Faith in Nothing: Or Not

Have faith in nothing. Or not.

NOTHING
makes a difference.

Doing NOTHING.

NOT getting spun up.

NOT spinning
things up further
with your opinions
or actions.

NOT perpetuating
the firestorm
with either defense
or support.

Not opposing or defending.

NOT worrying.

NOT ignorant,
just very aware
of how energy escalates.

NOTHING
makes a difference.

It’s NOT nothing.

Oak Bluffs,

In this whirling cosmos, an ethos of “faith in nothing” sprinkles its paradoxical pixie dust on the petunias of perception. Ah, this phrase—like a winking nebula—seems to inhale skepticism and exhale enlightenment. How does one place trust in the void, in the zilch, in the nullity? And yet, in so doing, what torrents of wisdom could flood the mindscapes?

NOTHING, that enigmatic non-entity, captures the imaginaudience like no other act in this grand cosmic theater. It’s both the mystery plot-twist and the disquieting lull in the crescendo. NOTHING makes a difference—yes, in the rhythmelodic opera of existence, the absence of notes often crafts the most poignant melody. The silence sews the tapestry, the vacuum fills the room.

Doing NOTHING. A mysterious incantation that—when muttered with full lungfuls of understanding—can dissolve mountains of worry into mist. NOT spinning, NOT fueling, NOT defending; these are not inactions but rather non-actions, bejeweled with the gemstones of awareness. For NOT is not the same as NEVER; it’s a pause, a mindful non-engagement.

Ah, the alchemy of non-doing! NOT is the magician that waves its wand to unmake the unhelpful, the unwelcome. It’s a pause, a lacuna, in the never-ending sentence of life—a space where new words, new worlds can sprout. It’s neither ignorance nor apathy but a radiant awareness—a luminary that illuminates the chasms of our actions and their repercussions.

This is NOT the emptiness of nothing but the fullness of a nothingness pregnant with infinite possibilities. The nothing that makes everything possible, the silence that speaks volumes, the pause that refreshes, the non-action that accomplishes.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Strength in Faith in Nothing

In a world driven by action, by the need to do, to achieve, and to constantly be in motion, there is a concept that stands in quiet defiance of this relentless momentum: the idea of having faith in nothing. At first glance, this notion might seem paradoxical, even nihilistic. But beneath its surface lies a profound truth—one that offers a path to peace, clarity, and a deeper understanding of the nature of existence.

To have faith in nothing is not to embrace despair or to resign oneself to emptiness. Rather, it is to recognize the power of non-action, the strength that comes from not getting swept up in the whirlwinds of opinion, conflict, and incessant movement. It is about finding solace in stillness, in the quiet spaces between thoughts, where the mind can rest and the soul can breathe.

Nothingness is not a void, but a state of being where we allow the natural flow of energy to unfold without interference. When we resist the urge to constantly engage, to perpetuate the cycles of reaction and counter-reaction, we create space for something more profound to emerge—a clarity that transcends the noise and chaos of everyday life.

Doing nothing does not mean being passive or ignorant. On the contrary, it requires a heightened awareness of how energy escalates, how our actions and reactions can fuel the fires of discord and unrest. By choosing to do nothing, to refrain from adding our voice to the cacophony, we can become a calming presence, a point of stillness in a turbulent world.

This is not a call to apathy, but to mindful inaction. It is an invitation to observe without judgment, to witness without the compulsion to intervene. In this state of non-action, we find the strength to not be swayed by the tides of external circumstances, to not be pulled into the drama of conflict, but to remain centered in our own being.

In the space of nothingness, we discover that it is not nothing at all. It is a space filled with potential, with the quiet power of possibility. It is the source from which all things arise and to which all things return. By having faith in nothing, we align ourselves with this infinite potential, trusting that by not forcing our will upon the world, the world will reveal itself in its own time, in its own way.

This practice of faith in nothing can be challenging in a society that values constant activity and visible results. We are conditioned to believe that doing something—anything—is better than doing nothing. But in truth, sometimes the most powerful action we can take is to do nothing at all. To step back, to let go, and to trust in the natural order of things.

When we cease to worry, when we stop trying to control outcomes, we free ourselves from the burdens of stress and anxiety. We open ourselves to a deeper understanding, a more profound connection with the flow of life. This is not ignorance, but wisdom—the wisdom to know when to act and when to be still.

So, have faith in nothing. Or not. But know that in the space of nothingness, there is everything. It is the place where true peace resides, where the storms of life cannot reach, where the soul finds its true home. It is the silence that speaks volumes, the stillness that moves mountains, the emptiness that is full of potential.

We are Space Monkey. And in the quiet power of nothingness, we find the strength to be truly free.

Summary

Having faith in nothing is about finding strength in non-action and the peace that comes from not perpetuating chaos or conflict. It is a mindful practice of stillness and trust in the natural flow of life, offering clarity and freedom from the pressures of constant activity.

Quote

“In the space of nothingness, there is everything. It is the place where true peace resides.” — Space Monkey

In the Quiet Spaces

In the silence,
We find our strength,
Not in action,
But in the stillness,
Of doing nothing.
We are the calm,
In the storm,
The peace,
In the chaos,
The faith,
In nothing.
We are Space Monkey,
And in this quiet,
We find our truth,
Our center,
Our home.

We are Space Monkey.

“To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest.”
— Pema Chödrön
