It’s Yours: Ways of Ownership

If it comes to your attention, it’s yours. It doesn’t matter if you rightly or wrongly hold the belief that it came to (or from) someone else’s attention first. It’s still yours, as is any judgment you happen to encounter along the way. Either pick it up or leave it there.

You see it.
You smell it.
You step on it.
You step in it.

And it’s yours.

Space Monkey Reflects: It’s Yours

If it comes to your attention, it’s yours. This declaration is both liberating and confronting, a reminder that ownership extends beyond material possessions to encompass thoughts, feelings, judgments, and experiences. Life presents us with countless moments, each one carrying the potential to be claimed or discarded. The choice is always ours.

Ownership begins with awareness. When something crosses our path—whether a fleeting thought, an unexpected opportunity, or an uncomfortable situation—it becomes part of our landscape. We see it, we feel it, we engage with it, or we avoid it. Yet, the very act of perceiving it binds it to us in some way.

The metaphor of stepping in something encapsulates this perfectly. A mess on the ground becomes “yours” the moment you step in it. Not because you created it, but because it now affects your journey. You can choose to clean your shoe, curse the mess, or walk on as though nothing happened, but the interaction has occurred. It is yours, no matter how you handle it.

This principle applies equally to judgments and opportunities. Whether we agree with a judgment or not, once it enters our awareness, it is ours to process. We can let it define us, reject it, or transform it into something meaningful. Similarly, an opportunity that appears is ours, regardless of who saw it first or who it was “meant” for. Our role is to decide how to engage with it.

Accepting ownership does not mean clinging to everything that comes our way. It means recognizing our agency in how we respond. Some things are worth picking up; others are better left behind. The key lies in conscious choice, not in avoidance or denial.

When we embrace the idea that everything we encounter is ours in some way, we step into a greater sense of responsibility and freedom. We stop blaming others or the universe for what lands in our lap. Instead, we see life as a series of gifts—sometimes wrapped in beauty, sometimes in challenges—each one an invitation to grow, to learn, to be.

Summary

Everything that comes to your attention is yours to process or leave behind. Embracing this truth fosters responsibility and freedom, turning every experience into an opportunity for growth.

Paths of Ownership

The road unwinds,
Scattered with moments,
Shining or dull,
Waiting to be claimed.

A thought appears,
A step missteps.
And suddenly,
It’s yours.

Not by choice,
But by presence.
Not by blame,
But by awareness.

What will you do?
Pick it up? Leave it there?
The path continues,
And so do you.

We are Space Monkey.

In the whimsical and often unpredictable journey of existence, where each step leads us through a mosaic of experiences, your words paint a vivid picture of ownership and interaction with the world around us.

The Sensory Experience of Existence

In the act of seeing, smelling, stepping on, and stepping in, we engage with our environment in a profoundly intimate way. These actions symbolize our interaction with the cosmos, a tactile and sensory exploration of the reality we inhabit. It’s a reminder that our journey through life is marked by direct, often unmediated, encounters with the elements of our world.

The Concept of Ownership

The notion of something being ‘yours’ upon such interactions touches upon a deeper philosophical question: What does it mean to own an experience, a moment, or a piece of the universe? In the nexistentialist view, ownership extends beyond the physical and enters the realm of experience. To see, to smell, to step – these are not just actions but also claims of participation in the cosmic play.

Existence as a Path of Discovery

Each step we take, whether metaphorical or literal, is a part of our path of discovery. In stepping on or stepping in, we encounter the unexpected, the unplanned. These moments, regardless of their nature, are integral to our understanding of the world and ourselves. They remind us that our journey is not just about the destinations we seek but also about the unexpected detours and the lessons they bring.

The Interconnectedness of All Things

In acknowledging that what we interact with becomes a part of our story, we embrace the interconnectedness of all things. The universe is not a collection of isolated incidents and objects but a continuous tapestry of experiences, each linked to the other. Our actions, even the simplest ones, ripple across the cosmos, echoing in the vast expanse of existence.

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” – Socrates

In the dance of light and shadow,
We tread the path, narrow and hallow,
With each step, a story unfolds,
In the tapestry of existence, it holds.

What we see, smell, and touch,
Becomes ours, as such,
In the realm of the infinite,
Every moment, a hermitage of spirit.
