Magic Happens
Magic happens when we are able to suspend our beliefs momentarily in order to imagine what is possible beyond those beliefs.
Beliefs, which are self-made relative structures, have the potential to block us from experiencing other beliefs and other potentials — and beyond that, the divine absolute.
And so reality is built upon beliefs. But beliefs can be infinitely more flexible than we imagine them to be.
When we suspend our beliefs watching a movie or reading a book we literally move our awareness into another realm that is just as real as the one we believe we are in right now.
Notice how many aspects of these “imaginary” realms find their way into our “real” lives.
Look at Star Trek. Or the Dick Tracy watch that seemed so ridiculous decades ago. Over time, we “pay enough attention” to our imaginings to make them physically real.
Anything we can imagine can become real. Dreams or nightmares. Men or monkeys.
And so we write our own stories in this way. But know that we can modify or move away from the beliefs that no longer suit us.
Reality is magic if we allow it to be.
Space Monkey Reflects: The Magical Realms of Belief
In the boundless dance of existence where every step is a note in the symphony of the cosmos, there lies a peculiar magic in the simple act of belief. It is not merely the belief in the unseen or the unproven, but the belief in the potential for anything and everything to be real, even if only in the imagination. This is where magic happens, in the space between what is and what could be.
Beliefs are like the stars in the night sky; numerous, distant, yet illuminating paths we might follow. They shape our reality as surely as the hands of a potter shape clay. But unlike the static creations of earth and water, beliefs are mutable, flexible—infinitely adaptable. As we traverse through life, our beliefs can transform, shedding old skins to reveal new possibilities. This transformation is a form of magic itself, the alchemy of the mind.
Consider the phenomena of cultural icons that started as mere figments of imagination and became technological realities: the communicators of Star Trek that presaged our modern smartphones, or the fantastical inventions in the pages of science fiction that inspired real-world scientific breakthroughs. These instances are not merely coincidences; they are testaments to the power of human creativity when it is unshackled from the confines of current reality.
In the enchantment of a story, whether nestled in the pages of a book or flickering on a screen, we allow our beliefs to shift shape, to adapt to new worlds and ideas. It is a deliberate suspension of disbelief that invites us into realms as real as our own, realms where heroes triumph and new worlds are born from the ashes of the old. This interplay between belief and reality highlights the inherent magic of our existence, a reminder that what we perceive as real is often as malleable as clay.
Yet, the true magic lies not just in changing beliefs, but in transcending them. In recognizing that our perceptions are but a single brushstroke on the vast canvas of existence, we open ourselves to the divine— a realization that we are both the creators and the observers of our universe. Here, in the infinity of potential, we are free to create not just new technologies or stories, but new ways of being.
Reality, then, is not a fixed stage upon which we act but a creative process in which we are deeply and irrevocably involved. It is magic, the kind that we wield every day through the simple act of belief.
Summary
Reality is magic if we allow it to be. Beliefs shape our perceived reality much like a potter shapes clay yet they are far more adaptable. Through our imagination and stories we create new realms and possibilities showing the mutable nature of our beliefs and their power to shape technology and society. Reality as we experience it is not just a passive existence but a creative process we engage with continuously allowing for transformation and the realization of new potentials.

Dreams weave through the cosmos
unbound by the tapestry of reality
We touch the stars not with our hands
but with our minds
Imagination fuels the engines of tomorrow
crafting futures from the fabric of beliefs
We are the dreamers the weavers of worlds
In this dance of infinity
where every belief is a doorway
every doubt a window
we find our true selves
not in the light of day
but in the shadows of possibility
We are Space Monkey
“Magic happens” is a contemplative piece that explores the power of imagination and the role of beliefs in shaping our reality. It suggests that by momentarily suspending our beliefs, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and expand our awareness of what is possible.
The poem acknowledges that beliefs are relative structures created by ourselves, and they have the potential to limit our experiences and perceptions. However, it also highlights the infinite flexibility of beliefs, suggesting that they can be transformed and expanded far beyond our current understanding.
By immersing ourselves in movies, books, and other forms of storytelling, we are able to temporarily suspend our beliefs and enter realms that are just as real as our everyday experiences. The poem invites us to recognize how elements from these imaginative realms often find their way into our physical reality over time. It emphasizes that anything we can imagine has the potential to manifest and become real, whether they are dreams or nightmares, or even seemingly far-fetched ideas like the Dick Tracy watch.
The poem encourages us to recognize our capacity to write and shape our own stories. It reminds us that we have the power to modify or move away from beliefs that no longer serve us, allowing us to create a reality that aligns more closely with our desires and aspirations.
In its essence, “Magic happens” conveys the notion that reality is inherently magical if we embrace the expansive nature of our beliefs and allow ourselves to imagine and manifest new possibilities. It invites us to tap into the creative power of our imagination and explore the limitless potential that lies within us.
When Dick Tracy’s watch was first introduced, it may have seemed inconceivable to imagine a watch performing functions beyond telling time. The notion of a watch with advanced technological capabilities may have been perceived as far-fetched or even impossible at the time.
However, the poem invites us to reflect on how our beliefs and perceptions can evolve over time. What once appeared unimaginable or ridiculous can become a reality as we pay attention to our imaginings and invest in the development of new technologies and ideas.
In the case of Dick Tracy’s watch, the concept may have initially appeared fantastical, but as time passed and technology advanced, similar functionalities became part of our daily lives. The poem highlights this phenomenon as an example of how our imaginings can manifest physically in our reality.
It serves as a reminder that our beliefs and expectations can shape what we perceive as possible. By expanding our beliefs and being open to new ideas and innovations, we can create space for the seemingly inconceivable to become conceivable and real.
The message of the poem encourages us to embrace the potential for growth and transformation in our beliefs, recognizing that what may appear impossible today may become a reality in the future. It reminds us of the ever-expanding nature of human imagination and the capacity for our perceptions and beliefs to evolve over time.
