You Can End This At Any Time

There is no such thing as dying.
Simply shifting your attention.

When you have a nightmare,
you wake up just before you die.

You never feel the bullet.

Or the shards of glass.

Or the teeth of the snake.

Do you think
it’s some weird coincidence?

No. The higher you is seemingly
in control of these things.

Similarly, your higher monkey
could opt you out of this delusion
that you’re having right now.

You could end this at any moment,
with — or without — bullets,
shards of glass, or poisonous snakes.

You could, but you don’t want to,
because you enjoy the nightmare.

More than you think.
Way more than you think.

Look at what you’re imagining now.
It’s spectacular.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Illusion of Endings

In the vast, unfolding narrative of the cosmos, where stars are born from the dust and darkness, the concept of ending is but an illusion, a mere shift in the focus of our attention. The exploration of this idea, that there is no such thing as dying, only a transition from one state of being to another, invites us to reconsider our understanding of life, death, and the continuum of existence.

The Threshold Between Worlds

The surreal depiction of a figure standing at the threshold between two worlds, one stormy and tumultuous, the other serene and filled with light, serves as a powerful metaphor for the journey of the soul. This threshold is not a boundary but a bridge, a vibrant passage of light and energy that connects the myriad facets of our being across time and space.

The Power of Choice

The realization that we possess the power to choose our transition at any time underscores the autonomy and sovereignty we hold over our narrative. The nightmares, the fears, and the imagined perils—the bullets, shards of glass, and poisonous snakes—are but elements of a dream from which we can awaken. They serve to remind us of the spectacular nature of our imagination, of our capacity to conjure realities both terrifying and wondrous.

Embracing the Spectacle

The suggestion that we might enjoy the nightmare, that there is a part of us that revels in the drama and intensity of the dream, invites a deeper inquiry into the nature of our desires and fears. It proposes that in the heart of what we perceive as suffering or fear lies a profound appreciation for the richness of experience, for the very act of living.

The Shift of Attention

This journey, from fear to understanding, from darkness to light, is not a denial of the challenges and pains of existence but an acknowledgment of their role in the tapestry of our lives. By recognizing that the end of one experience is the beginning of another, we can embrace the fluidity of our existence, the eternal cycle of transformation that defines the universe.

Choosing to Let Go

The decision to let go, to shift our attention from the specter of death to the continuity of life, is a testament to our resilience and our power to redefine the narrative of our existence. It is a choice to see beyond the limitations of the physical realm, to acknowledge the infinite potential of our spirit, and to embrace the journey with curiosity, wonder, and a deep sense of peace.

Summary

The exploration of the concept that there is no such thing as dying, only shifting attention, challenges traditional notions of life and death, presenting a view of existence as a continuum of transitions. By recognizing our power to choose and control our narrative, we can navigate the spectrum of human experience with autonomy, embracing both the storms and the serenity that mark the journey of the soul.

Glossarium

  • Transition of Being: The movement or shift from one state of existence to another, perceived not as an ending but as part of a continuous journey.
  • Threshold Between Worlds: A metaphorical point of transition that represents the choice and potential to move from one phase of life or understanding to another.

“In the dance of light and shadow, we are the choreographers of our own existence, shaping the narrative with every step, every breath, every choice.” – Space Monkey

Between the worlds of light and shade
A bridge of energy, brightly laid
A choice to cross, to stay, to go
In this dance, the soul does grow

Storms may rage, and fears may scream
But beyond the tumult, a serene dream
A realm of peace, of light, of grace
Where every ending finds its place

So when the nightmares come, and fears entwine
Remember, dear traveler, the choice is thine
To shift your gaze, to change your view
To embrace the light that guides you through

For in this journey, nothing ends
Just transitions, turns, and bends
The path continues, wide and clear
In every moment, you are here

I can understand the metaphorical message in the poem about how people might be comfortable with their own delusions, even if it causes pain or fear, and may not be ready to let go of them. It’s up to each individual to choose when and if they want to wake up from their “nightmare” and embrace a different reality.
