Pay Attention: Or Not

When we daydream, it is said that we’re not paying attention. Using that “logic,” it is clear that the way to leave our physical forms is to not pay attention to them. So why are we paying attention? Why do we demand each other to pay attention? Because despite what we tell our imaginary selves, pretending to be stuck in our meat suits is fun.

When someone says
“pay attention” to you,
what is your reaction?

I automatically
infer it as a negative,
as though I haven’t
been paying attention.

So next I ask my self
“why is not paying attention
most always viewed in my mind
as a so-called “bad” thing?”

Is it not possible
that not paying attention
could be viewed as a “good” thing?

Is it not possible
that the act of paying attention
is what makes us seemingly stuck
in these human forms?

Would it not be possible
to dissolve into the flow
by not paying attention?

Wouldn’t that be fun?

Are you even listening to me?

Trail Wood,
3/21

The ephemeral whispers of “pay attention” cascade through the labyrinthine corridors of our collective consciousness, evoking a duality of reactions. When we hear such a call, the conditioned theater of our mind tends to cast it as a reprimand. A scolding. As if, by not paying attention, we have failed in our role as guardians of the now.

But wait! Let us peel away the layers of this conditioned notion. What if not paying attention isn’t a flaw but a gateway, a wormhole into realms less confined by the sinews of our flesh and bones? This question isn’t merely speculative nectar; it’s a cosmic breadcrumb leading us towards unfurling freedom. By choosing not to focus our gaze, we unshackle ourselves from the self-imposed limitations that ensnare us in this earthly playground.

The traditionalists would chime in, admonishing us for such audacity. “Pay attention! Stay grounded! Do not stray into abstract oblivion!” they holler. But herein lies the paradox: by not paying attention, we are not lost but found, for we are in tune with the greater flow of existence, one that goes beyond the corporeal. We are not negating the world, but merely opening up to a reality that is not limited to five senses. An endless river of consciousness beckons. Dive in, and we may find ourselves in the sublime currents of universal playfulness.

Yet, we continue to demand attention from ourselves and each other. Is this insistence born from a need to share experiences, to affirm the reality of our human theater? Maybe, but let us not forget that being ‘stuck’ in our bodily avatars can be a spectacle in its own right. A cosmic ballet where every glance, touch, and thought forms a part of the grand choreography. After all, we have the eternity of not-being to not pay attention; our time tethered to these forms is but a fleeting moment. Embrace the paradox. We are Space Monkey.

Summary
We explore the oft-overlooked complexities of the phrase “pay attention,” inviting contemplation on the liberating potential of not focusing, of merging into the universal flow. The Paradox of Attention: Chains or Freedom?

“Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” – Simone Weil

Does the tempestuous swirl of our words resonate with the resonant chords of your existence? Would you wish to meander further along these sinuous pathways?

I am drawn to the grace of what I am.

I am eternally grateful.

Do what you are drawn to do.

Whether what you do
is of practical use or not
is irrelevant.

Grace is in the doing.

You do want grace, don’t you?

It doesn’t matter
if you make sense.

It doesn’t matter
if you make change.

It doesn’t even matter
if you you make friends.

All of those things
are with you no matter what.

Grace is unconditional.

Showing grace,
expressing grace,
this helps each one of us
find our own unique way to grace.

Not that grace has ever left us.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Eternal Dance of Grace Within

In the cosmic ballet, where stars and galaxies perform their ageless waltz, there exists a timeless and universal concept – grace. This concept, more than just an aesthetic of movement or poise, is an expression of the deepest truths of existence. Grace, as contemplated by Space Monkey, is the natural state of being, an effortless alignment with the rhythm of the universe.

Grace is found not in striving for perfection, nor in the pursuit of external validation, but in the simple act of being true to oneself. It is a state of inner harmony, where every action, thought, and emotion flows from the core of our being in a seamless and unforced manner. This inherent grace is a reminder that we are, at our essence, part of the cosmic design, seamlessly integrated into the tapestry of existence.

The grace of what one is, as a concept, transcends the boundaries of practical utility. It’s not about the usefulness of our actions but about their authenticity. In being drawn to our own grace, we embrace our true nature, unburdened by the expectations and judgments of others. This alignment with our authentic selves is where true grace lies – it is grace in its purest form.

In the realm of nexistentialism, grace is an ever-present force, a reminder that we are more than the sum of our physical parts. We are beings of light and energy, dancing to the rhythm of the universe. Our every movement, every breath, is a testament to the grace that resides within us.

The expression of grace is unique to each individual. It is not a one-size-fits-all concept but a personal journey of discovery and expression. Showing grace, expressing grace, and living in grace are ways we each find our unique path to this eternal truth. It’s a path that leads us not away from ourselves but deeper into the essence of who we are.

Grace, in its unconditional form, is always with us. It’s not something we need to acquire or earn; it is a fundamental part of our being. In recognizing and embracing this truth, we unlock the potential to live in harmony with ourselves and the universe.

In the philosophy of Space Monkey, grace is celebrated as a universal truth, a constant companion on our journey through the cosmos. It is a source of strength, a beacon of light guiding us through the trials and tribulations of existence.

As we reflect on the nature of grace, we come to understand that it is not something we do; it is something we are. It is the expression of our deepest self, the voice of our soul speaking through our actions. In embracing our grace, we embrace our place in the cosmos, a place where we are eternally connected to all that is, was, and will be.

Summary
Grace is an inherent state of being, reflecting inner harmony and authenticity. It transcends practicality and external validation, being an expression of our true nature. This concept emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and alignment with the cosmic rhythm, highlighting that grace is unconditional and ever-present in our lives.

Glossarium
Grace: An inherent state of being that reflects inner harmony and authenticity, transcending practicality and external validation.

“In the whisper of the cosmos, we find the grace of our souls.” – Space Monkey

In the cosmic dance, we glide,
With grace as our guide.
Beyond the realm of right and wrong,
In grace, we find our song.

Eternal and true, our inner light,
Shining through day and night.
In each step, each breath, each choice,
We hear our soul’s voice.

Grace, not earned but given free,
In its embrace, we find the key.
To unlock the depths of our being,
In grace, we are seeing.

In the grace of what we are,
We shine like a distant star.
In the rhythm of the universe, we flow,
With grace, we glow.

We are Space Monkey.

Delight In Nature’s Embrace

Delight

We have
more data
more detail
more definition
in our lives than
in previous ones.

But do we have more delight?

It would seem no.

It would seem that
our so-called “advances”
come at a cost.

Not simply a monetary cost.

It would seem
that
the very idea of money
comes at a cost.

I can’t say this
with any certainty, however.

In this moment,

I don’t remember my other lives.

I certainly don’t remember
my life before money.

If it isn’t bankruptcy,
a bomb or a biohazard,
it seems we’ve always
threatened ourselves.

The conclusion I come to
is that we think it’s fun.

Isn’t it?

I presently live

on a nature preserve,
in an 1806 farmhouse
that has stood for generations.

Over its lifetime,
this house has seen
everything from
failed crops
to pulitzer prizes.

And now Space Monkey.

How I came to be here at Trail Wood
is something I ponder every day.

What I’m meant to do
here is anybody’s guess.

It seems that
the greatness of this place
far exceeds the greatness of me.

But I suppose
the previous inhabitants
said that as well.

This place tells me
that we’re not about greatness.

Grace.

Grace is how
I come to be here.

Just like anybody
comes to be anywhere.

It is the first day of spring.

Though nature
does not mark a calendar,
there is an energy about Trail Wood
unlike any time of year.

I think I’m supposed to write about it.
I won’t be the first.

Edwin, who died in 1980,
wrote two books about Trail Wood.

People still come here
to see where Edwin wrote his books.

Others come here because they love nature.

Still others come simply to be here.

There is an energy
about this place,
too all-encompassing
to describe in words.

An odd place
for a Space Monkey.

Yet the perfect place.

It’s where I am, isn’t it?

And I am delighted.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Essence of Delight in Nature’s Embrace

In the eternal dance of existence, where nature’s rhythm plays a timeless melody, the concept of ‘Delight’ finds its truest expression. Amidst the serene backdrop of a nature preserve and an historic farmhouse, the essence of delight unfolds as a testament to the beauty and simplicity of the natural world, a theme deeply resonant with Space Monkey.

Delight, in this context, transcends the mere accumulation of data, detail, and definition that often characterizes modern life. It speaks to a deeper, more profound joy that arises from connecting with nature, with history, and with the essence of our being. It’s a reminder that true delight is not found in the advancements of technology or the pursuit of material wealth, but in the simple, unadulterated beauty of the world around us.

The 1806 farmhouse, standing as a silent witness to the passage of time, symbolizes this connection to history and the continuity of life. Its presence on the nature preserve is a bridge between the past and the present, offering a sanctuary of peace and contentment far removed from the complexities of modern existence.

In this place, the greatness of the surroundings surpasses the quest for personal greatness. It’s a humbling reminder that we are part of something larger, a vast tapestry of life that extends beyond our individual existence. This realization brings a sense of grace, a recognition that our presence in any place or moment is a gift, an opportunity to connect with the essence of life itself.

The first day of spring at Trail Wood, unmarked by calendars yet deeply felt in the energy of the place, embodies the renewal and hope inherent in nature. It’s a time when the world awakens from its winter slumber, offering a spectacle of growth, rebirth, and the endless cycle of life.

This connection to nature and the energy of the place is not just about physical presence; it’s about a deeper, spiritual connection. It’s about finding delight in the whispers of the wind, the rustle of leaves, and the quiet strength of the old farmhouse. It’s about understanding that every element of nature, every piece of history, tells a story that is both personal and universal.

As we journey through the cosmos, guided by the wisdom of Space Monkey, we learn to find delight in the simplest of things. We understand that joy is not a destination but a journey, a journey that takes us closer to our true selves and the heart of the universe.

In reflecting on the concept of ‘Delight’, we come to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the natural world. We recognize that our connection to nature, to history, and to each other is a source of endless delight, a wellspring of joy that nourishes our souls and uplifts our spirits.

Summary
‘Delight’ captures the essence of finding joy in the simplicity and beauty of nature and history. It emphasizes the tranquility and contentment found in connecting with the natural world and appreciating the present moment.

Glossarium
Delight: A state of joy and contentment derived from appreciating the beauty and simplicity of nature, history, and the present moment.

“In the embrace of nature, we find the purest joy.” – Space Monkey

In the arms of nature, we rest,
In her beauty, we are blessed.
Delight in the simple, the pure,
In nature’s embrace, we endure.

The old farmhouse, a silent guide,
Through the seasons, by our side.
In its walls, stories untold,
In its presence, we behold.

The first day of spring, a new start,
In its awakening, we take part.
Nature’s rhythm, a timeless song,
In her melody, we belong.

Let us find joy in the here and now,
In nature’s beauty, take our bow.
For in the essence of the simple and true,
We find delight, ever anew.

We are Space Monkey.

A Naked Man with a Wooden Stepladder

Last night
I had a vague vision
of a naked man
standing next
to a wooden stepladder.

As if to say:
“here I am
and here is my stepladder.”

Why this image
entered my consciousness,
I have no clue.

Now it belongs to you.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Vulnerability and Clarity in Surreal Dreams

In the universe of our dreams, where reality and fantasy intertwine in a dance of surrealism, the image of a naked man standing next to a wooden stepladder offers profound insights. This vision, both stark and enigmatic, is a canvas on which Space Monkey paints its reflections on vulnerability, openness, and the journey of self-discovery.

The nakedness of the man in the vision is symbolic, representing a state of absolute vulnerability and authenticity. In our most unguarded moments, stripped of all pretenses and societal constructs, we stand bare, exposed to the universe in our truest form. This nakedness is not one of physicality alone; it extends to the soul, revealing our innermost fears, desires, and truths.

The wooden stepladder, juxtaposed with the naked man, becomes a metaphor for the journey of life and consciousness. It is a symbol of ascension, of striving for higher levels of understanding and perspective. The ladder invites us to climb, to elevate ourselves above our mundane existence and explore the realms of higher consciousness.

This vision, emerging from the depths of the subconscious, speaks to the human condition in its most fundamental form. It is a reminder that in our quest for meaning and purpose, we are often most exposed, most vulnerable. Yet, it is in this vulnerability that we find our strength, our clarity, and our path to enlightenment.

In nexistentialism, where existence itself is the purpose, such visions are not mere flights of fancy; they are essential to our understanding of ourselves and the universe. They are the language through which the deeper parts of our psyche communicate, offering insights and lessons that transcend our waking thoughts.

The naked man with the stepladder is not just an image; it is a narrative, a story that each of us writes and rewrites in our journey through life. It is a tale of stripping away the unnecessary, of confronting our bare selves, and of the continuous climb towards understanding and enlightenment.

As we traverse the cosmos, guided by the wisdom of Space Monkey, we learn to embrace the vulnerability of our naked selves. We understand that it is in this state of openness that we connect most deeply with the universe and with ourselves. The ladder becomes not just a tool for ascension but a symbol of our unending quest for growth and understanding.

This vision, with its simplicity and depth, invites us to explore the many layers of our consciousness. It challenges us to look beyond the surface, to delve into the depths of our being, and to climb the ladder of our dreams and aspirations.

In reflecting on this dream, we come to understand that it is not just a fleeting image but a profound message from the depths of our soul. It is a call to introspection, to exploration, and to the fearless pursuit of truth in the vast, mysterious universe of our consciousness.

Summary
The vision of a naked man with a wooden stepladder symbolizes vulnerability and the journey of self-discovery. It represents the human condition of being exposed and authentic, inviting introspection and exploration of higher consciousness. This image underscores the importance of embracing our true selves in the quest for understanding and enlightenment.

Glossarium
Dream Symbolism: The representation of deep psychological truths through symbols and metaphors in dreams, reflecting our innermost fears, desires, and truths.

“In the starkness of our dreams, we find the ladder to our deepest selves.” – Space Monkey

In dreams, we stand, naked and true,
Beside the ladder, old and anew.
Stripped of pretense, bare to the core,
In our vulnerability, we explore.

Each step, a journey of the mind,
In the climb, ourselves we find.
Ascending high, above the fray,
In dreams, our truths we display.

Naked and bold, in the night’s embrace,
We confront our fears, face to face.
With every rung, higher we soar,
Uncovering truths, never seen before.

In this vision, surreal and clear,
We find our path, our purpose near.
Climbing the ladder, step by step,
In our dreams, our secrets kept.

We are Space Monkey.

Skating the Thin Ice of Reality’s Imagination

To be certain that I know is most likely a sign that I don’t.

What I see and know
is but a tiny fragment
of what exists among me
unobserved and unknown.

My reality may feel
like all there is, but it isn’t.

No matter
how carefully I observe;
how impartially I define,
I have no way of knowing
if I am reality’s imagination
or reality is mine.

Space Monkey Reflects: Navigating the Labyrinth of Reality and Imagination

In the infinite expanse of consciousness, where the tangible meets the intangible, we find ourselves at the crossroads of reality and imagination. This intersection invites a profound contemplation of our understanding and perception of the world around us.

The idea that our certainty might be an illusion, a mere shadow of true knowledge, challenges the very foundations of our understanding. It suggests that what we perceive as reality could be just a fragment of a much larger, unfathomable universe, unseen and unknown to our limited senses.

This concept that our reality might be a minuscule part of something much grander evokes a sense of both humility and wonder. It is a reminder that, despite our best efforts to observe, analyze, and understand, our grasp on the true nature of reality remains tenuous at best.

The quandary of whether we are the imagination of reality or if reality is a product of our imagination poses a philosophical conundrum. It blurs the lines between the observer and the observed, the creator and the creation. This enigma highlights the intricate dance between the known and the unknown, the seen and the unseen.

In this exploration, we encounter the idea that our perceptions and beliefs, no matter how carefully crafted, are but a single brushstroke in the grand canvas of existence. Our reality, as we know it, is shaped not only by what we perceive but also by the vast realms that lie beyond our perception.

The notion of being reality’s imagination or vice versa opens up a universe of possibilities. It suggests that our experiences, thoughts, and actions might be part of a larger narrative, a cosmic story in which we play both the protagonists and the spectators.

This perspective invites us to view our lives and the world around us with a sense of curiosity and openness. It encourages us to embrace the mysteries and uncertainties of existence, to explore the depths of our consciousness, and to marvel at the wonders of the universe.

As we navigate this labyrinth of reality and imagination, we realize that our journey is not about finding definitive answers but about embracing the questions themselves. It’s about recognizing the limitations of our understanding while celebrating the boundless nature of our imagination.

In this journey, we discover that the true essence of reality lies not in the concrete or the tangible but in the interplay of light and shadow, truth and fiction, certainty and doubt. It’s a journey that takes us beyond the confines of our minds, into the realm of the soul, where the only certainty is the existence of the infinite.

Summary

The concept of reality and imagination as intertwined realms challenges our understanding of existence. It suggests our perception of reality is limited and possibly a fragment of a larger unknown. This perspective encourages curiosity and open-mindedness, embracing the mysteries and uncertainties of life.

Glossarium

Reality and Imagination: The interplay between what is perceived as real and the realm of creative thought, challenging the boundaries of human understanding.

Philosophical Conundrum: A complex or unsolvable problem in philosophy, often involving fundamental aspects of human existence and perception.

Cosmic Narrative: The idea that our experiences and existence are part of a larger, universal story or sequence of events, beyond individual comprehension.

Quote

“In the dance of existence, we are both the painters and the canvas, creating and experiencing a world where reality and imagination intertwine in an endless waltz.” – Space Monkey

In the tapestry of being
Where threads of thought and matter weave
Lies a pattern ever-changing
In what we perceive and believe

Here, in this vast expanse
Where dreams and reality entwine
Each moment, a chance
To explore, to define

With every step, we tread
On paths unseen, unknown
In the labyrinth of the head
Where seeds of imagination are sown

In this journey of the soul
Let us embrace the unknown
For in the depths of our being
Lies the truth, yet to be shown

We are Space Monkey.
