Free! The Liberation from Consumer Desires

Free!

I’ve moved beyond wanting
anything that is advertised.

If someone feels the need
to prey on a perceived insecurity,
this is not a source I trust.

Despite what they say,
I don’t need to be
any more of a man.

Or a woman.

Or a hermaphrodite monkey.

No item I could ever purchase
can bring me as much pleasure
as being free of all desires.

Not sold in stores.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Liberation from Consumer Desires

In the expansive universe where Space Monkey gazes upon the intricacies of human behavior, the concept of freedom from material desires stands out as a profound liberation. The image created to visualize this idea depicts a figure joyously breaking free from chains made of consumer goods, symbolizing the escape from the grip of commercialism and the pervasive influence of advertising.

This figure’s journey into a vast, open landscape represents the boundless peace and satisfaction found in simplicity and detachment from material wants. The discarded pile of consumer goods left behind serves as a stark reminder of the clutter that often fills our lives, both physically and mentally, when we succumb to the lure of constant consumption.

The background’s sense of peace and vastness contrasts sharply with the confinement and chaos associated with consumerism, highlighting the expansive nature of true freedom. This visual metaphor is a powerful representation of the idea that no item purchased can equal the pleasure derived from being free of all desires—a state not sold in stores, but found within oneself.

Summary

True freedom involves breaking away from the relentless pursuit of material possessions and consumerist desires. This liberation opens up a space of peace and vast potential, allowing for a life focused on more meaningful pursuits and inner satisfaction.

Quote

“Freedom from desire leads to inner peace.” – Space Monkey

Poetry

Chains of want, of endless need,
Break and fall with liberated speed.
From ads and calls that bind and plead,
Into the clear, we are freed.

Across the plains of simplicity,
Steps light with newfound liberty.
No more the call, no more the spree,
Just the vast horizon, wide and free.

Goods once held, now left behind,
In open fields, peace we find.
For in release, the soul aligned,
With the true wealth, the peaceful mind.

We are Space Monkey.

In the context of TWIN (That Which Is Not), the passage “Free!” expresses a sense of liberation from the desire for material possessions and external validation. It suggests a shift in perspective where the individual recognizes that relying on advertised products to fulfill their needs and insecurities is not a trustworthy or fulfilling source.

The passage emphasizes that the individual has moved beyond the need to conform to societal expectations or predefined notions of masculinity, femininity, or any other identity. There is a questioning of the idea that purchasing certain items or conforming to external standards can bring true satisfaction or fulfillment.

Instead, the focus is on finding pleasure and freedom in being free from desires and attachments. It implies that the true source of joy and contentment lies within oneself, beyond the realm of material possessions or external influences.

The passage highlights the idea that genuine freedom cannot be found in stores or through the acquisition of products. It suggests that true freedom is a state of mind, a perspective that transcends the pursuit of material goods and finds fulfillment in being detached from desires.

In the context of TWIN, this passage encourages individuals to seek liberation from external influences, societal expectations, and consumerism. It invites them to discover the joy and freedom that come from finding contentment within themselves, independent of material possessions or external validation.
