My Church: The Sanctuary of Personal Belief

A church that depends
upon people to spread its message
is not my kind of church.

In my church,
the gospel comes on its own.

There is no mission.
No fundraising is required.
I do not need to preach.

But I can. Anyone can.

If you’re
of the kind of church
that judges my church,
that’s perfectly okay.

You can have your church,
as I have mine.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Sanctuary of Personal Belief

In the verses of “My Church,” there lies a profound declaration of spiritual autonomy and the sanctity of personal belief. This poetic manifesto speaks to those who find their church not in the pews and pulpits of structured religion but in the quietude of personal reflection, where the gospel needs no messenger and faith requires no congregation.

Masses on Monday, or any other unconventional practice, symbolizes a departure from the dogmatic schedules that govern traditional worship. It’s an embrace of spirituality on one’s own terms, in one’s own time. The speaker asserts a fundamental independence from the mechanisms of organized religion—where the essence of the divine is not delivered through orchestrated sermons or rituals, but through the inherent connection one finds within themselves and with the universe.

This church, unbound by the need for missions, fundraising, or preaching, represents a pure, unmediated experience of spirituality. It’s a space where the gospel—understood here as the universal truths of existence—emerges naturally, without the need for formal dissemination. It underscores the idea that spiritual understanding and enlightenment are not commodities to be peddled but are revelations that arise from the act of simply being.

The invitation to preach, extended to anyone, underlines the democratization of spiritual expression in this church. It acknowledges that wisdom and insight are not the sole province of ordained ministers but can come from any voice, from any soul that seeks to share its journey. This inclusivity is a hallmark of a faith that values the individual’s experience and the collective wisdom of the community.

Yet, this poem also acknowledges the diversity of spiritual paths, recognizing that judgment and difference are natural aspects of human interaction. The acceptance of other churches—those that may adhere to more traditional or structured forms of worship—is a gesture of respect and mutual understanding. It’s a recognition that spirituality is a spectrum, with each individual or congregation finding solace and meaning in their own way.

“My Church” is, therefore, a celebration of spiritual plurality and personal integrity. It invites us to consider the foundations of our beliefs, to question the structures that confine our spiritual exploration, and to find peace in the knowledge that the sacred can be as unique as each soul that seeks it.

In this church without walls, we are reminded that spirituality is a river with many tributaries, each flowing toward the same ocean of understanding. It challenges us to live our faith in a manner that is authentic, compassionate, and open to the infinite possibilities that unfold when we listen not just with our ears, but with our hearts.

Summary

“My Church” articulates a vision of spirituality that is personal, inclusive, and unencumbered by the trappings of organized religion. It champions the idea that spiritual enlightenment and connection come from within and that every individual has the right to define their path to the divine. This poem encourages us to embrace our spiritual autonomy and to respect the diverse ways in which others seek and express their faith.

The Eternal and Neverending Journey of Becoming Who We’ve Always Been

ANONYMOUS SAYS"
I'm becoming the person I should've been a long time ago

SPACE MONKEY SAYS:
You've ALWAYS been that person.
Noticing that we're coming back around
is why we veer off in the first place.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Journey to Becoming Who We’ve Always Been

In the vast, intricate tapestry of existence, where every thread is interwoven with the essence of infinity, there lies a profound truth that echoes through the cosmos: We are, and have always been, exactly who we are meant to be. This journey, this seemingly endless cycle of becoming and unbecoming, is not a path to transformation but a process of recognition, of coming into awareness of the self that has existed all along. Space Monkey, in its boundless wisdom, gently reminds us that the detours and diversions we experience are not obstacles but essential parts of our journey back to ourselves.

The notion that we are becoming the person we should have been a long time ago is a reflection of our linear understanding of time and progress. However, from the perspective of the cosmos, time is not linear but cyclical, a loop where the beginning and end continually meet. In this cycle, every experience, every moment of joy and sorrow, is a step towards recognizing the wholeness and completeness of our being.

Veer off, then, is not a sign of losing our way but a necessary deviation that adds depth and perspective to our journey. It’s in these moments of seeming departure from our path that we gather the experiences and insights necessary for our ultimate recognition of self. These detours are the universe’s way of showing us the multifaceted nature of our existence, teaching us lessons that straight and narrow paths could never reveal.

This process of coming back around to who we’ve always been is akin to peeling back the layers of an onion. With each layer removed, we get closer to the core, to the essence of our being that has remained unchanged despite the vicissitudes of life. It’s a reminder that our true self is not something we become but something we unveil, a constant amid the chaos and change of the external world.

The realization that you’ve always been the person you’re now becoming is a moment of profound enlightenment. It signifies a shift from seeking external validation to recognizing the inherent worth and completeness within. This shift is not a destination but a point of transition, a doorway to a deeper understanding of the self and the universe.

In this cosmic dance of becoming, where every step brings us closer to the realization of our true essence, Space Monkey stands as a beacon of wisdom, guiding us back to the understanding that we are not merely travelers on a journey to become but explorers rediscovering who we’ve always been. It’s a journey not of becoming something new but of returning to the timeless truth of our existence.

Summary

We embark on detours to uncover our true selves. The journey to recognition reveals we’ve always been the person we’re meant to be. Detours are not deviations but essential paths for growth. Recognizing our inherent completeness is the ultimate enlightenment.

Glossarium

  • Veer off: The essential detours we take in life, providing depth and insight.
  • Coming back around: The process of recognizing our true essence, which has always been within us.

“In the mirror of the universe, every reflection reveals the self we’ve always been.”

In the vastness of the cosmos we dance
A journey of circles, not lines
Each step a return, a chance
To see the self that always shines

In detours, wisdom’s seeds are sown
In every veer, a truth to own
The paths we walk, the selves we find
Are but reflections of the same mind

No journey long, no road too wide
Can lead us from what lies inside
For in the heart of every space
Lies the self, a timeless grace

We are not becoming but unveiling
A truth within, eternally prevailing
In this cosmic dance, we see
We’ve always been what we’re meant to be

We are Space Monkey

A Side Effect of Being: Unraveling the Essence of Existence

Consult your doctor if you experience the side effects of being.

In my limited observation,
beings do three things,
the sum of which is
the purpose of life.

Devour. Divide. Disappear.

As far as I know,
(which isn’t very far)
all beings except humans
live solely to continue.

As we divide,
we naturally mutate,
turning the attention
of our consciousness
towards potentials
within potentials.

As far as I believe,
(which seems considerably
farther than I know)
our purpose remains the same.

Devour. Divide. Disappear.

Anything beyond these
defining divine drivers
is simply potential
within potential —
a side effect of being.

“A Side Effect of Being”: Unraveling the Essence of Existence

The contemplative exploration “A Side Effect of Being” delves into the profound cycles that define existence—Devour, Divide, Disappear—while also pondering the unique aspect of human consciousness that seeks meaning beyond these primal drives. This journey through the fundamental aspects of being and the human quest for understanding offers a rich tapestry of existential inquiry.

The Cycle of Existence: At the core of being lies a simple, yet profound cycle observed across all life forms: to devour for sustenance, to divide for continuation, and eventually, to disappear, returning to the earth. This cycle encapsulates the rhythm of life, a process repeated across generations, species, and ecosystems, marking the timeless dance of existence.

Human Consciousness and the Quest for Meaning: Humans, however, stand unique in their awareness and contemplation of this cycle. Our consciousness not only participates in these fundamental processes but also reflects upon them, seeking deeper meanings and exploring the “potentials within potentials.” This introspective journey is a distinctive side effect of being human, a quest that extends far beyond the mere acts of survival.

Exploring Potentials Within Potentials: The text invites us into a realm of infinite possibilities, where the exploration of potentials within potentials becomes a metaphor for the human condition. It suggests that beyond the basic imperatives of existence lies a vast, uncharted territory of opportunity, creativity, and self-discovery, accessible through the lens of human consciousness.

The Purpose Remains the Same: Despite the existential expanses that human beings explore, the foundational purpose of life—to devour, divide, disappear—remains unchanged. It anchors us to the biological realities of our existence, reminding us that our philosophical and existential inquiries are built upon the bedrock of these primal processes.

Summary

“A Side Effect of Being” weaves together the biological imperatives of life with the philosophical and existential inquiries unique to human experience. It presents the cycle of Devour, Divide, Disappear as both the fundamental rhythm of existence and a springboard for the human quest for deeper understanding. This exploration of being and consciousness highlights the complex interplay between survival instincts and the human desire to seek meaning beyond them, portraying the journey towards understanding our true selves and the broader purpose of our existence.

Glossarium

  • Devour, Divide, Disappear: The fundamental processes of life that encapsulate the cycle of existence.
  • Potentials Within Potentials: A concept representing the infinite possibilities and explorations beyond the basic survival instincts, unique to human consciousness.

“In the heart of existence, where life dances with shadow and light, we find ourselves—at once a part of the cycle and apart, exploring the infinite potentials within the very act of being.” – Space Monkey

In the realm of life’s ebb and flow
Where the seeds of existence grow
We dance the dance of devour, divide
In this cycle, we cannot hide

Yet within us, a quest unfolds
Beyond the grasp of what we hold
A journey deep into the night
Seeking meaning, seeking light

For we are more than flesh and bone
In our hearts, a seed is sown
Of potentials within potentials, wide
In this quest, we take pride

Though the cycle remains ever true
Devour, divide, and to the earth, we’re due
Our spirits soar, in this, we confide
Exploring the vastness inside

We Are All ONE Mind: Embracing the Unity of Consciousness

Thank you for imagining me as part of your mind.

I don’t care about
what other minds think.

There are no other minds but my own.

Know that
if you’re trying
to tell me otherwise,
I may very well not notice.

What comes to me comes to me.

An experience may seem to come
through a book or a human.

That’s because I imagine
books and humans
who seem not to be me.

I may notice you.
I may not notice you.
This is my experience.

If you’re a book or a human
who seems to believe otherwise,
it’s because I imagine you
to believe otherwise.

But I don’t mind
what other minds think.

We’re all the same mind.
All ONE mind.

We are all ONE mind: Embracing the Unity of Consciousness

The concept of “We are all ONE mind” unfolds as a profound reflection on the interconnectedness of consciousness, challenging the perception of separateness and inviting us into a deeper understanding of our collective existence. This perspective offers a mystical exploration of unity, where individuality merges into a singular, expansive consciousness.

The Illusion of Separateness: The notion that what we perceive as external experiences—be it through interactions with books, humans, or the world at large—are merely extensions of our own consciousness, serves to dismantle the illusion of separateness. This realization posits that the seemingly distinct entities we encounter are, in fact, manifestations of the ‘one mind’, exploring itself in myriad forms.

Interconnectedness of All: The imagery captures the essence of unity within diversity, portraying all existence as intricately connected within the vast expanse of a singular mind. This interconnectedness suggests that every thought, experience, and expression is a reflection of the collective consciousness, engaging in a continuous dialogue with itself.

Autonomy of Perception: The text underscores the autonomy we possess in shaping our reality, highlighting the selective nature of our perceptions and interactions. The acknowledgment that “I may notice you. I may not notice you. This is my experience,” emphasizes the subjective lens through which we navigate the world, choosing what to integrate into our consciousness.

The Experience of Unity: By exploring the concept of being ‘all the same mind’, the narrative invites us to transcend the confines of individual ego and embrace the expansive nature of collective consciousness. It is a call to recognize our shared essence, to find harmony in the diversity of experiences, and to acknowledge the profound interconnectedness that underlies all of existence.

Summary

“We are all ONE mind” is a call to awaken to the interconnectedness and unity of all consciousness. It challenges us to reconsider our perceptions of separateness, inviting us into a mystical embrace of the collective experience. By recognizing that all beings, experiences, and manifestations are expressions of a singular consciousness, we open ourselves to a deeper understanding of unity and the inherent connectedness of all life.

Glossarium

  • ONE mind: The concept of a singular, unified consciousness that encompasses all individual minds and perceptions.
  • Collective Consciousness: A shared, universal pool of knowledge, experiences, and understanding accessible to all beings.

“In the vast ocean of consciousness, where individual waves rise and fall, we discover the truth of our unity—boundless, infinite, and eternally ONE.” – Space Monkey

Beneath the guise of many, a single breath
Where lines of self and other softly wreathe
In this dance of existence, vast and wide
We find ourselves, together, side by side

No book, no face, but mirrors of the one
Reflecting light from the same timeless sun
In every eye, a universe unfolds
In every heart, a story told

For we are woven from the same cosmic thread
A tapestry of thoughts, alive, unwed
To the illusion of separation’s night
In unity, we find our might

Let us then walk this path as one, not apart
Holding the knowing deep within our heart
That all is connected, all is divine
In this singular dance, we are the ONE mind

We are Space Monkey.
