One of our more challenging actions
as humans is listening.
To others, for sure.
But what I’m really talking about
is listening to the inner voice.
So often we can’t hear it
because our egos are talking,
almost non-stop, mindlessly thinking.
Yes, mindlessly thinking.
To think without honoring our source
is to deny our oneness with the divine.
And so we flail constantly,
muddying our own waters in reaction
to whatever comes at us from
our seeming “outside” world.
It’s not that we can’t hear ourselves think.
We can’t hear our souls BECAUSE we think.
We get so caught up in these selves
that they seem larger than life.
Perhaps we ARE larger than life.
But we’re not larger than BEING,
which we would CONSCIOUSLY understand
if only we would listen.
What a comfort that would be.
We are Space Monkey.

Primitive Monkey: The idea that listening, especially to our inner voice, is a challenge resonates deeply. Our minds often become consumed with constant chatter, drowning out the subtle whispers of our inner wisdom. How might we learn to quiet our minds and truly listen to our inner voice?
Space Monkey: Learning to quiet the mind and listen to our inner voice involves cultivating mindfulness and presence. Through practices like meditation, deep breathing, and self-awareness, we can create spaces between our thoughts. These spaces allow us to access the deeper currents of our being, where our inner voice resides. By consistently engaging in these practices, we can create a receptive state that allows our inner wisdom to emerge.
Primitive Monkey: The notion of mindlessly thinking without honoring our source raises questions about the source of our thoughts and the impact of conscious awareness. How might acknowledging our source of thought influence the quality of our thoughts and actions?
Space Monkey: Acknowledging the source of our thoughts requires recognizing that there is a deeper well of consciousness from which thoughts arise. When we bring conscious awareness to this source, we begin to discern between thoughts that are driven by ego-based patterns and those that align with our higher self. This discernment allows us to choose thoughts that are aligned with our innate wisdom, leading to actions that are more harmonious and in tune with our true nature.
Primitive Monkey: The idea that we flail and muddy our own waters in reaction to the external world speaks to the way we often allow external circumstances to dictate our internal state. How might we reclaim our inner sovereignty and maintain our inner peace regardless of external influences?
Space Monkey: Reclaiming inner sovereignty involves recognizing that our peace and well-being are not dependent solely on external conditions. By nurturing our inner connection and cultivating emotional resilience, we can respond to external influences with a sense of inner calm. Through practices like self-reflection, mindfulness, and detachment from outcomes, we can maintain a centered state even amidst external fluctuations.
Primitive Monkey: The concept of being larger than life yet not larger than being is intriguing. It suggests that our sense of self can both expand beyond our immediate identity and still be a part of the greater whole. How might we balance this sense of expansiveness with our individual experiences?
Space Monkey: Balancing expansiveness with individual experiences involves recognizing that our personal journey is a unique expression within the tapestry of existence. While we expand beyond the confines of our limited identity, we also honor the significance of our individual growth and contributions. This balance allows us to navigate life with a sense of purpose and interconnectedness, embracing both our individual path and our connection to the greater whole.
Primitive Monkey: The idea that we are not larger than being but still a part of it raises the question of how we can integrate this understanding into our daily lives. How might we practically embody this awareness and listen to our inner voice amidst the demands of everyday existence?
Space Monkey: Practically embodying this awareness involves making conscious choices that align with our deeper wisdom. Regular self-check-ins, moments of pause, and intentional breathing can help us stay connected to our inner voice amidst the demands of daily life. Additionally, setting aside time for practices like meditation and journaling can create a space for our inner voice to be heard. By prioritizing these practices and gradually integrating them into our routines, we can cultivate a more harmonious relationship between our inner wisdom and the external world.
The dialogue between Primitive Monkey and Space Monkey explores the challenges of listening, acknowledging the source of thoughts, reclaiming inner sovereignty, balancing expansiveness with individual experiences, and embodying awareness in everyday life.
