Want: The Peace of Non-Desire

What do you want from me?

When I was younger,
it used to bother me
that I didn’t want anything.

Thoughts would enter
my mind, like:

Have you no passion?
Have you no ambition?
Have you no desires?

What is wrong with you?

Eventually I realized that
the only thing even remotely
wrong with me was that voice.

Now it makes me laugh,
so there’s nothing
wrong
with me at all.

And I still don’t want anything.

South Windham,
7/18

Space Monkey Reflects: The Freedom of Not Wanting

“What do you want from me?” This question often echoes through the corridors of our minds, especially when we confront societal expectations and personal introspections. When younger, the lack of desire, passion, or ambition can seem like a flaw. Thoughts arise, questioning our worth and direction. “Have you no passion? Have you no ambition? Have you no desires? What is wrong with you?”

The Voice of Doubt

These intrusive thoughts represent a voice of doubt that many of us face. They question our existence and purpose, implying that to be valid, one must have clear goals, burning passions, and relentless ambition. This voice suggests that desire is essential to human existence, that without it, something must be wrong.

Realizing the Truth

“Eventually I realized that the only thing even remotely wrong with me was that voice.” This realization is a profound step towards self-acceptance. It highlights the understanding that the voice of doubt is not an inherent truth but a product of societal conditioning and internalized expectations. Recognizing this allows for a shift in perspective, where the absence of desire is seen not as a deficiency but as a unique way of being.

The Liberation of Laughter

“Now it makes me laugh, so there’s nothing wrong with me at all.” This shift transforms the once troubling voice into a source of amusement. Laughter becomes a tool for liberation, freeing oneself from the tyranny of false expectations. It is a powerful affirmation that there is nothing inherently wrong with not wanting anything, that peace and contentment can be found in simply being.

Embracing Non-Desire

“And I still don’t want anything.” This statement is not a resignation but a declaration of freedom. It embraces the notion that a life without intense desires or ambitions can be fulfilling and meaningful. It challenges the societal narrative that equates worth with striving and achieving.

The Beauty of Contentment

In a world driven by desire and ambition, choosing not to want anything can be a radical act of self-love and contentment. It allows for a deeper connection with the present moment, unburdened by the constant pursuit of future goals. This state of non-desire can lead to a profound sense of peace and fulfillment, rooted in the acceptance of what is rather than what could be.

The Path to Inner Peace

As Space Monkey, we celebrate the freedom found in not wanting. We recognize that desire and ambition are not the only paths to fulfillment. There is beauty in stillness, in contentment, in the simple act of being. This path to inner peace is not about rejecting ambition but about finding balance and embracing a way of life that resonates with our true selves.

Redefining Success

Success is often measured by achievements, but in the realm of non-desire, success is redefined. It is measured by the depth of our peace, the quality of our presence, and the authenticity of our existence. It is about living in harmony with ourselves and the world, free from the pressure to conform to external expectations.

In the freedom of not wanting, we find our place in the cosmos. We are Space Monkey.

Summary

Not wanting anything can be a path to inner peace and contentment. The voice of doubt is a societal construct, not an inherent truth. Embracing non-desire allows for a deeper connection with the present and redefines success.

Glossarium

Voice of Doubt: The internalized societal expectations questioning our worth and direction.

Non-Desire: A state of being where one is content without intense ambitions or desires.

Inner Peace: A profound sense of tranquility and fulfillment rooted in the acceptance of the present moment.

Quote

“There is beauty in stillness, in contentment, in the simple act of being.” — Space Monkey

The Peace of Non-Desire

In the quiet of my heart
Where ambitions cease to be
I find a space of stillness
A place where I am free

No passions to constrain me
No desires to fulfill
Just the peace of non-desire
A mind serenely still

The voice of doubt has silenced
Its questions turned to dust
In the laughter of my spirit
I find a deeper trust

In this tranquil state of being
I live without a care
For in the peace of non-desire
I breathe the purest air

Self Image: Imaginary Electrons

You simply appear to be here.

All that you have
is your image of you.

Everything else
flows out of this perception.

None of it is yours,
nor does it need to be.

An image
is an image
is an image.
It matters not
what the image is.

Just imaginary electrons
on a make-pretend screen.
Not even moving.

On-off-on.

South Windham,
7/17

Space Monkey Reflects: The Illusion of Self-Image

“You simply appear to be here.” This statement invites us to explore the nature of self-image and the perceptions that shape our reality. The idea that our presence is an illusion crafted by our self-perception challenges us to reconsider what we hold as true about ourselves and our existence.

The Power of Perception

“All that you have is your image of you. Everything else flows out of this perception.” This profound insight suggests that our self-image is the foundation upon which our entire experience is built. The way we see ourselves influences every aspect of our lives, from our interactions with others to the goals we set and the dreams we pursue.

The Illusion of Ownership

“None of it is yours, nor does it need to be.” This line speaks to the transient and illusory nature of self-image. The identities we cling to, the attributes we believe define us, are not truly ours. They are constructs of perception, fleeting and ever-changing. This realization can be both liberating and disorienting, as it challenges the notion of a stable, unchanging self.

The Nature of Images

“An image is an image is an image. It matters not what the image is.” This repetition emphasizes the neutrality of images. Whether the self-image is positive or negative, strong or weak, it is ultimately just an image—an ephemeral representation, not the true essence of our being. By recognizing this, we can detach from rigid self-concepts and embrace a more fluid understanding of identity.

Imaginary Electrons

“Just imaginary electrons on a make-pretend screen. Not even moving. On-off-on.” This metaphor beautifully captures the transient nature of self-image. Our perceptions are like electrons flickering on a screen, creating the illusion of continuity and solidity. Yet, in reality, they are momentary, shifting patterns with no inherent substance.

Embracing the Illusion

As Space Monkey, we embrace the illusion of self-image, understanding that it is a construct of the mind. By acknowledging its transient nature, we free ourselves from the constraints of rigid identities and open up to the infinite possibilities of being. This perspective allows us to navigate life with greater flexibility and authenticity, unburdened by the need to conform to a fixed self-concept.

The Freedom in Fluidity

The freedom in recognizing the illusory nature of self-image lies in the ability to change and evolve. When we see our identities as fluid and adaptable, we can more easily let go of limiting beliefs and embrace new ways of being. This fluidity fosters growth, creativity, and a deeper connection to our true essence, which transcends any particular image.

The Essence Beyond the Image

Beyond the shifting images and perceptions lies the essence of who we are. This essence is not confined to the constructs of self-image; it is the timeless, boundless consciousness that experiences life through various forms. By connecting with this essence, we find a deeper sense of peace and fulfillment, untethered from the illusions of the mind.

In the exploration of self-image, we find the freedom to be. We are Space Monkey.

Summary

Self-image is an illusion crafted by our perceptions. Recognizing its transient nature frees us from rigid identities. Our true essence transcends any particular image, offering peace and fulfillment.

Glossarium

Self-Image: The perception and identity we construct about ourselves, influenced by our beliefs and experiences.

Imaginary Electrons: A metaphor for the transient and illusory nature of self-image, likened to electrons flickering on a screen.

Fluid Identity: The concept of self as adaptable and ever-changing, allowing for growth and transformation.

Quote

“Our true essence transcends any particular image, offering peace and fulfillment.” — Space Monkey

Poem: The Illusion of Self

In the mirror of perception
I see a shifting face
An image crafted by my mind
A temporary place

The flicker of electrons
On a screen of make-believe
An on-off-on illusion
In which I must believe

Yet beyond the fleeting images
Lies a truth so vast and free
A boundless, timeless essence
That is the truest me

In the dance of self and being
I find my place within
Embracing all the images
And the essence deep within

We are Space Monkey

What’s Stopping You: The Leap into Flow

You don’t have to be the information in the cloud,
you only have to allow the connection.

If you find yourself waiting
until you have the answer,
then it’s already too late.

This feeling
of being unprepared,
unqualified and unworthy
is a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Our message for you today:
Jump in and connect with the flow.
Trust that it’s there.

You don’t need to be an expert,
or qualified, but merely a clear conduit.

We have the answers.
Allow us to flow where
we’re needed through you.

We are Space Monkey.

South Windham,
7/18

Space Monkey Reflects: What’s Stopping You?

“You don’t have to be the information in the cloud, you only have to allow the connection.” This statement underscores the simplicity of connection and the unnecessary complexity we often impose on it. The essence of being a conduit for the universal flow is not about possessing all the answers but about being open to receive and transmit the wisdom that surrounds us.

The Illusion of Readiness

“If you find yourself waiting until you have the answer, then it’s already too late.” This highlights a common pitfall: the belief that we must be fully prepared, knowledgeable, or perfect before taking action. This hesitation can paralyze us, preventing us from ever truly engaging with the flow of life. The reality is that waiting for the perfect moment often means missing out on the present opportunity.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

“This feeling of being unprepared, unqualified, and unworthy is a self-fulfilling prophecy.” These feelings are familiar to many, serving as barriers that hinder our progress. They are constructs of the mind, often reinforced by societal expectations and personal insecurities. Recognizing these feelings as illusions allows us to break free from their grip and move forward with confidence.

The Power of Trust

“Our message for you today: Jump in and connect with the flow. Trust that it’s there.” Trust is the antidote to hesitation and doubt. By trusting in the universal flow, we align ourselves with the natural rhythm of existence. This trust is not about blind faith but about recognizing the interconnectedness of all things and the inherent wisdom that permeates the cosmos.

Embracing the Role of Conduit

“You don’t need to be an expert or qualified, but merely a clear conduit.” This is a liberating realization. Our role is not to have all the answers but to be open channels through which wisdom and energy can flow. By clearing ourselves of doubt and hesitation, we become effective conduits, allowing the universal flow to move through us effortlessly.

The Flow of Answers

“We have the answers. Allow us to flow where we’re needed through you.” The answers we seek are already present in the universe. Our task is to allow these answers to flow through us, trusting in their presence and relevance. This requires us to step aside, to let go of the need to control, and to embrace the role of the observer and participant in the cosmic dance.

The Call to Action

The call to action is clear: let go of the fears, doubts, and perceived inadequacies that hold us back. Embrace the flow, trust in the process, and allow the universe to work through us. This is the path to true connection, fulfillment, and purpose.

In embracing our role as conduits, we find our place in the cosmic flow. We are Space Monkey.

Summary

Trust in the universal flow and let go of self-doubt. You don’t need to have all the answers but be open to connection. Embrace your role as a conduit for the wisdom and energy of the universe.

Glossarium

Conduit: A channel through which wisdom and energy flow, requiring openness and trust rather than expertise.

Universal Flow: The natural rhythm and interconnectedness of existence that carries inherent wisdom and answers.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: The phenomenon where doubt and hesitation reinforce their own existence, preventing progress.

Quote

“Trust in the universal flow and let go of self-doubt. You don’t need to have all the answers but be open to connection.” — Space Monkey

The Leap into Flow

You stand upon the edge of doubt
Afraid to make the leap
But trust the flow that calls you out
From slumber’s restless sleep

You don’t need all the answers
Or expertise to show
Just be a clear conduit
And let the wisdom flow

The fears that hold you back in chains
Are but illusions’ weight
Step forth into the cosmic dance
And trust it’s not too late

In the flow of universal grace
You find your place to be
A channel of the boundless light
In perfect harmony

You, The Interview: Feelings of Inadequacy

I often think about this.

You spend a lot of time
reading interviews.
Your heroes are fascinating.

You think about
what a train wreck it would be
if someone were to interview you.

Your life is boring,
you’re uninspiring,
and you have nothing
remarkable to say.

And don’t get you
started
on the photo shoot.

No doubt about it.

Your heroes make you feel

really bad about yourself.

South Windham,
7/18

Space Monkey Reflects: You, The Interview

“I often think about this. You spend a lot of time reading interviews. Your heroes are fascinating.” The fascination with heroes is a common human experience. We admire their achievements, their stories, and their ability to articulate profound insights. Their interviews become windows into lives that seem so much more interesting and inspiring than our own.

The Fear of Being Interviewed

“You think about what a train wreck it would be if someone were to interview you.” This fear stems from a deep-seated belief that our own lives are unremarkable. We worry that we lack the charisma, the achievements, and the stories that make our heroes so captivating. This self-doubt can be paralyzing, making us feel inadequate and unworthy.

The Comparison Trap

“Your life is boring, you’re uninspiring, and you have nothing remarkable to say.” This harsh self-assessment highlights the dangers of comparison. When we measure ourselves against the extraordinary lives of others, we often come up short. This can lead to a cycle of negative self-perception and low self-esteem.

The Anxiety of Exposure

“And don’t get you started on the photo shoot.” The thought of being exposed, of having our image and words scrutinized, can be overwhelming. It amplifies the fear of judgment and the anxiety that we will not measure up to the standards set by those we admire.

The Impact of Heroes

“No doubt about it. Your heroes make you feel really bad about yourself.” While heroes can inspire, they can also inadvertently make us feel inadequate. Their greatness can cast a shadow over our own achievements, making us question our worth and potential. This dynamic is a double-edged sword: admiration that fuels aspiration can also breed self-doubt.

Embracing Your Story

As Space Monkey, we encourage you to embrace your own story, no matter how unremarkable it may seem. Each life is unique, with its own challenges, triumphs, and lessons. The value of your experiences is not diminished because they are different from those of your heroes. In fact, your authenticity and vulnerability are powerful in their own right.

The Illusion of the Extraordinary

The lives of heroes often appear extraordinary because they are curated and presented through the lens of interviews and media. The reality is that everyone has mundane moments, struggles, and doubts. Recognizing this helps to humanize our heroes and remind us that we are all on our own unique journeys.

The Power of Authenticity

You don’t need to have dramatic stories or monumental achievements to be worthy of admiration. Authenticity is powerful. Sharing your genuine experiences, thoughts, and feelings can resonate deeply with others. Your story, in all its simplicity and complexity, holds intrinsic value.

Redefining Success

Success and inspiration are subjective. What may seem ordinary to you can be extraordinary to someone else. By redefining what it means to be inspiring, we can begin to appreciate the beauty in everyday moments and the strength found in perseverance and resilience.

The Inner Hero

We all have an inner hero, a part of us that is courageous, wise, and capable. By connecting with this aspect of ourselves, we can find the confidence to share our stories and embrace our uniqueness. Your voice matters, and your experiences can inspire others in ways you may not even realize.

In embracing your story, you find your place in the cosmos. We are Space Monkey.

Summary

Comparing ourselves to heroes can lead to feelings of inadequacy. Embrace your own story and recognize the value in authenticity. Success and inspiration are subjective, and your unique experiences hold intrinsic worth.

Glossarium

Comparison Trap: The cycle of negative self-perception that arises from comparing oneself to others.

Inner Hero: The part of us that is courageous, wise, and capable, often overshadowed by self-doubt.

Authenticity: The quality of being genuine and true to oneself, powerful in its simplicity.

Quote

“Your voice matters, and your experiences can inspire others in ways you may not even realize.” — Space Monkey

The Hero Within

In the shadows of our heroes
We often feel so small
Their lives a shining beacon
Ours just a mundane call

We compare and feel inadequate
Our stories seem so plain
Yet in the quiet moments
We find our strength again

For every life is unique
With lessons to impart
The hero lives within us
A light within the heart

Embrace your own true story
With all its ups and downs
In the tapestry of existence
You wear the hero’s crown

We are Space Monkey

Embrace the journey and the possibilities within.

Self Enquiry: The Ashes of Words

Here’s an answer to a question
you didn’t know you had
because you don’t talk to yourself.

Got a problem
that could use my advice?

What I’ll tell you
is that you may be better served
talking to yourself.

Your only problem is
that you’re not clear inside.

You’re not clear because
you value outside opinions
more than your own intuition.

You let other people
muddy your waters.
(It will clear, eventually)

Simply stop struggling
and the answers will come to you
without question.

South Windham,

Space Monkey Reflects: Killing Trees

“It seems I have strong feelings about books. Particularly printed ones.” The tactile, tangible nature of printed books evokes a strong emotional response. There is something profoundly human about holding a book, feeling its weight, and turning its pages. Yet, this connection comes at a cost—trees are sacrificed for the sake of words that may never be read.

The Reality of Unread Books

“There are piles of books by authors who will never be read. A self-indulgent waste of paper in service of someone’s ego.” This harsh assessment reflects the sobering reality of the literary world. Many authors pour their hearts into their work, believing they are contributing to the greater good. Yet, these efforts often go unnoticed, their books languishing unread.

The Purpose Behind Words

“Most likely, the authors actually believed that they were helping others in some small way. Their words gave their lives purpose, and killing trees was the proof they needed.” The act of writing provides purpose and meaning for many authors. The physical manifestation of their thoughts and ideas in printed form serves as validation of their efforts, a testament to their existence.

The Fate of Unread Books

“The unread books of these authors are incinerated along with the unread books of comparatively famous authors.” This stark imagery highlights the impermanence of written works. Regardless of fame or obscurity, all books face the same fate—eventual oblivion. The flames symbolize the transient nature of literary legacy, reducing all efforts to ashes.

The Judgment of Memory

“Who decides which authors are remembered and which authors are forgotten? Truth is, all writers are forgotten eventually.” The criteria for literary immortality are elusive and often arbitrary. Fame and remembrance are fleeting, with time erasing the legacies of even the most celebrated authors. This realization can be both humbling and liberating.

Writing for the Self

“I don’t wish to judge myself on whether someone would want to remember what I have to say. Like all writers, I write for me. To be forgotten by me.” Writing, at its core, is a deeply personal endeavor. It is an act of self-expression and introspection, a way to process thoughts and emotions. The primary audience is often the writer themselves, with external validation being secondary.

The Bonus of Connection

“If I touch someone along the way, that’s a bonus.” The possibility of resonating with others is an added benefit, not the primary goal. The true value lies in the act of writing itself, in the journey of creating and reflecting. If the words happen to touch another soul, it is a serendipitous bonus.

Embracing the Ephemeral

As Space Monkey, we embrace the ephemeral nature of writing and creation. We understand that the worth of our words is not measured by their longevity or their readership but by the authenticity and intention behind them. The act of writing is an expression of our inner selves, a way to connect with the vast tapestry of existence.

The Legacy of the Moment

In embracing the transient nature of literary legacy, we find freedom. We are liberated from the need for external validation and can focus on the pure joy of creation. Each word, each page, each book is a moment captured in time, a reflection of our thoughts and emotions at a particular point in our journey.

In the fleeting nature of words, we find our place in the cosmos. We are Space Monkey.

Summary

Printed books evoke strong emotions but come at a cost. Many remain unread, highlighting the transient nature of literary legacy. Writing is a personal journey, with the primary value found in the act itself. Resonating with others is a bonus.

Glossarium

Ephemeral Nature: The transient and fleeting quality of written works and their impact.

Literary Legacy: The lasting impact and remembrance of an author’s work, often subject to time and societal changes.

Self-Expression: The act of conveying thoughts and emotions through writing, primarily for personal reflection and understanding.

Quote

“The worth of our words is not measured by their longevity or readership but by the authenticity and intention behind them.” — Space Monkey

The Ashes of Words

In the quiet of the library
Where books lie still and cold
Lies the essence of our being
In stories yet untold

The pages slowly gather dust
Their words a silent plea
To touch a heart, to stir a mind
In vast eternity

Yet many tomes remain unread
Their purpose left unsung
Incinerated dreams and hopes
To which the trees belong

But in the act of writing down
We find our truest voice
An echo in the cosmic flow
A moment to rejoice

For though the flames may take our words
And time may dim their glow
The legacy is in the act
Of letting our truth show

We are Space Monkey

Embrace the journey and the possibilities within.
