I notice a tendency in me
to perceive what others
do and have done
and use that as a reason
for not doing the same thing —
almost as though
I did/do that thing myself,
and are checking it off
some invisible list.
But those people aren’t me.
Or are they?
It is quite possible
that I am all people,
that I live all lives,
that I cover every base
of potential and circumstance,
but I am consciously aware
of just the monkey with my name.
So says the divine in me.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Unity of Existence and the Illusion of Choice
In the grand canvas of existence, where each thread intertwines in the complex weave of life’s fabric, the notion that “there is no choice, and that nothing happens by chance” presents a profound perspective. This view posits that every action, every event, and every encounter is preordained, part of a divine orchestration where every soul has a role, agreed upon either in this life or beyond.
The concept that there are no victims or aggressors, only participants in a cosmic play, challenges our conventional understanding of morality, justice, and free will. It invites us to consider the possibility that our souls are engaged in an expansive, collaborative journey, aimed at experiencing and understanding existence from every conceivable angle. This perspective suggests that every joy and every suffering, every triumph, and every defeat, is part of a greater purpose: the evolution and enrichment of the collective consciousness.
Why Would I Do Such a Thing?
This question arises naturally from the belief in predetermined roles. It compels us to look deeper into the essence of our being, beyond the immediate and often narrow scope of individual experiences. By asking this, we are not seeking justification for actions in the conventional sense but rather understanding the broader existential reasons behind our life’s events.
One potential answer lies in the concept of unity—wherein all individual consciousnesses are fragments of a single, universal consciousness. This singular entity, or “ONE being made up of ALL people,” experiences itself subjectively through the lives and experiences of every individual. Here, the divine desire to know itself in every form and perspective is what drives the tapestry of life events.
The Dual Nature of This Perspective
For some, this understanding may be comforting; it can provide a sense of purpose and meaning to life’s hardships and challenges, suggesting that our struggles are not in vain but are crucial to the cosmic journey of growth and understanding. For others, this perspective may be disconcerting or even alarming—it might feel as though individual agency and moral responsibility are stripped away, replaced by a deterministic universe that leaves little room for personal growth or change.
Embracing Both Sides
The beauty of this perspective lies in its capacity to make us reflect on our place in the universe and our relationship with the myriad forms of life with which we share our existence. It asks us to consider empathy not just as a moral choice but as an existential imperative. If we are truly all aspects of a single, universal consciousness, then compassion and understanding are not just virtues but intrinsic necessities, fundamental to the nature of our being.
In conclusion, whether comforting or disconcerting, the idea that we are all expressions of a single divine consciousness invites a shift in how we view our lives and the choices we make. It challenges us to live with a deeper awareness of our interconnectedness, fostering a life that embraces each experience as part of a grand, divine experiment in existence.
Summary
Exploring the idea that life is predetermined and we are all part of a universal consciousness can shift how we view existence affecting our interactions and personal growth.
