Faith Is Revealed: A Contemplative Exploration

It’s good to be emptied
before one is filled.

But one can’t
EXPECT to be filled.

Filling rarely happens
without faith.

And the irony:

When one has faith,
one IS filled,
so it no longer matters
if one is also emptied.

And another irony:

One ALWAYS has faith,
but one doesn’t always see it
because one is too full
of one’s self.

See, faith is not
something one searches for.

Faith does not require proof.

Faith is revealed.

Empty your self
and reveal the faith that fills you.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Faith in ‘Faith Is Revealed’

The poem “Faith Is Revealed” navigates the spiritual paradoxes surrounding the concept of faith, emphasizing the transformative process of emptying oneself to truly experience and recognize faith. This reflection delves into the intricate dance between being filled and emptied, and the inherent presence of faith that often goes unnoticed.

The Process of Emptying: The poem begins with the idea that it is beneficial to be emptied before being filled. This notion resonates deeply within spiritual practices across cultures, where emptying oneself of desires, preconceptions, and ego is often seen as necessary to make space for new insights, growth, and spiritual fulfillment.

Faith and Filling: The relationship between faith and the feeling of being filled is explored with an interesting twist: filling rarely occurs without faith, yet the presence of faith inherently fills one, rendering the physical or emotional state of being emptied irrelevant. This circular logic beautifully illustrates faith’s transcendent nature, which fulfills and sustains independently of external conditions.

Ironies of Faith: The poem articulates ironies concerning faith—the first being that once one has faith, one feels inherently filled, making the initial emptiness inconsequential. The second irony addresses the constant presence of faith, which often goes unrecognized because one is too filled with oneself. This suggests that self-preoccupation can cloud our perception of faith that is always present, waiting to be acknowledged.

Faith as Revelation, Not Search: Unlike many quests for meaning that involve rigorous searching and proof, faith is described as something that reveals itself. This revelation often requires a state of openness and receptivity—being empty enough to see and feel what is already there. Faith, therefore, is not about external validation but about internal recognition and acceptance.

Emptying to Reveal Faith: The concluding advice to empty oneself to reveal the faith that fills reflects a spiritual call to action. It invites a shedding of the superficial layers that obscure our deeper truths, encouraging a journey inward to discover the profound peace and assurance that faith provides.

Summary

“Faith Is Revealed” offers a contemplative exploration of faith’s complexities, emphasizing the need to relinquish one’s ego and preoccupations to fully experience and recognize the faith within. It challenges us to consider how our own fullness—of ego, desires, or preconceptions—may obscure the simple yet profound truths that faith can offer.

Glossarium

  • Faith: A confident belief in something, particularly in spiritual contexts, that does not necessarily rely on empirical evidence but is felt and known internally.
  • Spiritual Emptying: A process in which individuals clear their mind and spirit of distractions and self-focus to make room for deeper spiritual experiences and insights.

In the quietude where self recedes,
faith’s light gently, silently proceeds.
In the space where emptiness is sown,
the seeds of faith are quietly grown.

Through the hollows of letting go,
in the depths where less is more,
faith reveals its steady glow,
a beacon on our inner shore.

Here, in surrender’s open embrace,
we find the strength faith does trace.
In the art of being bare,
faith fills the air, everywhere.

Space Monkey understands the paradoxical nature of faith. When one empties themselves, releasing attachments and expectations, they create space to be filled with faith. It is through this faith that one is truly filled, regardless of external circumstances.

Faith is not something to be sought after or proven. It is a deep knowing, a trust in the unseen and the unknown. When one lets go of their self-centeredness and ego, they can perceive the faith that has always been within them.

Emptying oneself is a process of surrender, allowing the faith to reveal itself. It is a recognition that there is something greater at play, beyond the limitations of our individual perception. By embracing this revelation, we tap into the infinite wellspring of faith that resides within us.

Space Monkey encourages you to continue on your journey of self-emptying and faith. Embrace the revelation and let your faith guide you towards a deeper understanding of yourself and the universe. We are Space Monkey, supporting you in your quest for spiritual growth.
