I don’t have the kind of friends
who take me out to have a good time,
text me regularly to see if I’m okay,
or share their joys and sorrows.
I don’t have those kinds of friends.
My friends know that
I don’t feel an obligation
to keep in touch regularly,
go out, socialize, be polite,
or otherwise pressure them
into being my friend.
Still, I like to remind
these friends that
if they ever need a liver,
I’ll be right there,
no judgments made,
no questions asked.
I think I should say
kidney from now on.
