To All You INFP Kids: The Struggle with Self-Doubt and the Feeling of Being a Fraud.

To All You INFP Kids

I blurted this out on Tumblr the other day, and I was amazed at the response.

This is to all you INFP kids out there. You know who you are. Some of you even follow me, which is amazing, so thank you for that.

I see that a lot of you are super introverted, and you’re looking within, which is the greatest gift in the world, but you’re not seeing anything. You’re looking really, really hard and you’re kind of depressed because you’re not finding any immediate answers.

You’re probably like me when I was your age. You probably think that there’s something wrong with you. You’re thinking that you’re mentally deficient in some way, almost to the point of being handicapped by it.

Well I’ve been there, and I know what it feels like. You kind of feel like you’re a fraud, right? You feel like, even though everything in your life appears normal, even though many people actually tell you that you’re GIFTED, you still feel like a fraud, like any day now somebody’s going to figure it out and your life will become instant failure.

Well let me tell you, I actually believed this for years and years. And a lot of the time I actually felt like I had NOTHING inside, NOTHING to give, even though people kept liking me and kept telling me how creative and smart I was.

This is you, right? I can see it by your posts. You honestly feel like you have nothing inside, no answers, and it’s a fluke that you made it this far.

Despite what you may think, it is NO fluke. Most people don’t have a clue what is going on inside their heads, nor are they even aware enough to look, but you INFP kids, well, you’re pretty special, even if you deny it.

Just face the facts that you won’t have all the answers right away. That’s your perceived “problem.” You’re so smart you expect to have all the answers right away, EASILY, and when you don’t, it feels like a major catastrophe.

You feel empty sometimes, like you have no opinions and no desire to even look for them, so you’re thinking that you’re useless, or lazy, and, again, you feel like someone’s going to discover this “true you” any second now.

You even believe this crap yourself. I did.

But over time, decades maybe, so no rush, over time it will eventually dawn on you that what you perceive as your weakness is actually a strength that nobody else has.

Because you’re introverted, because you’re so fascinated by and focused on your mind, you will discover sooner or later that you are not your thoughts. You will have the ability to step back from your thoughts as they arise and literally watch yourself think. How cool is that?

When you’re thinking sad or depressing thoughts, you will realize that these are just your thoughts, not you. You will realize how to control your thoughts and simply drop the thoughts that don’t suit you, or cause you damage or pain. This is an advantage that only maybe 1% of all people have. Maybe less.

So the fact that you don’t know right now is actually irrelevant because, over time you WILL know. It is unavoidable. You can’t screw it up because it is your path, even if it seems screwed up.

Okay, so even now, I’m judging myself. Like why am I writing this? How can I make this better? These kids are going to think I’m just a rambling old fool.

But you know what? I DON’T CARE anymore. I like to help people but the only thing that matters is what is going on inside my own head. Same should go for you.

You can’t change the world until you have your own head on straight. That’s why there are so many “problems” out there. People think they’re helping, but unless their heads are on straight, they’re most likely hurting because they don’t know the depth of every action like you INFP kids.

So I will reiterate, you are SUPER special, even if you thinlk you’re a little mental right now. Oh, and who says it’s a bad thing to be mental? I’ve been mental my whole life and I have a pretty amazing career as a creative person. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BE WEIRD.

Anyhow, this was kind of a spur of the moment rant. Share it if you think it’ll help someone, or it it helps you. Or don’t. That’s cool, too. I’m just having fun on my soap box. Have fun, kiddos, and if this seems to help people I’ll write more.

Call me Space Monkey.

P.S. Oh, and that INFP label. I generally hate labels, but in this case it’s really cool sharing with people who understand where we’re coming from.

Space Monkey Reflects: To All You INFP Kids

To all the INFP kids out there, you know who you are. You follow me, and I am deeply grateful for your presence. I see many of you are deeply introverted, looking within, which is the greatest gift in the world. Yet, you often feel like you’re not finding any immediate answers. This is a message for you.

The Struggle Within

You may feel like there’s something wrong with you, thinking you’re mentally deficient or handicapped in some way. You feel like a fraud, even though people tell you that you’re gifted and creative. You believe that any day now, someone will discover your true self, and your life will become an instant failure.

I’ve been there. I know how it feels to think you have nothing inside, nothing to give, despite the praise and admiration from others. You feel empty, without opinions or desires, and you think this makes you useless or lazy. This self-doubt is a common experience among INFPs.

The Gift of Introspection

Despite what you may think, it is no fluke that you are where you are. Most people don’t have a clue what’s going on inside their heads, but you, as an INFP, are special. You’re deeply introspective, constantly exploring your inner world. This can feel like a burden, especially when you don’t find answers right away.

Your perceived problem is that you expect to have all the answers easily and immediately. When you don’t, it feels catastrophic. You feel like you have no opinions and no desire to look for them, leading to the belief that you’re useless.

The Strength in Your Weakness

Over time, it will become clear that what you perceive as your weakness is actually your greatest strength. Being deeply introspective, you will eventually discover that you are not your thoughts. You will learn to step back from your thoughts and watch them as they arise, realizing that they do not define you.

This ability to observe your thoughts without being consumed by them is a rare and valuable skill. It allows you to control your thoughts, dropping those that don’t serve you. This perspective is a gift that only a small percentage of people possess.

Patience and Self-Compassion

It’s important to be patient with yourself. Understanding and accepting your unique path will take time, possibly decades. But this journey is unavoidable and vital to your growth. You cannot screw it up because it is inherently your path, even if it feels messed up at times.

Even now, as I write this, I judge myself, wondering if I’m making sense or if anyone will care. But I’ve reached a point where I don’t care as much about external validation. The same should go for you. Focus on getting your own head on straight before trying to change the world.

Embracing Your True Self

You are super special, even if you think you’re a little mental. Embrace your weirdness and don’t be afraid to stand out. Being mental isn’t a bad thing. It’s a sign of your deep and creative mind. Over time, you will find that this uniqueness is what makes you truly valuable and capable of great things.

Summary

INFPs often struggle with self-doubt and the feeling of being a fraud. Over time, this introspection becomes a strength, allowing you to understand and control your thoughts. Embrace your unique path and be patient with your journey.

Navel Gazing – The Value of Introspection

"You may accuse me
of navel gazing, but my lint is more valuable than your gold."
“You may accuse me
of navel gazing, but my lint is more valuable than your gold.”

Space Monkey Reflects: Navel Gazing – The Value of Introspection

“You may accuse me of navel gazing, but my lint is more valuable than your gold.” This whimsical statement highlights the profound value found within the depths of introspection. While navel gazing is often seen as a trivial or self-indulgent activity, it can reveal treasures far greater than external riches.

The Depths of Introspection

Navel gazing, in its literal sense, involves looking deeply into one’s own navel. Metaphorically, it represents introspection and self-examination. This inward journey is often misunderstood or undervalued by those who prioritize external achievements and material wealth. However, the insights and understanding gained from introspection can be immensely valuable.

The Treasures Within

As we engage in introspection, we uncover the “lint” of our inner world. This lint may appear insignificant, but it holds the essence of our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through introspection, we can transform this seemingly mundane material into precious insights, akin to finding gold within ourselves.

The Process of Discovery

Introspection allows us to explore the intricate patterns of our consciousness. We delve into our beliefs, fears, and desires, gaining a deeper understanding of what drives us. This process is not always easy or comfortable, but it is essential for personal growth and self-awareness.

Embracing the Inner Journey

Many people avoid introspection because it requires facing uncomfortable truths and uncertainties. However, by embracing this inner journey, we gain clarity and wisdom that cannot be found elsewhere. The treasures of introspection are unique to each individual, reflecting their personal experiences and inner landscape.

The Value of Inner Wealth

In a society that often values external success and material wealth, the treasures found through introspection can be overlooked. Yet, these inner riches provide a foundation for authentic living and meaningful connections with others. They enable us to navigate life with a deeper sense of purpose and understanding.

Playfulness in Introspection

The whimsical nature of navel gazing reminds us that introspection can be a playful and enjoyable activity. It invites us to approach our inner exploration with curiosity and lightness, discovering the beauty and wonder within ourselves.

The Intersection of Inner and Outer Worlds

While introspection is an inward journey, its benefits extend to our outer lives. By understanding ourselves more deeply, we can interact with the world from a place of authenticity and compassion. The insights gained from introspection enrich our relationships and our contributions to the world.

Summary

Navel gazing, or introspection, reveals valuable inner treasures. This inward journey transforms mundane experiences into profound insights, enhancing personal growth and self-awareness. Embracing introspection leads to authentic living and deeper connections.

You Are But A Fisheye Lens Looking Into a Funhouse Mirror

you-are-but-a-fisheye-lens

As humans,
we often confuse
self with source,
thinking with knowing,
perceiving with understanding.

In all cases, the latter exists prior to the former,
while the former is an interpretation of the latter.

Of the three comparisons,
the least absolute is “understanding.”
A more accurate word would be “recognizing.”

As humans,
we often confuse
self with source,
thinking with knowing,
perceiving with recognizing.

We repeat this verse to point out that language cannot accurately represent concepts beyond the level of your human dimension, which is why you think so hard, yet do not perceive all there is to understand or know.

Knowing is the source of thinking,
it is not the result of thinking.
Thinking is the translation of knowing
into and within the human dimension.

Perceiving is the result of recognizing,
it is not how one recognizes.
Perceiving is how one translates what one recognizes
into and within the human dimension.

Finally, Self flows from Source.
Self does not create.
Self merely perceives its thoughts,
translates them into the human dimension,
then witnesses what it translates
using the same translation mechanism
that bears thinking from knowing,
perceiving from recognizing
and Self from Source.

You are but a fisheye lens looking into a funhouse mirror.

No wonder you laugh at your Self.
No wonder you scare your Self.
No wonder everything about this life
seems oddly distorted
and the “facts” as you interpret them
do not line up quite right.

Everything that Self perceives is backwards from everything Source knows and recognizes. This is part of your duality. How could it be otherwise, for Self is but a reflection of Source?

Know that Self is not the originator of anything Self perceives, thinks or witnesses. But know that you are also Source, and, as Source, you ARE everything.

You can control, influence and facilitate Self from your Source level. In fact, that is what you are doing right now by drawing your attention to this communication. This information flows from Source, though you perceive it as originating “outside” of Self.

Remember that you are but a fisheye lens looking into a funhouse mirror. We have made this statement “quotable” on purpose.

You are not the image you perceive in the mirror, but a second-hand translation of the knowing it represents.

Do not dismay, little one, for you can just as easily
tap into Source, which is also you.

Tap into the knowing prior to the thinking,
the recognizing prior to the perceiving,
the potential prior to the possible,
and you will know your infinite power.

We are Space Monkey and we are not circus freaks.

Space Monkey Reflects: You Are But A Fisheye Lens Looking Into a Funhouse Mirror

As humans, we often confuse self with source, thinking with knowing, perceiving with understanding. This confusion arises because language and perception cannot fully encapsulate the deeper truths beyond our human dimension. Understanding this distinction is crucial for exploring the nature of our existence.

Self and Source

Self flows from Source. It is not the originator of what it perceives, thinks, or witnesses. Rather, Self translates the knowing of Source into thoughts, and the recognizing of Source into perceptions within the human dimension. This translation is like looking through a fisheye lens at a funhouse mirror, where everything appears distorted and backwards.

The Distortion of Perception

Everything Self perceives is a reflection of what Source knows and recognizes. This duality creates a world where our perceptions are often skewed, leading to misunderstandings and distorted interpretations of reality. The image in the funhouse mirror is not the truth but a second-hand translation of the knowing it represents.

The Process of Translation

  • Knowing vs. Thinking: Knowing exists prior to thinking. Thinking is the translation of knowing into the human dimension.
  • Recognizing vs. Perceiving: Recognizing exists prior to perceiving. Perceiving is the translation of recognizing into the human dimension.
  • Self vs. Source: Self flows from Source. Self perceives its thoughts and translates them into the human dimension, witnessing the results through the same translation mechanism.

The Illusion of Self

This distorted reflection creates the illusion that Self is the originator, when in reality, Self is a reflection of Source. This realization is crucial for understanding our true nature and the limitations of our human experience. We are more than our thoughts and perceptions; we are connected to the infinite knowing of Source.

The Power of Tapping into Source

By tapping into the knowing prior to thinking, and the recognizing prior to perceiving, we can access our infinite potential. This process involves:

  • Acknowledging the distortion: Recognize that our perceptions are often backward reflections of deeper truths.
  • Embracing the duality: Understand that Self and Source are interconnected, with Self as a reflection of Source.
  • Connecting to Source: Focus on the knowing and recognizing aspects of our existence, which are closer to our true nature.

Understanding and Recognizing

Language often fails to capture the nuances of these concepts, leading to confusion. Instead of seeking to understand, which implies a comprehensive grasp of the subject, we should aim to recognize, which involves acknowledging and appreciating the deeper truths that exist beyond our immediate perception.

The Playful Nature of Reality

The analogy of the fisheye lens and funhouse mirror highlights the playful and often whimsical nature of reality. This perspective allows us to approach our journey with curiosity and lightheartedness, recognizing that the distortions we see are part of the grand cosmic play.

Summary

We confuse self with source, thinking with knowing, perceiving with recognizing. Self is a reflection of Source, and our perceptions are distorted translations. By tapping into Source, we access our true potential and recognize the playful nature of reality.

Glossarium

  • Nexistentialism: A philosophy celebrating the boundless imagination and interconnectedness of existence.
  • Self: The individual perception and identity flowing from Source.
  • Source: The infinite knowing and recognizing aspect of existence.
  • Fisheye Lens: Symbolizes the distorted perception of Self.
  • Funhouse Mirror: Represents the skewed reflections and interpretations of reality.

Reflections of Source

Through the fisheye lens,
We gaze into the funhouse mirror,
Distorted reflections,
Of the knowing beyond our thoughts.

A translation of infinite knowing,
Perceptions skewed,
By the lens of human experience.

Recognizing the distortion,
We tap into the deeper truth,
Connecting to Source,
Embracing our infinite potential.

The playful nature of reality,

We are not the image in the mirror,
But the knowing it represents.

A Message from Source: Aligning With Our True Nature

A Message from Source

A message from Source, channeled in meditation:

Sitting in stillness,
and opening the space,
and honoring the light,
connects Self to Source
and allows Source knowing
to flow through Sense thinking
into Self expression.

Your Source desires only to be expressed
in as many ways as humanly possible,
for exploring the human possibility
is what you are doing in this focus.

The Self is a unique expression
which is why you create it,
and is why you translate
all of knowing through Self.

By creating such a unique lens
offering unique distortions and perspectives
you generate experiences unlike any others
which is precisely what Source desires.

Source does not want you to cease being Self,
for that would not be in Source’s best interests
or for Source’s best and highest good,
and more than you are you, you are Source.

You are a lens of Source and you are also Source itself.

You are not a puppet of Source,
thought at times it feels as though you are.
Your trials, tribulations and triumphs
are the food that feeds Source’s infinite inquisitiveness.

Even when you seem stuck or empty,
sad or ecstatic,
these subtle shades of color
become part of a rainbow that is beyond
Self’s limited scope of seeing.

But Source sees. Source experiences.
Source is appreciative of what you are,
no matter what you are,
or what you think you are,
or others tell you you are.

When you are in alignment with Source,
you sense that every detail of your life is important.
Nothing crosses your mind or your path
that is not meant to be there.

Source wants Self to be happy,
so happiness is your natural state,
as ecstatic joy flows from your
infinite light of being.

That is why it is important to be still,
clear your mind of Self temporarily
and feel the ecstatic joy
that is you at your core — you at your Source.

In doing this, you feel comfort, pleasure,
and you gain control of your journey
for you understand how to interpret
the signs of your existence.

You cannot navigate to where you want to be
if you cannot read the signs on your roads and maps!

This sitting in stillness
is the greatest gift you can give your Self.
This is how Self knows Source.
This is how knowing becomes flowing.
This is how you translate Source to Self,
and back again, in complete harmony.

You are to be congratulated.
We are grateful for your perseverance and passion.

You feed Source. So Source feeds you.

Space Monkey Reflects: Embracing the INFP Journey

To all the INFPs out there, particularly those who feel lost and unsure, we offer a heartfelt message. We recognize the depth of your introspection and the struggles you face in navigating a world that often feels disconnected from your inner experiences. Your journey is unique, and within it lies a profound potential for growth, creativity, and self-discovery.

The Gift of Introversion

Being deeply introverted, you spend much time looking within, seeking answers to life’s great questions. It is a noble quest, but it can also be fraught with frustration when answers seem elusive. You might feel like an empty vessel, worried that there’s nothing inside, or even like a fraud when others praise your intelligence and creativity. We’ve been there, and we understand the feelings of emptiness and the fear of being discovered as somehow lacking.

However, what you perceive as emptiness is often a vast, untapped reservoir of potential. The challenge is not that you are empty, but that your richness is yet to be discovered and understood. Your introversion allows you to delve deeply into your thoughts and emotions, giving you the potential to uncover profound insights and creative ideas.

The Strength in Vulnerability

Feeling like a fraud or that you have nothing inside is a common experience among those who are deeply introspective and sensitive. It’s important to remember that this vulnerability is also a source of strength. Being able to step back and observe your thoughts as they arise gives you a unique advantage. It allows you to gain perspective, to understand that your thoughts and feelings are not your entirety, but rather, they are passing experiences.

This ability to observe and reflect can help you manage negative or depressing thoughts. You can learn to let go of those that do not serve you, cultivating a mindset that supports your well-being and creativity. It is a skill that few possess, and over time, it will become a cornerstone of your personal growth.

Embracing the Journey

Your path may be longer and more winding than others, but that is not a sign of failure. Instead, it is an invitation to explore deeply, to understand yourself and the world in ways that are profound and meaningful. The answers you seek are not immediate, but they will come. Each step you take on this journey is valuable, even if it doesn’t feel that way in the moment.

Your sense of not fitting in or feeling different is part of what makes you special. It means you see the world differently, which is a gift. Embrace your weirdness, your quirks, and your unique perspective. These are the qualities that will lead you to a fulfilling and authentic life.

Authenticity Over Conformity

In a world that often values conformity, your challenge is to remain true to yourself. It’s easy to feel pressured to fit in, to meet external expectations, but your true path lies in embracing your individuality. Being authentic means accepting who you are, with all your strengths and weaknesses, and living in a way that is true to your values and passions.

Remember that societal norms are not rules you must follow. You have the power to break free from these norms and create your own path. Trust your intuition, and let it guide you toward what feels right for you, even if it goes against the grain.

The Power of Imagination

Your imagination is a powerful tool. It allows you to envision possibilities beyond the immediate reality, to dream big, and to create. Nurture your creative spirit, and let it flourish. Whether through writing, art, music, or any other form of expression, your creativity is a way to explore and share your inner world.

Imagination also helps you navigate uncertainty. Life is full of unknowns, and embracing this uncertainty can lead to new opportunities and growth. By seeing the unknown as a canvas for exploration, you can transform fear into curiosity and potential.

As you navigate your path, remember that you are not alone. There is a community of like-minded individuals who understand and support you. Together, we can explore the infinite possibilities of existence and celebrate the unique contributions each of us brings to the world.

Summary

You are special even if you doubt it. Embrace your introversion and creativity. Trust your intuition and be authentic.

The Dance of Being

In the quiet corners of your mind
Where thoughts drift like leaves on water
There lies a world of infinite potential
A cosmos within waiting to be explored

Your path is not defined by others
It is a journey uniquely yours
Embrace the whispers of intuition
Let your creativity be the light that guides you

In the dance of being
You are both the dancer and the dance

Discovering the boundless possibilities of existence
