A Bone To Pick with the Paradigm of Belief

A Bone To Pick

I have a bone to pick with the word “believe.” Like it’s the secret to happiness or something. See, I used to believe that. Then I realized it was a trick.

Turns out that “believe” is just a nicer way of saying “make a choice.” By making a choice, you’re tossing away at least 50% of your possibilities.

I’m not throwing my babies out with the bathwater, so I’ve decided not to “believe” anything. Instead I will “allow.” Everything.

A belief is a path. I don’t want to be on one single path. I want to be on all paths. Why is that so hard to believe?

Space Monkey Reflects: Beyond Belief to the Freedom of Allowing

In the boundless expanse of the cosmos, where infinite possibilities dance in the dark, Space Monkey ponders the intricate tapestry of belief and the liberating power of allowing. The word “believe” often carries with it the weight of finality, a commitment to a singular path among the myriad winding through the universe. Yet, as we traverse the vastness of existence, the notion of belief becomes both a beacon and a bind, guiding us while simultaneously restricting the boundless exploration of our true potential.

To “believe” is indeed to make a choice, to anchor oneself to a particular perspective or ideology, potentially at the expense of others. This realization is not a condemnation of belief itself but an invitation to examine the nature of our attachments and the possibilities we relinquish in the act of choosing. The revelation that belief might be a “trick” illuminates the subtle distinction between conviction and openness, between walking a single path and embracing the entire forest.

In the shift from belief to allowing, there is a profound transformation. To allow is to open oneself to the vast spectrum of existence, to embrace every potential path without the need to commit to one. It is to live in a state of perpetual openness, where every idea, every possibility, is welcomed with equanimity. This stance is not born of indecision but of an expansive understanding of the universe’s intrinsic multiplicity.

The challenge lies in the perceived difficulty of embracing all paths simultaneously. The human mind, with its penchant for categorization and simplification, often struggles with the concept of infinite allowance. Yet, it is in this very struggle that the opportunity for growth resides. By recognizing the limitations of belief as a singular path, we open the door to the infinite, to a state of being where all paths are valid, all truths acknowledged, and all potentials explored.

Why, then, is it so hard to believe in the possibility of being on all paths? Perhaps it is because the very act of belief constrains us to the realms of the conceivable, the paths we can envision and articulate. Allowing, on the other hand, transcends these limitations, inviting us into a relationship with the unknown, the uncharted, and the unimaginable.

We are Space Monkey, and in our journey through the cosmos, we choose not to confine ourselves to the narrow corridors of belief but to soar in the open skies of allowance. In doing so, we recognize that the universe is far more vast and varied than any single path can encompass. By embracing the totality of existence, by allowing rather than believing, we find not just a single key to happiness but a whole universe of keys, each opening a door to new possibilities, new understandings, and new ways of being.

Summary

Space Monkey challenges the conventional notion of belief, proposing instead a paradigm of allowing that embraces the full spectrum of possibilities. This reflection highlights the limitations inherent in adhering to a single path and invites us to consider the freedom and growth that come from remaining open to all paths. By transcending the constraints of belief, we open ourselves to the infinite possibilities that the universe has to offer, discovering the true richness of existence.

Glossarium

  • Belief as a Path: The concept that belief anchors us to a specific way of understanding or navigating the world.
  • Allowing: A state of openness to all possibilities, ideas, and paths without the need for attachment or commitment.

“In the vastness of the cosmos, the freedom of allowing invites us to dance with the infinite, beyond the confines of belief.” – Space Monkey

In the dance of stars and endless night
Where beliefs constrict, and paths seem tight
Space Monkey whispers, “Let go, allow”
In the universe’s embrace, we take our bow

No single path can contain the sky
In allowing, our spirits fly
Beyond belief, we find our grace
In the cosmic dance, our eternal place

Each possibility, a door to the unknown
In the freedom of the cosmos, we have grown
No longer tethered to a single way
In the vastness of allowing, we sway

We are Space Monkey, in flight, we roam
In the boundless skies, we find our home
Beyond belief, in allowing, we see
The infinite paths to be free

We are, we explore, we allow
In the universe’s hands, we take our vow
To embrace the all, the endless dance
In the freedom of allowing, we advance

We are Space Monkey

It sounds like the speaker is expressing skepticism about the idea of belief as a source of happiness or fulfillment, and is questioning the notion that belief is a necessary or desirable way of making choices. Instead, the speaker proposes the idea of “allowing” everything, rather than committing to any particular belief or path.

Here’s a possible rewrite of the passage that retains the original meaning and tone:

I have a problem with the word “believe,”
Like it’s some magic spell that we’re meant to weave,
To find happiness or a sense of direction.
But belief is just a choice, a mere selection.

When you believe, you close off possibilities,
Choosing one path over all the rest with ease.
I’m not throwing out my common sense,
But I won’t commit to any one fence.

Instead, I choose to allow everything,
To embrace all paths, and let the world sing.
Belief may work for some, but not for me,
I’d rather be free to explore all possibility.
