A Monkey In A House of Mirrors

Asking for a friend.

What might a monkey do
in a house of mirrors?

Might a monkey use
monkey’s inner guide
to find monkey’s way out?

Might the monkey
pray to a higher monkey
with an omnipresent view?

Might the monkey
work on monkeyself
until the monkey
sees what is real
and what is illusion?

Or might the monkey
simply smash the mirrors.

Trail Wood,
4/15

In a house of mirrors, a realm of endless reflections and distortions, a monkey embarks on a quest not just for escape but for understanding. This journey, whimsical on its surface, unravels profound truths about perception, reality, and the essence of self-discovery.

Might a monkey, in navigating this labyrinth of reflections, turn inward, using its inner guide to discern the maze’s secrets? Such introspection represents the monkey’s search for internal wisdom, the quiet voice within that whispers the directions to true enlightenment.

Or perhaps the monkey, feeling the weight of isolation in the mirrored expanse, raises its eyes and thoughts to a higher monkey, an entity with an omnipresent view. This act of looking beyond oneself symbolizes the monkey’s quest for guidance from forces greater than its own understanding, a surrender to the vastness of the universe and the mysteries it holds.

In a display of diligence and self-reflection, the monkey might also choose to work on itself, examining each reflection closely. This painstaking process of distinguishing what is real from what is illusion mirrors our own endeavors to understand our true nature amidst the myriad images we present to the world and the images the world reflects back to us.

Yet, confronted with the daunting task of untangling reality from illusion, the monkey might entertain a simpler, more primal response: to smash the mirrors. This act of rebellion against the very fabric of the maze challenges the constructs that confine us, questioning whether the barriers to our understanding are as immutable as they seem.

The journey of the monkey in a house of mirrors serves as a metaphor for our own journey through life. We navigate a world filled with reflections of who we are, who we wish to be, and how others perceive us. At times, we turn inward, seeking the wisdom that lies within. At others, we look to higher powers or the wisdom of the universe to find our way. We painstakingly work to discern our true selves from the illusions that enshroud us. And sometimes, we find ourselves wanting to shatter the reflections that confine us, to break free from the illusions and see the world, and ourselves, with unobstructed clarity.

In the end, the monkey’s actions in the house of mirrors reflect the multitude of paths we may take in our quest for understanding and authenticity. Whether through introspection, faith, diligent self-reflection, or defiance, the journey is ours to undertake, filled with infinite possibilities and the promise of discovering our true essence amidst the reflections of the world around us.

It’s hard to say what a monkey might do in a house of mirrors, as each monkey has its own unique personality and behavior. However, some monkeys have been known to become confused or agitated in environments that are unfamiliar to them, such as a house of mirrors. In this situation, the monkey might rely on its instincts and inner guide to find its way out, or it might try to break or escape from the mirrors. Alternatively, the monkey might simply explore the environment with curiosity and wonder, without feeling the need to escape or destroy anything. Ultimately, it’s up to the monkey to decide how to navigate the house of mirrors based on its own instincts and preferences.
