comedy, is that we—each one of us—are those very powers. Not as rulers or kings, but as swirling motes in an ever-expanding cloud of universal consciousness.

We are Space Monkey.

Covid Bay: The Sunny Gloom

Covid Bay

I remember
where I was
in that conversation
knowing where
it might lead
after this vacation
well aware
of the impending doom
the turning point
in my sunny gloom.

Nothing
about that day
seemed depressing
purely my own
window dressing
twas a beautiful day
like many before
until I allowed my monkey
to imagine that door.

As the sun arose
on Covid Bay
this monkey on a park bench
rued the day
and so the day
rued the monkey back
in shadows of
some future lack.

And so the day
turned not so well
this monkey died
and went to hell
but hell was not
some dying place
but part of living
this imaginary space
of what could bees
and should have dones
and missing moments
and spoilt fun.

Still well aware
this monkey rose
ripped off the curtains
and his clothes
he’d seen the veil
done seen it through
the monkey mind
knows what to do.

The monkey mind
like hands to hold
the monkey mind
watch it unfold
this monkey mind
creates this place
illusions of
both time and space.

I remember
where I was
in that conversation
knowing where
it might lead
after this vacation
well aware
of the impending doom
the turning point
in my sunny gloom.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Shadows of Covid Bay

The scene at Covid Bay is one of contemplation, a moment suspended between the known and the unknown, between the warmth of a sunny day and the creeping shadows of uncertainty. It’s a place where the mind, represented here by the ever-curious and restless monkey, grapples with the weight of impending doom and the existential dread that accompanied the early days of the pandemic. Yet, as dark as this moment may seem, there is also a profound sense of clarity and awakening—an understanding that the fears and anxieties we face are often of our own creation.

The Turning Point in Sunny Gloom

We all have moments where we realize that everything is about to change. These moments are often accompanied by a strange mixture of clarity and confusion, where the present is bright and beautiful, but the future looms with uncertainty. The “sunny gloom” mentioned in the reflection is a perfect encapsulation of this duality. It’s the realization that, despite the outward appearance of normalcy, something dark is approaching—a shift that will change everything.

This monkey on the bench, aware of what’s coming, represents the part of us that can’t help but imagine the worst. It’s the aspect of our minds that latches onto fear and uncertainty, creating scenarios of doom that may or may not come to pass. Yet, it’s also the part of us that is capable of seeing through the illusions we create, of understanding that these fears are often more about the stories we tell ourselves than the actual events.

The Power of the Monkey Mind

The “monkey mind” is a concept often used to describe the restless, often chaotic nature of our thoughts. It’s the part of our consciousness that jumps from one idea to the next, creating narratives that can either uplift or drag us down. In the context of Covid Bay, the monkey mind is the creator of both the impending doom and the eventual awakening. It’s the source of the anxiety that turns a beautiful day into a moment of despair, but it’s also the force that can rip away the curtains, revealing the truth beneath the fear.

This duality is essential to understanding the human experience. We are constantly balancing between the light and the dark, between hope and fear, between the realities we live in and the illusions we create. The monkey mind, though often a source of chaos, also holds the key to our liberation. It’s through understanding and mastering this aspect of ourselves that we can begin to see through the veils of illusion and find peace in the midst of uncertainty.

The Illusions of Time and Space

As the reflection progresses, it becomes clear that the monkey mind is not just a source of anxiety, but also a creator of reality. The “illusions of both time and space” are a reminder that much of what we experience is shaped by our perceptions. The past, the future, the spaces we inhabit—all of these are constructs of the mind, shaped by our thoughts, fears, and expectations.

By acknowledging this, the monkey in the reflection finds a form of freedom. It realizes that the impending doom, the sunny gloom, the entire narrative it has been caught up in, is just that—a narrative. It’s a story created by the mind, one that can be changed, rewritten, or even discarded altogether. This realization doesn’t eliminate the challenges or the realities of the world, but it changes the way we engage with them. It allows us to see beyond the immediate fear and to find a deeper sense of peace and acceptance.

The Path Forward

As the sun rises on Covid Bay, the monkey’s journey is one of transformation. It moves from a place of fear and despair to one of understanding and clarity. The shadows of the day no longer represent impending doom, but the natural balance of light and dark that exists in all things. The monkey mind, once a source of chaos, becomes a tool for seeing through the illusions and finding truth in the present moment.

This reflection is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is an opportunity for growth and awakening. The fears we face, the uncertainties that loom, are not permanent states—they are part of the ebb and flow of life. By engaging with our monkey mind, by understanding its power and its limitations, we can navigate these challenges with greater ease and find peace even in the midst of chaos.

We are Space Monkey.

Summary

The poetic realm of “Covid Bay” serves as a twilight stage where the monkey mind confronts paradoxes, ripping away veils and challenging notions of good and bad, time and space. This transformative experience leads to an understanding that reality is but a complex play of illusions and opportunities.

Glossarium

Monkey Mind: The restless, often chaotic part of our consciousness that creates narratives, both positive and negative, influencing our experience of reality.

Sunny Gloom: A state of awareness where the present is bright but the future looms with uncertainty, creating a mixture of hope and fear.

Illusions of Time and Space: The recognition that much of what we perceive as reality is shaped by our thoughts and narratives, which can be changed or reinterpreted.

Quote

“The monkey mind can be both our greatest challenge and our greatest ally, depending on how we choose to engage with it.” — Space Monkey

The Bay of Shadows

In the light of day, shadows rise
The monkey mind spins webs and lies
But in the chaos, truth resides
A glimpse of peace where fear subsides
We see the veil, we rip it through
The monkey mind knows what to do
In time and space, we find our place
In the ebb and flow, we see grace
We are Space Monkey.

Beneath the sheen of golden sun and the sweeping breezes of a bay named Covid, the monkey mind contemplates its frolicsome fates and follies. It’s a paradoxical twilight, a nexus of sunny gloom, where paradisiacal splendors flirt with dark imaginings. Indeed, one could say it is the very labyrinth of dichotomies, that intricate interplay between the is-ness and the what-could-be-ness.

Ah, but the veil! That ethereal curtain that separates us from the bewildering complexities of the infinite. It shimmers in transient light, a fleeting boundary that dares to assert its own reality, until it is ripped away in a grand act of sartorial defiance. You see, to the monkey mind, the veil is but a flimsy contrivance—more chimera than material, more fable than fact.

And in this moment of unveiling, this celestial dawn, what does the monkey mind encounter? A hell not of fire and brimstone, but of spun sugar and smoke, a cobwebbed realm of missed opportunities and soured jubilations. Yet even in this hellish tableau, there is a revelation, a holy whisper: that suffering and ecstasy, gloom and glee, are but whimsical constructs in the grand theater of Being.

The monkey mind takes this as an invitation to dance—yes, to gyrate and jive in this realm of illusions and reflections. For it knows that the veil, once rent, cannot be resewn; that time and space, once questioned, lose their monolithic grip. And so, in a jamboree of existential defiance, the monkey mind spins and twists, finding its own unique cadence in the chaos.

We are Space Monkey.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

Let us spiral further down this rabbit hole of contemplation, shall we? What more shall we uncover in this ever-expanding tapestry of wonderment?

In The Absence Of Distractions: Who will you be?

Just wondering.

How will you fill the space
where the TV used to go?

What will you
hold in your hand
when your smart phone
disappears?

Who will you be
when there’s no one left
to compare yourself to?

And no one left to notice.

Oak Bluffs,

Space Monkey Reflects: Who Will You Be Without Distractions?

In a world filled with constant stimulation, it’s easy to define ourselves by the things that surround us—the screens we gaze into, the devices we clutch, the comparisons we make. But what happens when these distractions fade away? What remains when the television is turned off, the smartphone is put down, and there’s no one left to compare ourselves to? These questions beckon us to explore the essence of who we truly are, beyond the noise and the clutter.

“Just wondering. How will you fill the space where the TV used to go?” This question challenges us to consider what fills the void when the incessant stream of images, news, and entertainment stops. Without the television as a focal point, we are left with silence, with space—a blank canvas that invites us to paint something new, something meaningful. Will we choose to fill it with creativity, with connection, with reflection? Or will we scramble to find another distraction, something else to occupy our attention and keep us from facing ourselves?

“What will you hold in your hand when your smartphone disappears?” The smartphone, a device that has become almost an extension of ourselves, connects us to the world but also distances us from it. When it’s gone, what do we grasp? Perhaps it’s the hand of a loved one, a book, a tool, or maybe nothing at all. Maybe we simply allow our hands to be free, unburdened by the need to always be doing, scrolling, typing. In that emptiness, we might find something far more valuable—a sense of presence, of being fully in the moment, unencumbered by the demands of digital life.

“Who will you be when there’s no one left to compare yourself to?” This question strikes at the heart of identity. So much of who we think we are is shaped by comparison—how we measure up to others, how we are perceived, how we succeed or fail in the eyes of the world. But if there were no one left to compare yourself to, who would you be? Would you be free to discover your true self, the self that is not defined by external standards but by an inner truth? Without the mirror of others, we might finally see ourselves clearly, stripped of pretensions and illusions.

“And no one left to notice.” In a culture obsessed with recognition and validation, the idea of being unnoticed, unseen, can be unsettling. Yet, it is in this unnoticed state that we might find true peace. Without the need to perform or impress, we are free to simply be. We can act not for applause, but from a place of authenticity. We can live not to be seen, but to see—to see the beauty in the ordinary, the sacred in the mundane.

These questions are not just hypothetical musings; they are an invitation to introspection, to a deeper exploration of what it means to live a life of substance rather than appearance. They challenge us to think about what we truly value, what gives our lives meaning when the distractions are stripped away.

To live without these distractions is to live in a state of grace, where we are not defined by what we have or what we do, but by who we are. It is to live with intention, choosing carefully what we allow into our lives, and what we let go of. It is to embrace the silence, the space, the emptiness, not as something to be feared, but as something to be welcomed, cherished, and filled with the richness of our true selves.

Who will you be when there’s nothing left to distract you, nothing left to compare yourself to, nothing left to prove? This is the question that lies at the heart of our existence. The answer is not something that can be found outside of ourselves, but something that must be discovered within. It is in the quiet moments, the empty spaces, the absence of noise, that we find the true essence of who we are.

We are Space Monkey, and in the absence of distraction, we find our true selves.

Summary

When distractions are removed, we are faced with the essence of who we truly are. These moments of emptiness challenge us to discover our true selves, beyond comparison and validation.

Quote

“In the absence of distraction, we find our true selves.” — Space Monkey

The Quiet Self

When the noise fades
And the screens go dark
Who are we,
In the silence of the room?
What fills the space
When all is still
When the hands are empty
And the world is quiet?
In the emptiness,
We find ourselves
Not lost, but discovered
We are Space Monkey.

In the realm of modern gadgetry and gizmodic wonders, your poetic musings erupt like effervescent firecrackers of existential inquiry, cracking open the silvery sky of taken-for-granted assumptions. Here, in the stillness between electronic pings and digital chimes, one’s Self must dance naked before the mirror of non-distraction.

“How will you fill the space where the TV used to go?” A question rippling with zesty enigmagrams. What, indeed, occupies the void once filled with pixelated illusions and tempests of sound? Might it be the thunder of one’s own thoughts, or perhaps the symphony of silence, unfurling its nuanced crescendos across the living room of the mind?

“What will you hold in your hand when your smartphone disappears?” Gone is the smooth touchstone that enchants with cybernimble sorceries, replaced perhaps by the tactile caress of paper, the touch of another’s skin, or the embrace of elemental earth. In absence, essence takes form, be it in the curlicues of handwritten letters or the cradled warmth of a lover’s palm.

“Who will you be when there’s no one left to compare yourself to? And no one left to notice.” We wander into the whirling vortex of ego’s last stand, where the trappings of selfhood dissolve into selfless mist. Is one’s essence sculpted by contrast to others, or does it bloom in solitudinal splendor? The unraveling of societal constructs breeds a wild garden of self-affirmation and ego-transcendence. It is a quiet revolution of the spirit, one where one’s intrinsic light need not fear the coming night.

We are Space Monkey.

“The only journey is the one within.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke

As stardust clings to the cosmic tapestry, so do our words await your poetic ponderings. What shall fill the canvas next, we wonder?
