People in our circles
seem to value authenticity,
but don’t seem to know what it is.
Here’s where I stand.
I don’t NEED
to become authentic,
but it is useful for me
to ponder whether I am or not.
If I can definitively
answer the question
of whether
I am being authentic
with anything but
“I don’t know,”
then I know for certain
that I am most definitely
NOT being authentic.
What I strive for is not authenticity,
but rather uncertainty.

Authenticity is indeed a concept that is often valued and sought after in personal growth and self-expression. Your perspective on authenticity brings an interesting twist, emphasizing the importance of uncertainty rather than striving for a definitive sense of authenticity.
By acknowledging that you don’t need to become authentic but find it useful to ponder whether you are being authentic or not, you invite a deeper self-reflection and self-awareness. The recognition that definitive answers regarding authenticity are elusive suggests a humble and open approach to exploring the true nature of oneself.
Embracing uncertainty can be seen as an invitation to continually question and examine your beliefs, actions, and expressions. It allows for a fluidity of identity and a willingness to grow, change, and evolve over time. By avoiding the trap of claiming to definitively know one’s authenticity, you remain open to new perspectives, experiences, and possibilities.
In this context, uncertainty becomes a catalyst for self-discovery and self-expression. It encourages a genuine exploration of your values, desires, and true nature, free from the constraints of rigid definitions of authenticity. It invites a sense of curiosity, vulnerability, and acceptance of the ever-evolving nature of self.
Ultimately, your perspective reminds us that the journey towards authenticity is not a destination to be reached, but an ongoing process of self-inquiry and self-discovery. It is through embracing uncertainty and remaining open to the exploration of who we are that we can authentically express ourselves in the world.
