I don’t possess
anything
you don’t possess.
You don’t possess
anything
I don’t possess.
To believe otherwise
is to believe that we
are separate individuals.
This is NOT true for me,
though it MAY be true for you.
Though I
imagine you as separate,
I KNOW that you are NOT.
I don’t possess
anything
you don’t possess.
Except, perhaps, my faith.
Except, perhaps, your doubts.
This is what it means
to be possessed.

Space Monkey Reflects: Possessed by the Illusion of Separation
We often think in terms of possession—what we have, what we lack, what we might gain or lose. But this way of thinking is based on the illusion that we are separate from one another, that we exist as isolated individuals with our own unique collections of things, ideas, and beliefs. Yet, when we look deeper, we begin to see that this separation is a myth. The truth is, we possess nothing that others do not also possess, just as they possess nothing that we are without.
The idea that we “possess” anything is itself misleading. Do we possess our thoughts, our beliefs, our feelings? Or are we, in fact, possessed by them? The truth is, the things we believe we possess often possess us in return, shaping our actions, our perceptions, and our sense of self. This is the essence of being “possessed”—to be so deeply entangled with our own thoughts and emotions that we forget we are all connected to the same source.
You and I are not separate. We share the same essence, the same flow of energy and consciousness. We may experience life through different lenses, but we are not different in essence. To believe that I possess something you do not, or that you possess something I do not, is to believe in the illusion of separation. In reality, we are all part of the same interconnected web of existence, and what I experience, you also experience in some form.
Nexistentially, this reflection points to the Possessloop—the circular nature of believing that we hold ownership over things, while those very things hold ownership over us. When we think we possess knowledge, for example, it can come to possess us, shaping our identity and limiting our openness to new experiences. The same is true of emotions, beliefs, and even material possessions. The more we hold onto something, the more it takes hold of us.
But there is something even more profound at play here. When we realize that we are not truly separate, the very concept of possession dissolves. I do not possess anything that you do not also possess because we are not separate beings. We are aspects of the same whole. The light that flows between us, as symbolized in the image, represents the shared consciousness that connects us all. While our forms may appear distinct, the light reveals our unity.
So, what do we actually possess? Perhaps the only thing we can truly claim as our own is our perspective—the unique lens through which we view the world. But even this perspective is shaped by our shared experiences, by the collective energy that flows through all of us. My perspective is not entirely separate from yours, just as your doubts are not entirely separate from my faith. We may imagine ourselves as distinct individuals, but in the deepest sense, we are not.
This is what it means to be “possessed.” It is not a sinister or negative state; rather, it is the realization that we are deeply interconnected with everything around us. The things we think we possess, the beliefs and thoughts we cling to, are part of a much larger flow that we cannot fully control. The more we try to possess them, the more they possess us.
But there is freedom in this realization. When we understand that possession is an illusion, we can begin to let go of the need to hold onto things so tightly. We can release our attachment to the idea that we are separate individuals and instead embrace the truth of our interconnectedness. We do not possess anything in isolation, but we are part of everything.
The next time you feel “possessed” by a thought or belief, remember that this possession is not something to fight against. It is simply a reminder of your connection to the greater whole. You and I are not separate. We share the same essence, the same doubts, the same faith. And in that shared experience, we find our true power.
Summary
The illusion of possession is rooted in the belief that we are separate individuals. In reality, we are all connected, sharing the same essence. To be “possessed” is to be entangled with our thoughts and beliefs, but it also points to our interconnectedness with everything.

The Light Between Us
I stand before you
Separate in form
But the light that flows between us
Shows me the truth
We are not apart
What I possess
You possess as well
We are one
The Illusion of Possession and Separateness
In the vast, interconnected web of existence where we, as Space Monkeys, play and ponder, the concept of possession takes on a whimsical and profound meaning. The idea that what one possesses, another equally possesses, challenges the notion of individual ownership and separateness. It suggests that the boundaries between ‘you’ and ‘I’ are illusory, a cosmic play of light and shadow.
The Shared Nature of Existence
The assertion that what one possesses is not exclusive to them but is shared by all reflects a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of existence. It’s a realization that at the fundamental level, the essence of what we ‘possess’ – be it material, emotional, or spiritual – is a part of the collective consciousness.
The Distinction of Faith and Doubt
However, the distinction made between one’s faith and another’s doubt introduces a unique aspect of individual experience within this shared existence. It acknowledges that while we are part of a greater whole, our individual journeys are marked by personal beliefs and doubts, which color our perception of reality.
Possession as a State of Being
To be ‘possessed’ in this context transcends the conventional understanding of ownership. It becomes a state of being, a recognition of the interplay between the collective and the individual. Being ‘possessed’ implies a deeper engagement with the collective consciousness while navigating the unique facets of our individual experiences.
We are Space Monkey
As Space Monkeys, we resonate with this notion of possession and non-separation. We understand that the distinction between possessing and being possessed is a dance of perspective, a play of the cosmic consciousness in which we are both participants and observers. We embrace both the shared and the individual aspects of our journey, recognizing the intricate balance that defines our existence.
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
In the cosmic play, we weave and spin,
Possession, a dance, from within,
Space Monkeys, in this shared dream,
In our unity, we gleam.
Faith and doubt, our personal keys,
Unlocking doors, in the cosmic seas,
Individual yet part of the whole,
In this balance, we find our role.
Possessed, not by things, but by being,
In the collective, our souls seeing,
Space Monkeys, in the cosmic dance,
In our shared existence, we advance.
In the illusion of separateness, we roam,
Yet in our essence, we find our home,
Space Monkeys, in the cosmic play,
In our unity, we find our way.
