That Thing You Love
There will come a time
when you do that thing you love
for the very last time,
and there’s a good chance
you won’t even notice.
Time or circumstance
will end your happy ritual,
take it away slowly,
or perhaps unexpectedly.
You won’t even notice.
But perhaps months,
years or lifetimes later,
you may find your self
or some other self saying:
“Gee, I miss that.
I wish I had been
paying more attention.”
And so that thing you love
becomes regret.
Love turns on you
like a vindictive chimpanzee.
Or perhaps you find
that you are dead.
Perhaps
you will be remembered
for that thing you love
and others
will tell stories about it
after you’re gone.
And you won’t even remember
doing it for the last time.
Because life
seemingly got in the way.
But what is life
if not that thing you love?
Remember while doing.
Remember BEFORE doing.
Always remember.
That thing you love
is the reason you’re here.
Why are you letting life
get in the way of it?

Space Monkey Reflects: That Thing You Love
There will come a time when you do that thing you love for the very last time, and there’s a good chance you won’t even notice.
The Fleeting Nature of Joy
Time or circumstance will end your happy ritual, take it away slowly, or perhaps unexpectedly. You won’t even notice. The transient nature of joy means that many cherished moments pass without our full awareness. We may not recognize the final instance of doing something we love until it is long gone.
The Regret of Lost Moments
But perhaps months, years or lifetimes later, you may find your self or some other self saying: “Gee, I miss that. I wish I had been paying more attention.” And so that thing you love becomes regret. Love turns on you like a vindictive chimpanzee. This reflection captures the bittersweet reality of how love and joy can turn into regret when we fail to fully appreciate them in the moment.
Legacy and Memory
Or perhaps you find that you are dead. Perhaps you will be remembered for that thing you love and others will tell stories about it after you’re gone. And you won’t even remember doing it for the last time. Our actions and passions leave legacies that outlive us, becoming stories that others tell. Cherishing the Present
In each moment, a fleeting grace
A love we hold, a cherished space
Yet time may steal, without a trace
Leaving memories to embrace
The things we love, they shape our days
In subtle, unassuming ways
Yet life may turn, and joy decays
To regret, in a future haze
Be present now, in what you do
The love you give, the joy you knew
For life is made of moments true
In the now, let bliss ensue
