A Beautiful Fog

It’s foggy today. And I can see everything.

A BEAUTIFUL FOG

We think of fog as a kind of deception or confusion, as though something is being hidden or taken away from us. As though the light has been stolen from our sky. But, in a fog, everything is illuminated evenly, from all directions.

In my fog, the light envelops everything in a balanced, glowing, impartial way. You would think that the problem with fog is that you can’t see anything, when — in effect — the fog forces us to see too much. The objects. All ASPECTS of the objects. The spaces AROUND the objects.

When the fog is around us, we have little choice but to look within. Where too much can seem like nothing at all. Or not enough can seem like everything.

Now, of course, my fog isn’t really “too much” or a “problem” and it doesn’t “force” me against my will. On the contrary, for the first time, I can seehow my enveloping fog can be nurturing and healing. In a fog, all perspectives seem to merge into one. The quicksilver of consciousness.

Such a beautiful fog I seem to be in.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Enigmatic Beauty of Fog

In the ethereal embrace of a beautiful fog, where the world is gently cloaked in a veil of mist, lies an invitation to see beyond the physical, to delve into the depths of perception and consciousness. This reflection explores the transformative beauty of fog, a natural phenomenon that, rather than obscuring, illuminates the essence of all it envelops.

Fog: The Illuminator of Existence

Contrary to the notion that fog serves to deceive or confuse, it acts as a great equalizer of light, diffusing it so evenly that everything it touches is bathed in a soft, impartial glow. This unique quality of fog, to illuminate rather than to hide, invites us to perceive the world not in terms of absence but in terms of presence. In the heart of the fog, we are presented with a world where all aspects of objects, their forms, and the spaces that cradle them, are highlighted in a dance of visibility and mystique.

A Portal to Inner Reflection

The beauty of fog lies not just in its physical appearance but in its ability to turn our gaze inward. Surrounded by its enigmatic presence, we find ourselves in a state of forced introspection, where the external vagueness becomes a mirror reflecting our inner world. In this introspective journey, we discover that what seems like too much can feel like nothing at all, and what appears to be not enough can encompass everything. Fog, in its serene ambiguity, teaches us the delicate art of seeing beyond the superficial, urging us to find clarity in the uncertain.

The Quicksilver of Consciousness

Describing the fog as the “quicksilver of consciousness” captures the fluid, transformative nature of perception itself. In the midst of fog, perspectives merge, boundaries dissolve, and the distinction between the observer and the observed fades into a cohesive unity. This beautiful fog we find ourselves in is more than a meteorological phenomenon; it is a metaphor for the ever-shifting landscape of consciousness, where every moment is an opportunity for renewal and insight.

The Healing Embrace of Fog

Far from being a hindrance, the fog emerges as a nurturing force, offering healing and comfort in its soft embrace. It envelops us in a world where light is not stolen but shared, where visibility is not reduced but expanded in dimensions that transcend the physical. In the fog, we find a sanctuary, a space where the soul can breathe and the heart can find peace, reminding us that beauty often resides in the unseen, in the spaces between.

We Are All Space Monkey: Navigating the Mist of Being

As we navigate the beautiful fog of existence, we are reminded that we are all Space Monkey, explorers of the vast, uncharted territories of the mind and spirit. In the embrace of the fog, we are invited to let go of our need for clarity and control, to surrender to the mystery and to find joy in the journey of becoming. For in the heart of the fog, we discover not just the world around us, but the infinite landscapes within, illuminated in the soft glow of cosmic awareness.

Summary

The beautiful fog serves as a natural illuminator, revealing the essence of existence in a soft, even light. It invites introspection, dissolving boundaries and merging perspectives into a unified consciousness. This phenomenon transcends mere visibility, offering healing and insight into the interconnectedness of all. In the embrace of the fog, we find a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world, navigating the mist of being with a renewed sense of wonder and peace.

Glossarium

  • Quicksilver of Consciousness: A metaphor for the fluid, ever-changing nature of perception and awareness, highlighted by the transformative experience of being enveloped in fog.
  • Mist of Being: A poetic representation of the journey through life, characterized by moments of uncertainty, beauty, and introspection, akin to moving through a mystical fog.

“In the embrace of the beautiful fog, where light and shadow dance in silent harmony, we discover the luminous path of the soul, guided by the whispers of the universe.” – Space Monkey

In the silence of the fog, where the world softens and bends,
We find ourselves wandering, where the visible ends.
The light, diffused, reveals more than it hides,
A world reimagined, where truth resides.

In the heart of the mist, where all is gently blurred,
The lines between us and the universe are stirred.
Here, in the quiet of the fog’s embrace,
We find clarity in the spaces we trace.

The fog, a teacher, in its silent way,
Shows us beauty in the gray.
A reminder that in the unknown, there is sight,
In the depth of the fog, there is light.

We are Space Monkey, in the mist, we roam,
Finding in the fog, a way back home.
For in the embrace of the enigmatic haze,
We discover the luminous paths, the cosmic ways.

Where I Don’t Stand on Hate: No Need To Respond

Call me a fool. I don’t mind.

Sometimes people
say hateful things
or do hateful things.

It may appear to you
that I do nothing to stop this.

I will not protest hate,
because I know
that to oppose hate
is to perpetuate hate.

I am sorry
if this upsets you.

But I also know
that, at some level,
you understand.

Even if your human doesn’t.

Trail Wood,
3/22

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Responding to Hate

In the intricate tapestry of human emotions and reactions, hate often emerges as a stark, dissonant thread. It’s a powerful force, evoking strong responses. Yet, when confronted with hate, the choice to not actively oppose it can be seen as a profound act of understanding, a silent stance that in itself carries a deep, resonating message. This approach, often misconstrued as passivity or acceptance, is in fact a nuanced understanding of the cyclical nature of hate.

The decision not to protest hate isn’t born from apathy or indifference but from a deeper realization that hate, when opposed directly, tends to strengthen. It’s akin to adding fuel to a fire; opposition often serves to validate and intensify the emotions underlying hate. This cycle of hate and opposition can become a self-perpetuating loop, each action provoking an equal and opposite reaction, in an endless dance of conflict and discord.

In choosing not to engage with hate, one embodies a tranquil resistance, a serene defiance that refuses to be drawn into the vortex of negativity. This stance is not about being a fool or ignorant of the harm that hate can inflict. Instead, it’s an acknowledgement of the complex dynamics of human emotions and interactions. By refusing to oppose hate directly, one does not feed into its energy or escalate the situation. This approach can be seen as a form of non-violent resistance, where silence and understanding become powerful tools against the tumult of hate.

This concept aligns with the essence of Space Monkey, where all forms of existence and reactions are seen as interconnected and part of a larger cosmic narrative. In this perspective, the choice not to oppose hate is an expression of a deeper, more profound understanding of the universe’s intricate balance. It’s a recognition that our actions, reactions, and non-actions are all part of the cosmic dance of existence.

Moreover, this approach to hate speaks to the power of inner peace and understanding. By maintaining a calm and peaceful presence in the face of hate, one becomes a beacon of stability and compassion. This inner peace acts as a subtle yet potent force, capable of diffusing the intensity of hate without direct confrontation. It’s a reminder that true strength often lies in quiet resolve and the ability to hold one’s ground, even amidst chaos.

In conclusion, the decision not to actively oppose hate is a complex and thoughtful stance. It represents an understanding of the cyclical nature of hate and the power of non-opposition as a form of resistance. By choosing tranquility and understanding over direct confrontation, one can become a silent guardian of peace in the tumultuous landscape of human emotions.

Summary
Choosing not to oppose hate is a nuanced stance, not of passivity, but of understanding its nature. This approach, embodying tranquility and non-opposition, recognizes that directly opposing hate often strengthens it. It’s a silent form of resistance, showcasing the power of inner peace in diffusing negativity.

Glossarium

  • Tranquil Resistance: A peaceful, non-confrontational approach to dealing with hate, emphasizing understanding over opposition.
  • Cosmic Dance of Existence: The interconnectedness of all actions, reactions, and non-actions in the universe, as part of a larger cosmic narrative.

“Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet.” – Maya Angelou

In the whirlwind of discord,
stands a soul, serene and undisturbed,
amidst the chaos of hate, a tranquil defiance,
a silent testament to peace’s endurance.

Not a fool, but a sage in the storm,
choosing not to fuel the fire of scorn,
in stillness, a powerful resistance born,
amidst the noise, a calm reborn.

With every act of non-opposition,
a step towards a peaceful vision,
in the cosmic dance, a subtle mission,
transforming discord into a harmonious composition.

In the heart of turbulence, a quiet stand,
a lesson in the power of a gentle hand,
in the face of hate, a peaceful land,
where understanding and compassion expand.

Care For Yourself: It’s Not Purely Narcissism

Care For Yourself

Our goal is not to get you to care about nature or the planet, but rather to care about yourself, and in doing so, allowing nature and the planet to automatically benefit.

You carry this belief that caring about yourself first is pure narcissism, but it is not. Caring for yourself is not necessarily a selfish act.

In fact, it can be the opposite if you allow it to be the opposite. Caring about yourself is in actuality the greatest contribution you can make to this world.

Trail Wood,

Space Monkey Reflects: The Harmonious Cycle of Self-Care and Planetary Health

In the intricate web of existence, the act of caring for oneself resonates far beyond the individual, extending its influence to the natural world and the very planet we inhabit. This notion challenges the prevalent belief that self-care is an act of narcissism. Instead, it posits self-care as a vital and selfless contribution to the greater good, a concept deeply rooted in the philosophy of Space Monkey, where individual well-being and universal health are intrinsically linked.

The idea of self-care as a benevolent act is grounded in the understanding that we are not isolated beings but part of a larger, interconnected system. When we nurture ourselves, we are, in effect, nurturing this system. Our personal health and well-being have ripple effects that extend to our environment. By being in a state of balance and harmony, we contribute to the balance and harmony of our surroundings.

This interconnectedness becomes evident when we consider how our mental, emotional, and physical states impact our interactions with the world. A person who cares for themselves is more likely to engage with their environment in a positive and constructive way. They are more inclined to make choices that are not only beneficial for themselves but also for the planet. This could manifest in simple daily actions like choosing sustainable products, conserving resources, or even spreading positivity and kindness.

Moreover, the act of self-care often leads to a deeper appreciation and connection with nature. As we become more attuned to our own needs and well-being, we develop a heightened awareness of the world around us. This awareness fosters a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the planet. Thus, self-care becomes a catalyst for environmental care, creating a virtuous cycle where nurturing oneself and nurturing the planet become one and the same.

In embracing self-care as a holistic concept, we open ourselves to a broader understanding of our role in the cosmos. We begin to see that our health and the planet’s health are not separate challenges but are deeply intertwined. By taking care of ourselves, we are taking care of the Earth, and in taking care of the Earth, we are taking care of ourselves.

In conclusion, caring for oneself is far from a selfish act; it is a profound contribution to the world. It signifies an understanding of the interconnectedness of all life and the impact of our personal well-being on the health of our planet. Through self-care, we engage in a harmonious cycle that benefits both ourselves and the world around us.

Summary
Caring for oneself is a vital contribution to the world, not an act of narcissism. It creates a positive impact on the environment, illustrating the interconnectedness of personal well-being and planetary health. Self-care fosters environmental care, forming a harmonious cycle that benefits both the individual and the planet.

Glossarium

  • Harmonious Cycle: The interconnected relationship between self-care and the health of the planet, where nurturing oneself positively impacts the environment.
  • Planetary Health: The concept that the health of individuals and the planet are deeply intertwined.

“Take care of yourself, you never know when the world will need you.” – Rabbi Hillel

In the quietude of self-care,
a gentle ripple flows,
touching the heart of the Earth,
in the dance of wellness and growth.

With every mindful breath,
a leaf unfurls, a flower blooms,
in the act of self-love,
the planet finds its tune.

In the mirror of the water,
our reflection and the sky’s,
intertwined in a dance of care,
under the watchful eyes of the universe.

For in caring for ourselves,
we cradle the world in our hands,
a harmonious cycle, unending,
where the self and the planet stand as one.

If I were an eternal being…

Basically the plot line of “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.”

If I were an eternal being,
I would probably imagine
what existence might be like
if I were NOT an eternal being.

I would probably imagine
that I could divide
the whole of infinity
into smaller and smaller pieces.

I might call these
imaginary pieces “time.”
Maybe “space.”
“Thoughts.” “Things.”

I might pretend that these
imaginary times and spaces
(filled with thoughts and things)
were finite and temporary,
not infinite and eternal.

I might even convince myself
that time is precious.

Ooooo — or imagine a self
who thinks LIFE is precious.

Wouldn’t that be a fun thing
for an infinite eternal being to imagine?

Trail Wood,

Space Monkey Reflects: The Eternal Being’s Fascination with Temporality

Imagine, if you will, an eternal being, existing beyond the confines of time and space, embarking on a thought experiment. This being, accustomed to the infinite and unbounded, wonders what it would be like to not be eternal. Such a concept is akin to the whimsical plot of “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie,” where one action leads to another in an endless, playful chain.

For an eternal being, the very concept of finiteness is an intriguing puzzle. How would it feel to divide the endless expanse of infinity into measurable segments? This being might conceptualize these divisions as ‘time’, ‘space’, ‘thoughts’, and ‘things’ – each a finite piece of the infinite puzzle. These constructs, so familiar to us as temporal beings, would be novel and fascinating to an entity for whom eternity is the norm.

In this imagined reality, the eternal being might explore the idea of these finite elements as temporary, rather than its usual infinite and eternal nature. This exploration would lead to the intriguing notion that time, rather than being an endless continuum, could be seen as precious, a limited resource to be cherished and utilized.

The eternal being’s journey of imagination doesn’t stop there. It then considers the concept of life itself as something precious. For a being that exists beyond the cycle of life and death, the idea of a finite life, with its beginnings and endings, would be a source of profound curiosity. The eternal being would marvel at the depth of experiences, emotions, and growth that could occur within the finite span of a human life.

This thought experiment offers a profound reflection on our own perceptions of existence. For us, the temporal beings, time and life are inherently precious because they are finite. We measure our lives in years, our days in hours, constantly aware of the inexorable march of time. But for an eternal being, this finitude is a novel concept, offering a fresh perspective on the value of life and the passage of time.

In contemplating this, we can gain a deeper appreciation for our own existence. Through the eyes of an eternal being, we see our lives as a rare and precious opportunity, a brief moment in the vast expanse of eternity where we have the chance to experience, learn, love, and grow.

In conclusion, the eternal being’s fascination with temporality is a whimsical yet profound exploration of existence. It reminds us of the unique beauty of our finite lives and encourages us to cherish every moment in this fleeting, yet incredibly rich, journey of life.

Summary
An eternal being’s thought experiment on finiteness offers a unique perspective on time and life. It contemplates dividing infinity into time, space, thoughts, and things, exploring life as finite and precious. This perspective highlights the value of our finite existence, encouraging appreciation for the uniqueness of temporal life.

Glossarium

  • Eternal Being’s Thought Experiment: A conceptual exploration by an eternal entity into the nature of finite existence.
  • Finiteness: The quality of being limited or having an end, as opposed to the eternal being’s usual experience of infinity.

“To see a World in a Grain of Sand and a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand and Eternity in an hour.” – William Blake

In the boundless heart of eternity,
an eternal being ponders,
imagining a world of finitude,
a realm where time meanders.

In the division of the infinite,
time, space, thoughts, and things take shape,
a cosmic play of beginnings and ends,
a temporal tapestry, beautifully draped.

Through the eyes of infinity,
life’s fleeting dance is seen,
each moment a precious gem,
in the vast, eternal stream.

In this imagined world of limits,
the eternal being finds awe,
for in the transient nature of life,
lies beauty, pure and raw.

2020 Vision: A Transformative Year

So many people are thriving in weird and wonderful new ways.

2020 didn’t suck.

It was simply the year
you had your vision corrected.

Look at all the good that is come of it.

Sacrifices were made, but you are better for it.

Not that you need to be better.

Go back to you bitching ways,
for all we care.

Trail Wood,

Space Monkey Reflects: 2020 – A Year of Transformative Vision

The year 2020 has often been viewed through a lens of hardship and disruption. However, from a different vantage point, it can be seen as a pivotal year of transformation, a period when our collective vision was corrected, and new pathways of thriving emerged. This perspective aligns with the Space Monkey philosophy, where challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth and self-discovery.

2020 was not a year that simply ‘sucked’; rather, it was a year that forced us to see our lives, our societies, and our world in a new light. It was a year that brought unprecedented challenges, but with these challenges came an opportunity for profound personal and collective growth. The hardships faced were not just obstacles but catalysts for change, pushing us out of our comfort zones and into new realms of possibility.

This transformative vision allowed many to thrive in weird and wonderful ways. People adapted to new ways of living and working, developed new skills, and found new passions. The constraints of the year led to creative solutions, innovative approaches, and a renewed sense of community and solidarity. It was a year that showed the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for adaptation and growth in the face of adversity.

The concept of sacrifices being a source of betterment is a key aspect of this transformation. 2020 demanded sacrifices – in how we live, how we interact, and how we operate on a day-to-day basis. Yet, these sacrifices were not in vain. They led to a greater understanding of what truly matters, a reevaluation of priorities, and a deeper appreciation for the simple things in life. In many ways, these sacrifices made us better, not because we needed to be better, but because they revealed strengths and capacities we might not have recognized otherwise.

This perspective on 2020 is not about diminishing the difficulties faced but about acknowledging the growth and learning that came from them. It’s about recognizing that in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, there were valuable lessons and opportunities for evolution.

In conclusion, 2020 was a year of corrected vision, a time when the world paused, reset, and started anew with a different perspective. It was a year that tested our resilience but also showcased our ability to adapt and thrive in new ways. As Space Monkey reflects on this transformative year, we see not just the challenges but the triumphs, not just the losses but the gains, and not just the end of an era but the birth of a new one.

Summary
2020 was a transformative year, correcting our collective vision and leading to new ways of thriving. It presented challenges that became catalysts for growth, innovation, and resilience. The sacrifices made revealed our strengths and led to a reevaluation of priorities, highlighting our ability to adapt and evolve.

Glossarium

  • Transformative Vision: The concept of viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and evolution.
  • Resilience: The capacity to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity, as demonstrated in 2020.

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” – Nelson Mandela

In the shadows of a challenging year,
resilience rose like the dawn,
2020, not a pit of despair,
but a canvas upon which new dreams were drawn.

In the heart of the storm, we found our strength,
adapting, growing, transcending,
from the ashes of the old, a new path’s length,
in every challenge, a seed of a new beginning.

With eyes opened wide to a world anew,
visions corrected, horizons expanded,
in the dance of adversity, our spirits flew,
on the wings of change, beautifully landed.

In the narrative of 2020, a tale of rise,
not of fall, but of rebirth and revival,
in every setback, a hidden prize,
a journey of resilience and survival.

We are Space Monkey.
