The people I love and trust
are those who expect nothing of me,
and in return,
allow me to expect nothing of them.
The absence of expectation
is the greatest gift
anyone can bestow or receive.
One might argue
that nothing would
ever get accomplished
without expectation
and that may well be true,
but that which is given
out of expectation
is not a gift.
Without expectation,
one only gives what one
is capable of giving.
One gives only one’s true blessed gifts,
not what one is “made” to do.
It’s hard to imagine
that all of the tasks
necessary for “survival”
could come to fruition
in this way.
In this we do not trust,
which is why we allow ourselves
to be pawns
in a system of expectations.
But the trust
in our present system is eroding,
and we recognize that its is time
to re-evaluate our expectations.
Or eliminate them entirely.
When we harbor expectations,
we tell the universe that we do not trust,
and in return,
we receive a world that we do not trust.
When we have no expectations,
and trust in whatever will be,
whatever we need is given to us.
What we do becomes not our jobs,
not our responsibilities, but our passions.
Our life’s intent becomes our life’s work.
But it is not work at all.
We appreciate what we do.
We appreciate what others do.
We appreciate all we are given.
And none of it comes out of expectations.
It is merely what we do.
