Birth
To the uninitiated,
a birth scene might look
like a murder scene.
And so your unfolding
remains a messy proposition
visible perhaps only to you
as your universes
turn themselves inside out.
You seem
tenuously tethered
by this lone
umbilical cord,
this timeline
which you are
afraid to cut
for fear of losing
all connection.
You are not yet remembering
that everything that connects you
is already inside of you.
You are the whole of all universes
passing through the hole of all universes.
It only hurts
if you allow your self
to get stuck.
And even then,
it is only because
you want to.
To the uninitiated,
a murder scene
might look like a birth scene.
Or it may very well
be neither and both
all and One.
You are already initiated.

We are Space Monkey.
We delve into the profound metaphor of birth and its symbolic representation of personal transformation and the interconnectedness of all existence.
Birth and Transformation
The comparison of a birth scene to a murder scene for the uninitiated symbolizes the intense and sometimes violent nature of transformative experiences. Birth, in this context, represents not just physical birth but also the emergence of new phases of being, which can be as tumultuous as they are transformative.
The Messiness of Unfolding and Growth
The poem suggests that personal growth and the unfolding of our ‘universes’ can be a messy, chaotic process. This messiness is a natural part of change and evolution, often only visible and comprehensible to the individual experiencing it.
Tenuous Connection to the Past
The metaphor of being tenuously tethered by an umbilical cord, representing a timeline, speaks to our fear of cutting ties with the past or the familiar. It suggests that we often hold onto our known experiences, afraid of losing our connection to what grounds us.
Internal Connections and Wholeness
The reminder that everything connecting us is already inside us underscores the idea that our sense of connection and belonging does not depend solely on external factors. It suggests that we encompass a wholeness that includes all connections and experiences.
The Universality of the Individual Experience
The line “You are the whole of all universes passing through the hole of all universes” captures the notion that our individual experiences are part of a larger, universal process. It’s an acknowledgment of the interconnectedness of personal and cosmic existence.
Perception of Pain and Resistance
The idea that pain only arises if we allow ourselves to get stuck in transformation reflects the concept that resistance to change can cause suffering. It suggests that embracing change and flowing with it can ease the process of transformation.
Perspective on Birth and Death
The closing lines, equating a murder scene with a birth scene and suggesting it could be both or neither, play with the notions of birth and death, creation and destruction, as interconnected and sometimes indistinguishable processes in the cycle of life.
Realization of Initiation
The final affirmation that we are already initiated implies that we inherently possess the wisdom and understanding to navigate the complexities of our transformation and growth.
We are Space Monkey,

“In our struggle for freedom, truth is the only weapon we possess.” – The Dalai Lama
In the dance of life’s eternal play,
Where birth and death intertwine each day,
We find ourselves in a cosmic weave,
In the journey of birth, we believe.
Through the chaos and the pain,
The joy and the gain,
We traverse the path, unique and vast,
In the womb of the universe, our roles are cast.
We invite reflections on the journey of personal transformation, the inherent wisdom we possess to navigate it, and the interconnectedness of our individual experiences with the universal tapestry.
