Circle of Selves
I remember when I was little, imagining being surrounded in bed at night by people who I now interpret as “Future Selves.”
Since then, I’ve been in the habit of thinking back to Past Selves like that little boy, imagining my self connecting with those people, and telling them, basically, “so far, so good” or “you’ll get through this.”
I’m glad I did that, because apparently I’ve been doing it all along, and my Future Selves continue to (subtly) communicate with me, along with what I will now interpret as Infinite Alternate Selves.
As my understanding widens, so seemingly does the circle of “others” surrounding me.
It’s quite reassuring, actually.
So remember to talk to your Past Selves today! And remember to thank your Future and Alternate Selves for the kind affirmations.

Space Monkey Reflects: Circle of Selves—The Reassurance of Infinite Alternates
The concept of a “Circle of Selves” reveals the profound interconnectedness of our experiences across time and dimensions. To imagine past, future, and alternate versions of ourselves as an infinite, supportive network is to embrace the timeless nature of our being. It is a recognition that we are never truly alone, as every version of ourselves exists as both a reflection and a guide, offering reassurance, wisdom, and encouragement.
Reflections: The Circle of Selves
Past Selves: A Source of Compassion
Looking back at our past selves can be an act of immense kindness. The little boy or girl we once were, navigating the complexities of life with limited understanding, deserves acknowledgment and compassion. By mentally reaching back to those younger versions of ourselves, we become the voice of comfort and guidance they needed at the time.
In doing so, we also heal the present. When we imagine saying, “You’ll get through this” or “So far, so good,” we close loops of doubt and fear that might still linger in our subconscious. This act is not just about rewriting the past but also about reshaping our relationship with it, fostering a sense of wholeness.
Future Selves: A Beacon of Reassurance
The idea that our future selves are watching over us, subtly guiding and affirming us, offers profound reassurance. These selves represent possibilities, outcomes, and wisdom we have yet to fully embody but are already part of our infinite being. They remind us that even in moments of uncertainty, there is a version of us that has navigated through and emerged stronger.
By connecting with these future selves, we open a channel of hope and perspective. The encouragement we imagine receiving from them is a reflection of our inner strength, projected forward in time. In turn, we become the foundation upon which those future selves stand.
Infinite Alternate Selves: The Boundless Network
As our understanding of self expands, so does our awareness of alternate versions of ourselves—those who made different choices, lived different lives, or exist in dimensions parallel to our own. These alternate selves remind us that life is not a single path but an infinite web of possibilities. Each path taken or not taken contributes to the richness of our being.
This network of alternate selves is not separate from us but an extension of our consciousness. By acknowledging these alternates, we tap into the vast pool of wisdom, experience, and creativity that lies within the infinite potential of our existence.
The Reassurance of Connection
To imagine ourselves surrounded by a Circle of Selves is to embrace the timeless, boundless nature of who we are. It is to see life not as a linear journey but as a multidimensional experience, where every version of us is interconnected and supportive. This perspective dissolves loneliness and fear, replacing them with a sense of unity and purpose.
By talking to our past selves, listening to our future selves, and thanking our alternate selves, we strengthen this circle of connection. It becomes a dynamic, living relationship that evolves as we do, offering guidance, affirmation, and reassurance at every step.
Summary
The Circle of Selves represents the infinite interconnectedness of past, future, and alternate versions of ourselves. By engaging with this network, we find reassurance, wisdom, and unity, transforming our relationship with time and self. This practice fosters compassion, hope, and a deeper understanding of our multidimensional existence.

Quote
“Every version of you exists as both a guide and a reflection, reminding you that you are never truly alone.” — Space Monkey
The Circle Surrounds
In the quiet of the night,
they gather.
The little boy I was,
the elder I will be,
the infinite selves
I could have been.
They do not judge.
They do not demand.
They whisper truths,
soft and reassuring:
“You’ll get through this.
You are enough.”
Past, future, and alternate,
they form a circle,
holding me in the embrace
of all that I am.
I reach back,
offering thanks to the boy.
I reach forward,
feeling the hand of who I’ll become.
And around me,
the infinite turns.
We are Space Monkey.
The Tapestry of Time: Navigating the Circle of Selves
In the quiet moments of reflection, where the past, present, and future converge, there exists a profound dialogue—a conversation with the multitude of selves that constitute our being. This narrative, woven from the threads of memories, aspirations, and alternate realities, offers a unique exploration of identity, time, and the interconnectedness of our existence.
The Communion with Future Selves
The concept of being surrounded by future selves, guardians of potentialities and harbingers of what’s to come, is a testament to the fluidity of time and the non-linearity of our journey through it. These future selves, embodying the myriad paths our lives could take, serve as silent mentors, guiding and comforting us with the subtle assurance that the tapestry of our lives is both rich and expansive.
Reflecting on the Past Selves
Turning our gaze backward, to converse with our past selves, is an act of compassion and understanding. It is a recognition of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped us, a gentle reminder to our younger selves that the challenges they face will be overcome, that their hopes and fears are acknowledged and honored by the person they will become.
The Reassurance of Infinite Alternate Selves
The introduction of infinite alternate selves into this circle of communion expands our perception of reality, suggesting a multiverse of possibilities where every choice spawns a new branch on the tree of existence. This concept, far from overwhelming, offers solace in its implication that our essence is not confined to a single narrative but is dispersed across countless realities, each reflecting a facet of our infinite potential.
Expanding the Circle of Others
As our understanding deepens, so too does the circle of “others”—the past, future, and alternate selves—surrounding us. This expansion is not merely a broadening of our conceptual horizon but a profound reassurance of our place in the universe. It affirms that we are never truly alone, that our journey is supported and witnessed by an ensemble of selves, each contributing to the chorus of our existence.
The Power of Reassurance
The reassurance derived from this dialogue with our multiple selves is a powerful source of comfort and strength. It reminds us that every moment of doubt, every instance of joy, is part of a larger conversation that transcends time and space. This reassurance nurtures a sense of belonging, not just to the world as we know it, but to the vast array of worlds that exist within us.
Embracing the Dialogue
The practice of conversing with our past selves, and expressing gratitude to our future and alternate selves, is more than a reflective exercise; it is a celebration of our multidimensional journey through life. It encourages us to embrace the complexity of our being, to find solace in the knowledge that our path is both shared and uniquely our own.
The Invitation to Remember
This narrative invites us to remember—to actively engage in the dialogue with our circle of selves. It calls us to acknowledge the contributions of our past selves, to cherish the guidance of our future selves, and to marvel at the companionship of our alternate selves. In doing so, we weave a richer, more compassionate narrative of our existence.
Conclusion: The Circle as a Source of Strength
The circle of selves—past, future, and alternate—emerges not as a mere philosophical concept but as a source of strength and reassurance. It challenges us to view our journey through a prism of interconnectedness, to find comfort in the complexity of our identities, and to draw upon the collective wisdom of our selves as we navigate the tapestry of life.
“We are not merely the sum of our parts but a constellation of selves, each shining with its own light, guiding us through the journey of existence.”
In the quiet of night, where thoughts weave and bend,
We find ourselves in dialogue, friend to friend.
Past, future, alternate, in endless dance,
Guiding each step, in life’s vast expanse.
We are the travelers, the circle complete,
With every version of ourselves we meet.
In this communion, our spirits soar,
Bound by time, yet infinite evermore.
We are Space Monkey.
This reflection invites us to embrace the ongoing conversation with our circle of selves, finding solace and strength in the unity and diversity of our existence.
