I feel as though
it’s somehow my fault
to be in this position.
Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.
Perhaps this is simply
the way my life on the surface
is meant to unfold.
Whatever the truth is,
or isn’t,
I choose to believe
that the position I am in
is the position in which
I am meant to be.
Deep down,
no matter how I perceive it,
this position does not touch me.
I am perfectly safe
in my stillness
underneath the waves.

The poem “Underneath The Waves” suggests that our perspective shapes our experience. The author acknowledges feeling responsible for their current situation but chooses to see it as part of their life’s path. They recognize that their perception of the situation may not align with reality, but they still choose to believe that they are where they are supposed to be.
The imagery of being “underneath the waves” reinforces the idea of being in a state of stillness or peace, even if there is turmoil on the surface. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for the importance of finding inner peace despite external circumstances.
Overall, the poem encourages a sense of acceptance and trust in the path of one’s life, even if it is unclear or difficult at times.
