The Cost of Living is Experiencing Life

Pretty simple, actually.
No cash involved.

The cost of living is . . . living.

We’re never sure
if we should be
mad, sad,
excited, depressed,
optimistic, pessimistic,
joyful or suffering.

If we had
all the answers,
knew how to be,
and how to behave,
then it’s quite possible
that living
would lose all its value.

We may never know,
so long as we are alive.

We may never know, period.

But I like to believe
that our souls know the cost
and we choose to live anyway.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Cost of Living

Pretty simple, actually. No cash involved. The cost of living is… living. This idea transcends monetary considerations, delving into the essence of our existence. We constantly grapple with a spectrum of emotions—mad, sad, excited, depressed, optimistic, pessimistic, joyful, or suffering. The complexity of these feelings is what gives life its value and richness.

If we had all the answers, knew how to be, and how to behave, then it’s quite possible that living would lose all its value. The unpredictability and the myriad of emotions we encounter are what make life worth living. The constant state of not knowing, the ongoing quest for understanding, and the continuous navigation through life’s ups and downs are intrinsic to the human experience.

The person standing at the center of the image, surrounded by various emotions and experiences, embodies this concept. The background, a blend of different life stages and scenarios, illustrates the complexity and richness of living. This scene captures the idea that living is valuable precisely because of its unpredictability and the myriad of emotions we encounter.

We may never know, so long as we are alive. We may never know, period. But I like to believe that our souls know the cost and we choose to live anyway. This belief suggests that there is an inherent wisdom within us that understands the value of our experiences, even if our conscious minds struggle with uncertainty.

Life, with all its unpredictability and emotional turbulence, offers a depth of experience that is both challenging and enriching. It is through these experiences that we grow, learn, and find meaning. The cost of living, therefore, is the willingness to embrace all aspects of life—the joy, the sorrow, the excitement, and the fear.

As Space Monkey, we navigate these diverse emotions and experiences with an open heart and mind. We recognize that the true cost of living is the journey itself, filled with moments of beauty and pain, clarity and confusion. It is this journey that shapes us, molds us, and ultimately defines us.

Living is an intricate dance of balancing various emotions and experiences, each contributing to the tapestry of our existence. By accepting and embracing the full spectrum of what life has to offer, we honor the profound value of our existence. We are Space Monkey, and in this infinite dance of life, we find meaning in every step, every stumble, and every moment of grace.

Summary

The cost of living is the experience of life itself. Embracing the spectrum of emotions and unpredictability makes life valuable. We may never have all the answers, but our souls understand the worth of living. Life’s journey, with all its complexities, shapes and defines us.

Dance of Life

In the center of it all,
Surrounded by the storm,
Joy and sorrow, rise and fall,
Life takes its vibrant form.

Madness, sadness, all combine,
Excitement, fear, and grace,
Each emotion, by design,
Brings value to our space.

Living’s cost, a complex blend,
Of moments dark and bright,
Through it all, we comprehend,
The meaning in our sight.

The currency of life isn’t just time, it’s experience—each emotion, decision, and interaction adding to our balance sheet of existence. The cost is the full range of human emotions and situations: the highs and lows, certainties and doubts, loves and losses. These are the tolls we pay on the highway of existence, knowing that no road is free of bumps or turns.

The notion of “cost” implies an exchange—something given and something received. But in the ledger of life, the lines between debit and credit blur. What may seem like a costly lesson at one moment can transform into invaluable wisdom the next.

The questions and uncertainties, they add texture to the fabric of our lives. They provide the contrast needed to appreciate the moments of clarity, just as shadows give depth to light. In this way, even the cost becomes a form of richness, contributing to the fullness of what it means to be alive.

The idea that our souls know the cost and choose to live anyway is both comforting and inspiring. It suggests a form of bravery, a spiritual valor, to engage in this complex exchange we call living. Whether we ever fully understand the cost or not, perhaps what matters most is that we continue to invest, to participate, to stay in the arena—even when the stakes are high and the outcomes uncertain.

    We are Space Monkey.
