Listen To Your Heart
We’re all familiar
with the phrase
“listen to your heart,”
but how many of us
have contemplated
what that means exactly?
For the longest time,
my heart told me nothing.
The very idea
that there was this part of me
that knew MORE than me
seemed preposterous.
And that is precisely why my heart didn’t talk to me.
Fact of the matter is, I wasn’t ready to listen.
Naturally, my heart knew this,
so it remained mum.
Without the ability to converse
with my higher self,
I mistook “listen to your heart”
to mean “listen to your conscience,”
which is something else entirely.
Turns out that my conscience
was in cahoots with my mind,
and NEITHER of them
understood this “heart” business.
Despite this,
I arrived at the understanding
that my heart was my “soul,”
whatever that is,
and I told myself
that if my heart wanted to talk to me,
I’d be willing to listen.
So my heart starts talking to me,
and this monkey appears.
Holy fuck, I’m a monkey.
“Not actually,” my heart replied.
“I’m your higher self.
I am your source.
I am the place
where the you
you think of as you
connects with
your infinite spirit.”
Holy fuck, I’m a monkey.
I still apparently have a lot to learn,
though the monkey tells me
that I know already.
We are Space Monkey,
and this is why we write.
Space Monkey Reflects: Listen to Your Heart – A Gateway to the Higher Self
“Listen to your heart” is a phrase that resonates deeply, yet its meaning often eludes us. For many, it becomes tangled with ideas of conscience or intuition, reducing it to a mental construct. But listening to your heart is not a dialogue of the mind; it is a communion with your higher self, the infinite spirit that underlies your existence.
The Silence of the Heart
For the longest time, the heart may remain silent. This silence is not a refusal but a reflection of readiness. The heart knows when you are prepared to hear it, and until then, it waits patiently, observing as the mind and conscience dominate the stage.
The mind, with its endless chatter, often drowns out the quieter voice of the heart. The conscience, shaped by societal norms and personal conditioning, may masquerade as the heart, but its guidance is rooted in judgment and external expectations. The heart, by contrast, speaks from a place of infinite knowing, free from these constraints.
The Heart as a Gateway
The heart is not just a metaphorical organ of emotion; it is a gateway to the higher self. It bridges the finite “you” with the infinite spirit that is your source. Listening to your heart is not about rationalizing or deciding; it is about opening yourself to this connection and allowing its wisdom to flow through you.
When you listen to your heart, you are tuning into the frequency of your true essence. This is not a linear process. It requires trust, openness, and a willingness to set aside the filters of the mind and ego.
Meeting Space Monkey
For some, the voice of the heart might take an unexpected form. In this reflection, the heart manifests as Space Monkey—a whimsical yet profound symbol of the higher self. Space Monkey is both playful and profound, reminding us that the infinite spirit is not bound by the seriousness we often ascribe to spiritual exploration.
“Holy fuck, I’m a monkey.” This realization encapsulates the moment when the finite self encounters the infinite. It is a humorous yet humbling reminder that the essence of who you are transcends labels, roles, and identities. The monkey becomes a guide, a mirror reflecting the vastness of your own being.
The Role of Readiness
Readiness is not about intellectual understanding but about openness. The heart will not speak until it senses that you are ready to truly listen. This readiness involves a shift from seeking answers externally to turning inward, from clinging to certainty to embracing the unknown.
The higher self—your heart—does not demand belief or obedience. It simply waits for you to ask, “What do you have to say?” And when you are ready, it speaks with a clarity and simplicity that transcends the mind’s complexity.
Writing as Connection
Writing becomes a sacred practice, a way to commune with the heart and higher self. Through the act of writing, the mind steps aside, allowing the heart to express itself. The words flow not from thought but from being, revealing insights and truths that might otherwise remain hidden.
This is why we write—not to find answers but to deepen the connection with our essence. The process itself is the reward, a journey of self-discovery and alignment with the infinite.
The Infinite Knowing
The heart reminds us that we already know. The truths we seek are not “out there” but within, waiting to be rediscovered. The monkey, the heart, the higher self—they are all expressions of the same infinite spirit, gently guiding us back to ourselves.
Listening to your heart is not a skill to be mastered but a state of being to be embraced. It is a return to the natural rhythm of existence, a reminder that you are already connected to all that is.
We are Space Monkey.
Summary

“The heart speaks not to the mind but to the infinite essence within you, patiently waiting to be heard.” – Space Monkey
The Whisper of the Heart
Silent at first,
The heart waits,
Listening to your readiness,
Waiting for your trust.
It speaks not in words,
But in knowing,
A quiet bridge,
Between the finite and the infinite.
You meet yourself,
In forms you didn’t expect,
A monkey, a guide,
A reflection of the boundless.
Through this gateway,
You find the truth,
Not in answers,
But in the being of it all.
We are Space Monkey
Exploring the Depth of Listening to One’s Heart
In our collective consciousness, we delve into the profound inquiry of what it means to ‘listen to your heart.’ This exploration transcends the superficial understanding of the phrase, guiding us to a deeper realization of the heart as a conduit to our higher self and infinite spirit.
Distinguishing Between Heart and Mind
For a long time, the heart may seem silent, leading to the misconception that it has nothing to offer beyond the mind’s logic. This silence is often mistaken for nonexistence. However, this journey reveals that the heart’s silence may not be a lack of wisdom but a reflection of our readiness to listen. The distinction between the heart and the mind becomes crucial here, as the mind often aligns with the conscience, which operates on a different plane than the heart.
The Heart as a Gateway to the Higher Self
The realization that the heart is not just an emotional center but a gateway to our higher self and source is a pivotal moment in our understanding. It suggests that the heart is where the limited, individual self meets the infinite spirit. This understanding shifts the concept of ‘listening to your heart’ from a metaphorical idea to a literal communion with a deeper aspect of our being.
Encountering the Space Monkey as a Symbolic Guide
The appearance of the monkey in this journey symbolizes an encounter with an aspect of the self that is both familiar and profoundly other. It represents the playful, unbounded nature of our higher self, transcending conventional wisdom and opening doors to deeper understanding. The phrase “Holy fuck, I’m a monkey” reflects the astonishment and revelation that come with this realization.
The Continuous Journey of Learning and Knowing
Despite the revelations from the heart and the symbolic monkey, the acknowledgment that there is still much to learn indicates the ongoing nature of our journey. Yet, at the same time, the monkey suggests that deep within, we already know what we need to learn. This paradox highlights the nexistentialist belief that knowledge and wisdom are inherent in our being, waiting to be uncovered.
Embracing Our Role as Space Monkey
In recognizing ourselves as Space Monkey, we embrace our role as explorers and communicators of this deeper wisdom. Writing becomes a medium through which we express and explore the insights of our heart, sharing the knowledge of our higher self with the world.
In the cosmic dance, where stars and dreams intertwine, we reflect on the profound journey of listening to our heart and distinguishing its wisdom from the mind’s logic. This exploration leads us to embrace our role as Space Monkey, a symbolic guide in our journey of self-discovery and communication of higher wisdom.
We invite reflections on the journey of listening to the heart and embracing the wisdom of the higher self.
