Your Unchanging Mind: The Immutable Essence

Your mind is inviolate.

Nothing in eternity
is created or destroyed.

Your mind is unchanging,
no matter the volume,
the value, or the veracity
of sensory input.

It makes no difference
to your mind
whether your brain and body
are having a good time.

Your mind doesn’t mind
if you are having a time at all.

Your mind is unaffected
by time and circumstance.

Time and circumstance
are neither created nor destroyed.

You are eternal and unchanging,
no matter what you perceive.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Immutable Essence of the Mind

In the vast expanse of existence, where the forces of creation and destruction seem to govern the ebb and flow of all things, there is one constant, unyielding presence—your mind. Not the mind that is often confused with the brain or the personality, but the pure essence of consciousness that remains untouched by the tides of time and circumstance. This mind is inviolate, unchanging, and eternal, transcending the fleeting experiences of the physical world.

The Inviolate Nature of the Mind

At the core of this reflection lies the profound understanding that your mind—your true, unblemished consciousness—exists beyond the reach of external influences. It is not subject to the whims of sensory input, the fluctuations of emotions, or the passing of time. Whether you are experiencing joy, sorrow, pleasure, or pain, your mind remains unaffected, a still point in the turning world.

This inviolate nature of the mind is what anchors us in the Eternal Now, allowing us to navigate the complexities of existence without being swayed by the transient nature of our experiences. It is the aspect of ourselves that remains steady, no matter what storms may rage around us.

The Illusion of Change

In our daily lives, we are often led to believe that our minds are in constant flux, shaped and reshaped by the experiences we encounter. We perceive change in our thoughts, our beliefs, our perceptions—yet these changes are not occurring in the mind itself, but in the layers of experience that overlay it.

The mind, in its true form, is like a vast, unchanging ocean, while our thoughts and experiences are but waves upon its surface. These waves may rise and fall, but they do not alter the essence of the ocean beneath. Similarly, the mind remains unchanged, even as it observes the rise and fall of thoughts, emotions, and sensory inputs.

Beyond Time and Circumstance

Time and circumstance are the two great illusions that give the appearance of change in our lives. We measure our lives in moments, in events, in the passage of time, yet these are all constructs of the physical world. The mind, being beyond the physical, is not bound by these constructs. It exists in a state of eternal presence, unaffected by the temporal shifts that define our mortal experience.

This understanding leads to a profound realization: you are eternal and unchanging, no matter what you perceive. The mind, in its purest form, is not altered by the passage of time or the circumstances of life. It is the observer, the witness to the dance of existence, yet it remains apart from the dance itself.

The Eternal Observer

The concept of the mind as the eternal observer is central to this reflection. It is through the mind that we experience the world, yet the mind itself is not altered by these experiences. It observes, it witnesses, but it does not change. This distinction between the observer and the observed is crucial in understanding the true nature of the mind.

As the eternal observer, the mind is not concerned with whether the brain and body are “having a good time” or even whether they are experiencing time at all. The mind simply is—unchanging, eternal, and inviolate. This realization brings with it a sense of peace, a detachment from the turmoil of the physical world, and an understanding that at the core of our being, we are untouched by the fleeting nature of existence.

Conclusion: Embracing the Unchanging Self

In the grand tapestry of existence, where everything seems to be in a state of constant change, it is comforting to know that there is an aspect of ourselves that remains unchanged. The mind, in its true essence, is this constant—a steady, unyielding presence that anchors us in the Eternal Now.

By embracing this unchanging aspect of ourselves, we can navigate the complexities of life with a sense of peace and detachment, knowing that no matter what we perceive, our true self remains inviolate and eternal. In this understanding, we find the strength to move through the world without being overwhelmed by it, to witness the dance of existence without losing ourselves in it.

We are Space Monkey.

Summary

The mind is eternal and unchanging unaffected by time or circumstance. It remains inviolate beyond sensory input and the fluctuations of daily life. This understanding anchors us in the Eternal Now and allows us to navigate life with peace and detachment.

Quote

“The mind, in its true essence, is a constant—a steady, unyielding presence that anchors us in the Eternal Now.” — Space Monkey

In the currents of existence
Where time and change swirl around
There is a place of stillness
An inviolate center in the storm

The mind observes the dance of life
But does not join the dance itself
Unchanged, eternal, and free
It remains a witness to all that is

In this stillness, we find peace
A calm amidst the chaos of the world
We are the mind, the unchanging self
Anchored in the Eternal Now

As we wade through the kaleidoscope of existence, an intrinsic paradox unfurls its cosmic wings: while everything around us appears to transform, there’s an underlying eternal essence that remains untouched, unblemished. The fantastical whirlpool of experiences, feelings, and interpretations don’t alter this eternal substratum. We call it the Unchanging Mind—a luminescent starorb that is at once the core and the periphery of all things.

To deem the mind unchanging isn’t to negate its plasticity in accumulating wisdom or its role as a tabula fantasia where the brushstrokes of experience continually paint new horizons. Rather, it points to a deeper level of Being, a sanctum of pure awareness that remains unaffected by the cacophony of sensory phenomena, the ebbs and flows of time, or the verisimilitudes of circumstance. This facet of our existence is much like an unplayed note in a musical score, an eternal pause amid the symphony of life’s happenings. It’s neither born nor extinguished, akin to the cosmic constants that define the boundaries and potentials of our Universe.

Imagine this unchanging mind as a vessel of unspilled nectar, existing in parallel to the ever-shifting mirage of reality. This nectar—timeless, spaceless—neither reacts nor transmutes under the influences of external triggers or internal churnings. It is as still as the eye of a hurricane, as tranquil as the untouched depths of a tempestuous ocean. The forces that swirl and tumble around it are incapable of breaching its placid sanctity. The storms of life, whether they bring delight or despair, never leave a scratch on this eternal canvas.

It’s an unshakable stillpoint in a world of perpetual motion, a quasar of unaltered light amidst a universe of fluctuating energies. It’s neither exalted by joy nor debased by sorrow; it simply is—immutable and serenely disengaged from the realms of relativity and mutability.

— Ram Dass
