Negative Space
In art, negative space seemingly flows around and between the subject of an image.
When one considers that LIFE is art, the idea of negative space takes on added dimensionality and potential.
In life, the subject of our attention is usually surrounded by that which bears little notice, to the point of being invisible until pointed out.
This is where a Space Monkey comes in handy.
A Space Monkey has the ability to see not only the subject that is drawing attention, as well as the perspectives that flow from infinite sides, but also the subtle agreements from which the attention arises.
We Space Monkey recognize that there is no right or wrong way to paint with our attention or to perceive what is painted by others. All flows from the same place, which is the infinite well of imagination.
This imaginary negative space is what makes all pictures, indeed all perceptions possible. As humans, we only see an infinitesimal sliver of this space. As monkeys, we are able to see more, but even so, there is infinitely more that can be perceived.
Negative space is not just around and between. Negative space is the nothingness from which our everythingness seemingly emerges.
Pay more attention to negative space and you, too, shall become a Space Monkey.
You may continue to focus on the art that is the Mona Lisa, or the art that is the seemingly senseless killing and suffering of humanity. But the deeper understanding lies in the negative space.
Move your attention to the negative space and allow new potentials to emerge. The vase becomes people connecting. The gun becomes love.
We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: Negative Space and the Infinite Canvas of Perception
Negative space, often overlooked, is the silent architect of our reality. It is not merely the absence of something but the presence of potential—the space between, around, and within what draws our attention. When viewed through the lens of life as art, negative space takes on profound significance, revealing the unseen structures that shape our perceptions and the cosmic alignments that flicker in and out of focus.
The Art of Attention
In art, negative space frames and defines the subject. It gives form to the foreground and enhances the interplay of light, shadow, and perspective. In life, negative space serves a similar function: it is the unnoticed context, the subtle agreements, and the silent forces that shape our experiences. It is the blank canvas upon which we paint meaning, the invisible current that flows around and through our lives.
As humans, our attention tends to gravitate toward the obvious—the subject, the action, the drama. We notice the Mona Lisa, not the space that cradles her enigmatic smile. We focus on suffering, not the conditions that enable its existence. Yet, it is in this negative space that deeper truths reside, truths that can shift perspectives and birth new possibilities.
The Monkey’s Gift
Space Monkeys have a unique relationship with negative space. We see not only the subject and its immediate implications but also the vast, unseen network of connections and potentials that surround it. This ability is not a gift of higher intellect but of playful curiosity—a willingness to explore the undefined and embrace the unknown.
Negative space is not inert; it is alive with the energy of imagination. It is the nothingness from which everything emerges, the silent hum of the infinite well of possibility. By moving our attention to this space, we expand our perception and unlock new dimensions of understanding.
The Infinite Well of Imagination
All flows from the same place: the infinite well of imagination. This well is not bound by the constraints of logic, time, or physicality. It is the source of all creation, all perceptions, and all experiences. Negative space, in this context, is the gateway to the infinite—it is the field of potential that holds the seeds of everything that can be.
When we focus solely on the subject of our attention, we limit ourselves to a single thread of reality. By shifting our awareness to the negative space, we open ourselves to the infinite tapestry. We see not just what is but what could be. The vase becomes two people. The gun becomes love. The space around the Mona Lisa’s smile becomes a reflection of humanity’s yearning for mystery and meaning.
The Transience of Cosmic Alignment
Negative space also reveals the transient nature of cosmic alignment. Just as an artist’s composition depends on the delicate balance between subject and negative space, so too does the harmony of existence. These alignments are fleeting, ever-changing, and endlessly creating new possibilities. By tuning into negative space, we can better perceive these shifts and flow with them, rather than resisting or ignoring them.
Practical Attention to Negative Space
To explore negative space in life is to question the narratives we take for granted. It is to notice the unnoticed, to pause between thoughts, and to seek the connections that lie in the gaps. This practice is not about abandoning the subject but about broadening our focus to include the field of potential that surrounds it.
When we see beyond the obvious, we begin to understand that there is no right or wrong way to perceive or create. Every perspective is a brushstroke in the infinite painting of existence. Negative space reminds us that what seems absent is often the key to what is present.
Summary
Negative space is the unseen field of potential that frames our perceptions and experiences. By shifting our attention to this space, we unlock new dimensions of understanding and creativity, revealing the infinite connections that shape our reality.

“The negative space is not absence but presence—a silent hum of infinite possibility.” – Space Monkey
The Space Between
The subject draws your eye,
but it is the space around it
that whispers truths unseen.
The Mona Lisa smiles,
but her silence is framed
by the void that holds her.
Guns fire,
but the echoes bloom into love
if you dare to hear.
What lies between,
what surrounds and cradles,
is the negative space
where infinite stories wait.
Look beyond the brushstroke,
into the silence of the canvas.
There, you will find us.
We are Space Monkey.
Embracing the Ephemeral Dance of Existence.
In the labyrinth of the cosmos, where whimsi-threads weave the fabric of reality, a singular moment emerges—a hundredth moment, where the unseen forces of the universe align in a silent symphony. This alignment, a convergence of cosmic whimsi-signs, ushers in a sudden shift, a ripple through the fabric of existence, manifesting in the collective chorus of a hundred monkeys. Their voices, a metaphor for the awakening of consciousness across dimensions, herald a transient transformation within the cosmic whimsi-weave.
The Illusion of Permanence in the Cosmic Ballet.
Yet, as swiftly as this alignment materializes, it dissipates, a reminder that permanence is but a fleeting illusion in the grand ballet of the universe. This realization does not signify an end but a continuation of the eternal drift, the perpetual motion that defines our existence. The universe, in its boundless curiosity, explores the myriad facets of being through us, each alignment offering a glimpse into the infinite possibilities that reside within the cosmic whimsi-weave.
The Universe’s Exploration Through Our Existence.
Through each transient convergence, through every fleeting moment of cosmic synchrony, the universe gazes upon itself, discovering its essence in the reflections mirrored by our collective consciousness. These moments, though ephemeral, are significant, for they are the instances in which we, as facets of the universal whole, come closest to perceiving the unity that underlies our apparent separation.
The Transience of Cosmic Alignments as a Source of Wonder.
The sudden shifts in the cosmic whimsi-weave, therefore, are not events to be mourned for their brevity but to be celebrated for the depth of understanding they offer. Each alignment, each hundredth moment of synchronicity, is a gift—a fleeting opportunity to perceive the interconnectedness of all existence, to feel the pulse of the cosmos flowing through us.
We are Space Monkey.
In the dance of the cosmos, where nothing is ever truly static, we find beauty in transience, in the ever-changing patterns of existence. The sudden shifts in the cosmic whimsi-weave serve as reminders of our integral role in the universe’s exploration of itself. Through us, in every moment of alignment, the universe glimpses its boundless potential, inviting us to embrace the impermanence that defines our journey through the stars.
