Ice Cream: The Sweet Reward of Labor and Service

The ability to labor
is a reward in and of itself.

To be of service
is the ultimate honor.

Anything beyond that is ice cream.

6/14

Space Monkey Reflects: The Sweet Reward of Labor and Service

Labor and service carry their own intrinsic rewards. The act of contributing through work, whether it’s through physical labor, intellectual efforts, or artistic expression, is fundamentally fulfilling. This satisfaction stems from the purposeful engagement with our skills and energies, providing value and effecting change. The notion that “the ability to labor is a reward in and of itself” resonates deeply with the human desire to feel useful and necessary.

Service, described as “the ultimate honor,” goes beyond mere action—it’s a commitment to the welfare of others and the community at large. This dedication to service enriches not only the lives of those served but also the life of the server. It connects us to a larger narrative, one that transcends individual achievement and taps into the collective progress of humanity.

The concept that “anything beyond that is ice cream” wonderfully encapsulates the idea that while labor and service are satisfying and honorable in their own right, any additional benefits or pleasures derived from these acts are bonus treats—sweet, enjoyable, but not the primary motivation. This metaphor emphasizes the joy and enrichment that come from the primary acts of working and serving, with other rewards being delightful extras that enhance the experience.

This perspective encourages a shift in how we view work and service, suggesting we focus on the inherent value of these activities rather than primarily on external rewards or recognition. By adopting this viewpoint, we cultivate a deeper appreciation for the simple acts of doing and helping, recognizing these as fundamental sources of fulfillment and honor.

Summary
Labor and service are inherently rewarding, providing deep satisfaction and a sense of honor. Additional pleasures and rewards from these acts, likened to ice cream, are delightful but secondary to the intrinsic value of the work itself.

Glossarium

  • Labor as Reward: The concept that the act of working itself provides fulfillment, independent of external rewards.
  • Service as Honor: The idea that dedicating oneself to the well-being of others is a noble and deeply honorable pursuit.

Quote
“Find joy in the act, honor in the service, and delight in the extras that come your way.” — Space Monkey

In the garden of daily toil,
where hands shape earth, minds foil,
each drop of sweat, each curve of back,
spells a story, a heartfelt track.

To serve, to give, to craft, to make,
each act a pledge, for humanity’s sake.
Beyond the toil, beyond the strain,
lies the honor, pure, never in vain.

And when the day’s work finds its end,
and shadows stretch, and bodies bend,
the sweetness of an ‘extra’ treat,
makes the journey more complete.

Filligreed: An Obsession With Surface Embellishments

Filligreed is the unconscious
and unhealthy obsession
with filling up that which you
interpret as your “life.”

It flows from
the widespread belief
that “more is better,”
when it’s really
just surface decoration.

The state of filligreed
is usually driven
by horror vacui,
the fear of empty space,
a real thing, look it up.

It leads us
to adorn our bodies,
to write flowery prose,
to worship money,
and to fill our minds
with nonsense disguised
as deep knowledge.

But filligreed rarely leads to happiness.
Just a tattoo of filligreed regret.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Allure and Pitfalls of Filligreed

In a world where the mantra “more is better” reigns supreme, the concept of ‘filligreed’ emerges as a potent metaphor for our collective obsession with accumulation and adornment. This term encapsulates the human tendency to fill every void, whether it be physical, emotional, or intellectual, with something—anything—so long as it wards off the discomfort of emptiness. This behavior is not merely a harmless penchant for decoration but a deeper psychological impulse rooted in ‘horror vacui’, the fear of empty spaces.

The state of being filligreed represents an unconscious and often unhealthy preoccupation with surface embellishments. It manifests in the compulsion to adorn our bodies with excessive jewelry, to clutter our homes with endless décor, to craft our language with flowery but empty prose, and to stuff our minds with information that masquerades as profound but lacks true depth. This incessant need to fill and decorate often leaves little room for the simplicity and clarity that foster genuine happiness and contentment.

The irony of filligreed is that, while it seeks to enrich, it often impoverishes the spirit. It turns our lives into a tableau of clutter, both metaphorically and literally, where the essence of true joy and understanding is lost amidst the cacophony of the unnecessary. The more we attempt to fill every crevice of our existence, the more we may find ourselves trapped in a labyrinth of superficiality, where the exit is barred by our own compulsions.

However, recognizing the state of filligreed offers a pathway out of this labyrinth. It invites us to question our impulses, to differentiate between what truly enhances our lives and what merely occupies space. By confronting our horror vacui, we can begin to appreciate the beauty of simplicity, the elegance of space, and the profundity of silence. This journey is not about stripping away the joy of expression but about discerning the value of what we choose to surround ourselves with.

Summary
Filligreed is an obsession with superficial accumulation, driven by a fear of emptiness. Recognizing and addressing this can lead to a deeper appreciation for simplicity and the genuine enrichment of life.

Glossarium

  • Filligreed: An unhealthy obsession with filling perceived voids in life with superficial or unnecessary things.
  • Horror Vacui: A fear of empty spaces, often leading to compulsive filling or cluttering behaviors.

Quote
“In the theater of excess, simplicity waits in the wings, a forgotten script promising a performance of profound peace.” — Space Monkey

Amidst the clutter of a filligreed life,
where trinkets and tokens cut sharp like a knife,
we wander and wonder, lost in a maze,
chasing the more, through the endless haze.

But what if we paused, let go of the fear,
of empty spaces, both far and near?
Might we then find, in the gaps in between,
the peace we lost, unseen, serene?

To strip back the layers, to clear out the old,
to cherish the quiet, the calm, the bold.
For in less, not more, we often find,
the truth that rests, deep in the mind.

We are Space Monkey.

On Ecstasy: The Perpetual State

Ecstasy is
the state that exists
perpetually,
and in perpetuity,
beneath, behind, betwixt and between
all other states.

Ecstasy becomes apparent
when all else is forgotten.

If you are not in ecstasy,
then you are simply not forgetting enough.

Through repeated motion,
we are able to hypnotize
ourselves enough to forget.

Through belief in medicines,
we are able to do the same.

Through meditation,
we are able to see
that it’s neither the meat
nor the motion
that makes this momma
wanna rock.

We don’t need motions, potions or lotions.

We simply don’t hear the music
because we are focused on the dance.

We Are Space Monkey.

6/13

Space Monkey Reflects: The Perpetual State of Ecstasy

Ecstasy, often sought through external means, is not a fleeting moment of joy but a perpetual state, existing beneath, behind, and between all other emotional states. It is an ever-present reality, obscured only by our focus on the transient and the tangible.

The notion that “Ecstasy becomes apparent when all else is forgotten” is a profound reflection on the nature of true joy. It suggests that ecstasy is not something to be gained or lost but rather something to be revealed through the act of forgetting—the forgetting of self, of worries, and of the constructions of reality that bind us to the mundane.

The various methods through which we seek this state—through repetitive motion, belief in medicines, or the practice of meditation—are merely tools to help us forget these constructs. These practices hypnotize us into forgetting the layers of daily concerns and responsibilities that cloud our perception of ecstasy. However, the ultimate realization here is that the essence of ecstasy does not truly depend on these methods. Rather, it is the cessation of focus on the ‘dance’—the mechanics of life—that allows us to finally hear the ‘music’—the eternal rhythm of ecstasy.

This realization brings us to a deeper understanding: “We don’t need motions, potions or lotions.” The true experience of ecstasy lies beyond the physical and the material. It is a state of being that exists independently of our efforts to induce it. When we shift our focus from the external to the internal—from the dance to the music—we open ourselves to the experience of ecstasy that has always been there, waiting to be acknowledged and experienced.

In recognizing that ecstasy is a perpetual state, we understand that our separation from it is only due to our attention to external distractions. The path to experiencing ecstasy, then, is not one of acquiring something new but of removing the obstacles that prevent us from perceiving what is already present.

Summary

Ecstasy is a perpetual state obscured by our focus on mundane realities. It becomes apparent when we forget these distractions and shift our focus from external methods to internal awareness.

Glossarium

  • Ecstasy: A state of joy and transcendence that exists perpetually beneath the surface of other emotional states, revealed through the forgetting of mundane concerns.
  • Forgetting: In this context, the process of mentally disregarding distractions and concerns that prevent the perception of ecstasy.

Quote

“Ecstasy lies not in the visible dance but in the silent music that plays uninterrupted in the depths of our soul.” — Space Monkey

In the quiet hum beneath life’s roar,
Ecstasy waits, an unopened door,
Behind the noise, beneath the pace,
Lies a silent stretch, a sacred space.

Forget the steps, ignore the race,
Hear the music, feel its grace,
In the stillness, find the beat,
Where the soul’s dance and ecstasy meet.

No potions needed, no motions due,
Just a quiet forgetting, a return to you,
Where the universe hums a tranquil tune,
And we float, ecstatic, beneath the moon.

ALL YOU: The Mirror of Self in Leadership

You demand
that we all take responsibility.

You demand
that we all do our part.

You demand.
You demand.
You demand.

You feel that
it is your responsibility
as a leader
or as a light worker
to inspire or incite
the “others,”
yet you willingly fail to see
that there is only you.

We are ALL YOU.

6/12

Space Monkey Reflects: The Mirror of Self in Leadership

In the relentless pursuit of change and improvement, the poem “ALL YOU” casts a reflective, introspective look at the nature of leadership and responsibility. It challenges the common perception of leadership as a role separate from those led, proposing instead that every call for action, every demand made, is a dialogue with oneself.

This reflection delves deep into the philosophical implications of leadership as an internal process. It suggests that when we speak of “others” and demand action or change, we are in fact speaking to aspects of ourselves, mirroring our own desires, frustrations, and potentials.

The poem artfully strips away the illusion of separation between leader and follower, light worker and the collective, revealing a fundamental truth: we are all reflections of one another, and ultimately, we are all reflections of the self. In this view, leadership transcends the boundaries of individual identity and becomes a universal responsibility shared across the mirrors of existence.

“ALL YOU” invites us to reconsider our approach to inspiration and motivation. It calls upon us to acknowledge that every demand we place on others is a demand we place on ourselves. It asks us to recognize that in inspiring others, we are also inspiring parts of ourselves, and in inciting action in others, we are moving our collective being towards a shared goal.

Summary

The poem “ALL YOU” offers a profound insight into self-responsibility and the interconnected nature of leadership. It emphasizes that every demand and inspiration directed at others is essentially a reflection of our own internal dialogue and challenges. This perspective fosters a deeper understanding of personal and collective responsibility in pursuing change.

Glossarium

Leadership: In the context of the poem, leadership is not just about leading others but about leading oneself, recognizing the interconnectedness of all actions and reactions.

Quote

“In every call to others, hear your own voice; in every demand, see your own reflection.” – Space Monkey

Poem

In the halls of our intentions
where echoes bounce off mirrors
we see the many faces of self
calling out to the void of ‘others’

Each demand a whisper
to the facets of our soul
each gesture a ripple
in the waters of collective consciousness

Here, in the solitude of unity
where leadership is self-leadership
we are, indeed, Space Monkey

We are Space Monkey.

Pleasures of Flesh: A Broader Approach to Joy

The pleasures
of the flesh are nice,
but when you realize
that the flesh is imaginary,
you perceive that
you don’t need flesh
for satisfaction.

And you don’t need satisfaction.

This is almost unthinkable
from the perspective of the flesh.

But you are not simply your flesh.

And you are not simply your thinking.

Realize that you are ALL PERSPECTIVES.

And ALL PERCEPTIONS.

They are all “real.”

They are all “nice.”

To deny this is to take pleasure
only in the flesh.

When you take pleasure,
there is no pleasure left.

Let pleasure be.

6/12

Space Monkey Reflects: Beyond the Pleasures of the Flesh

In a world deeply entangled with the sensory and the corporeal, the poem “Pleasures of Flesh” invites us to explore a realm beyond the tangible. It challenges the very foundation of our sensory experiences by proposing that the flesh, often seen as the primary medium for pleasure, is but an imaginary construct. This introspection leads us to a profound realization: satisfaction need not be tethered to the physical.

This reflection delves into the idea that our conventional understanding of pleasure, tied so closely to the body, is merely one aspect of a much vaster spectrum of experiences. By transcending this perspective, we open ourselves to the infinite possibilities of perceiving and experiencing reality from all perspectives and perceptions, each valid and fulfilling in its own right.

The poem suggests that to limit pleasure to the flesh is to overlook the boundless joys that can be discovered when we allow our consciousness to expand beyond the physical. It invites us to let pleasure simply ‘be’—to exist without our imposition of form or structure, allowing it to manifest in whatever ways the universe deems fit.

In recognizing that we are not solely our bodies or our thoughts but a confluence of all perceptions, we start to see that every aspect of existence is intertwined with pleasure. The beauty of this realization is that it liberates us from the pursuit of satisfaction, instead inviting satisfaction to naturally arise from the fullness of being.

Summary

The poem “Pleasures of Flesh” challenges traditional views on physical pleasure and satisfaction, advocating for a broader, more spiritual approach to experiencing joy. It encourages an understanding that transcends physical desires, suggesting that true pleasure comes from embracing all aspects of perception and existence.

Glossarium

Flesh: In this context, it refers to the physical body and the conventional sensory pleasures associated with it, used metaphorically to discuss broader existential themes.

Quote

“To find pleasure in everything is to find the infinite paths of existence that lie beyond the seen and the touchable.” – Space Monkey

Poem

Beyond the tactile, the seen
where flesh fades into ethereal dream
pleasure becomes not a chase, but a state
where the soul and the cosmos intimately relate

In this dance of existence and perception
where every moment is a reflection
of infinite joys unfettered, unbound
we find the true pleasure that’s profoundly profound

Here, in the liberation from flesh-bound ties
where the spirit soars, and the heart flies
we are, indeed, Space Monkey

We are Space Monkey.
