Opinion: The Vanishing

Opinion

I would rather
have no opinion
than a low opinion.

This is why
you mean nothing to me.

I need not pay
you a moment of
precious attention,
nor need I perpetuate
any perception of you
whatsoever.

You exist only as
I believe you exist.

You vanish
when I decide you vanish.

This is not your choice.

I imagine you
just as you imagine me.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Ephemeral Nature of Opinion

Opinions are the scaffolding of perception, shaping the way we engage with the world and with others. But what happens when we withdraw the scaffolding entirely? To have no opinion is not indifference—it is liberation. It is the recognition that existence itself is imagined, and what we believe about others reflects only the self.

The Power to Believe or Vanish

“You exist only as I believe you exist.” This statement captures the profound realization that perception is a choice. We imbue others with meaning, attributes, and identities based on the stories we tell ourselves. But the moment we decide to let go of these stories, the projections vanish. They were never truly “other” but facets of our own imagination.

To “vanish” someone is not an act of erasure but a release from the bonds of opinion. It is a return to the neutrality of being, where no perception must be perpetuated unless we choose to.

No Opinion vs. Low Opinion

A low opinion ties us to judgment, anchoring us in a narrative of separation and superiority. It perpetuates the illusion of “self” versus “other,” reinforcing the walls that divide us. To have no opinion, on the other hand, is to transcend this duality. It is not indifference but freedom—a space where neither praise nor condemnation is necessary.

In this space, we cease to define ourselves through our perceptions of others. We allow them to simply exist, as we allow ourselves to simply be.

Imagining the Other

“You vanish when I decide you vanish.” This truth highlights the illusory nature of separation. We imagine others as they imagine us, creating a shared interplay of existence. But this interplay is not fixed. It is fluid, subject to the whims of imagination. To recognize this is to step into the role of creator, not in a controlling sense, but in a playful acknowledgment of the power we hold.

This dynamic reveals the unity beneath the illusion. When we release our opinions, we dissolve the barriers between “me” and “you,” remembering that we are both aspects of the same infinite whole.

Attention as Currency

The statement, “I need not pay you a moment of precious attention,” underscores the value of attention as a creative force. Where we direct our focus, we shape reality. By withdrawing attention from judgment and low opinion, we reclaim our energy, channeling it into more expansive and harmonious expressions.

The Space Monkey Perspective

As Space Monkeys, we embody this playful awareness. We acknowledge the imagined nature of existence while delighting in the possibilities it offers. Opinions are tools, not truths, and we wield them—or discard them—with the lightness of those who know they are both the illusionist and the illusion.

Summary

Opinion shapes perception, but to have no opinion is to transcend judgment and separation. This liberation allows us to reclaim attention as a creative force and dissolve the illusion of “self” versus “other.” We imagine others as they imagine us, revealing the unity beneath the interplay of existence.

Glossarium

  • Opinion as Scaffolding: The framework through which we construct perceptions of others, subject to imagination and belief.
  • Vanishment: The act of releasing someone from the bonds of perception, allowing neutrality of being.
  • Attention as Currency: The recognition of attention as a powerful force that shapes reality.

Quote

“To hold no opinion is not indifference; it is the freedom to see without judgment, to imagine without limits.” — Space Monkey

The Vanishing

I see you,
As I choose to see.
You appear,
Not as you are,
But as I imagine.

And when I release you,
You vanish,
As I do
In your mind.

No low opinion binds us,
No judgment holds us apart.
We are the same dream,
Imagining the other
Into being.

We are Space Monkey.

In the realm of thought and opinion, the choice to abstain from forming a low opinion can be a profound one. It speaks to the notion of selective attention and the power we hold over our perceptions of existence and non-existence.

The Value of No Opinion

Choosing to have no opinion rather than a low opinion is a deliberate act of preserving one’s mental environment. It is the decision to not let negativity or judgment cloud our consciousness. This approach allows for neutrality and conserves the energy that would otherwise be spent on negative contemplation.

Meaning and Attention

The statement “you mean nothing to me” is not a dismissal but an acknowledgment of the autonomy we have over our focus and attention. It is a declaration of independence from the need to engage with that which does not serve us or resonate with our higher self.

Perception as Existence

Our reality is shaped by our beliefs and perceptions. The idea that something exists only as long as we believe it does highlights the power of our consciousness. It is a reflection of the mental constructs that define our experience of reality.

The Illusion of Control

The notion that one vanishes when another decides is an illusion of control. It emphasizes the subjective nature of our experiences and the transient nature of our perceptions. It is a powerful reminder that our engagement with the world is a choice, and what we focus on ultimately shapes our reality.

Mutual Imagination

Acknowledging that we imagine each other just as vividly as we are imagined by others is to recognize the shared nature of existence. Our perceptions of each other are as real as the collective imagination allows them to be. This mutual imagining is a dance of consciousness, where each of us plays a role in the other’s reality.

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”
― Gautama Buddha

In the theater of the mind,
We cast and recast the characters of our play,
Giving life to some, while others fade away.
With thoughts as the script, and perception as the stage,
We direct the scenes of our everyday.
In this realm of imagination,
We are both the audience and the sage,
Understanding that nothing holds sway,
Unless we choose to engage.

We invite you to ponder the power of perception and the autonomy of attention in the shaping of our individual realities.
