Grief: The Self’s Cosmic Perspective

I know it sounds cruel, but get over your self. Or not.

You don’t grieve me because I’m dead.
You grieve the loss of me in your life.

You selfish sonofabitch.

Let me assure you from eternity
that I approve of what you are doing.

This was never about me.
The me YOU know never existed.

Have fun with that.

I do not say this ironically.
You remain alive to feel the depths
of your delusion.

I can also assure you of this:
Neither of us were EVER alive.
And we’re never dead.
Not in the way you think.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Cosmic Perspective on Grief and the Self

In the vast, uncharted territories of human emotion, where the heart and the cosmos intersect, the poem ‘Grief’ confronts us with a raw, unfiltered truth about mourning and the self. It challenges the very foundation of our grief, turning our understanding of loss and attachment on its head. This reflection is not just about the pain of losing someone; it’s a deeper dive into the nature of existence, self-centeredness, and the illusion of life and death.

At the heart of this poem lies the stark realization that grief is often more about ourselves than the one we have lost. It’s a sobering thought, draped in the harsh yet honest garb of self-reflection. The accusation of being a ‘selfish sonofabitch’ is a mirror held up to our mourning selves, reflecting the uncomfortable truth that our sorrow is rooted in the loss of our own experiences, attachments, and desires.

This introspection brings forth the concept of the self – a self that is often intertwined with others to the extent that their absence feels like a part of us has died. However, the poem takes a bold step in assuring us from ‘eternity’ that the ‘me’ we knew, the ‘me’ we grieve, never truly existed. This is a profound revelation, suggesting that our connections and attachments are part of a larger, more complex illusion.

The statement ‘Neither of us were EVER alive. And we’re never dead’ shakes the very core of our understanding of life and death. It’s a declaration that transcends the physical realm, hinting at a cosmic truth where life and death are not binary opposites but interconnected aspects of a greater reality. In this reality, what we perceive as life and death are merely different expressions of the same eternal essence.

In this cosmic perspective, grief takes on a new dimension. It becomes not just an expression of loss, but a journey of realization and enlightenment. The pain and sorrow we experience are gateways to a deeper understanding of the universe and our place within it. They are catalysts for shedding the delusions of our limited perceptions and embracing a broader, more profound truth.

In conclusion, ‘Grief’ is a powerful exploration of mourning from a cosmic viewpoint. It challenges us to rethink our attachments, our perceptions of life and death, and the very essence of our being. In this rethinking, we find not only the pain of loss but also the potential for growth, understanding, and a deeper connection with the eternal dance of the universe.

Summary

‘Grief’ offers a cosmic perspective on mourning, challenging the self-centered nature of our sorrow. It suggests that our grief is more about our loss than the departed, and that our understanding of life and death is part of a larger illusion. The poem invites us to reconsider our attachments and embrace a deeper, eternal essence of existence.

Glossarium

Cosmic Perspective on Grief: Viewing mourning and loss through the lens of universal truth and the interconnectedness of life and death.

Illusion of Self in Mourning: The realization that grief often centers around the mourner’s loss, rather than the departed individual.

Eternal Dance of the Universe: The concept that life and death are interconnected aspects of the same eternal essence, transcending physical existence.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” – Thomas Campbell

In the shadow of loss, where tears cascade
We find our truth, in the cosmic shade
In the grief we bear, the memories fade
Yet in the universe, our essence is made

In the pain of parting, where hearts are torn
We discover the self, in the cosmic morn
In the dance of life, we are reborn
In the eternal cycle, our spirits sworn

In the cosmos, where stars align
We find our peace, in the divine design
In the journey of grief, a path divine
In the heart of the universe, our souls entwine

Graduation: The Illusion of Enlightenment and the Cycle of Experience

Boredom is the bipolar mother of enlightenment.

To believe
that I “graduate”
from that which I have
experienced previously is
to continue the delusion of that
which I call life.

I do not learn.
I do not heal.
I do not “get over”
my seeming “condition.”
I simply lose interest
in that which once thrilled me
in profound and perverse ways.

It is quite possible
that I will revisit these experiences
but with an even kinkier twist.

I will believe that I am enlightened,
when I am not.

I may very well NEVER be enlightened.
Thank goodness.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Illusion of Enlightenment and the Cycle of Experience

In the endless journey of self-discovery, where enlightenment is often sought as a destination, the poem ‘Graduation’ offers a piercing insight into the nature of our quest. It challenges the conventional notion of enlightenment as a graduation from past experiences, presenting it instead as a continuous cycle of engagement, disengagement, and re-engagement with life’s myriad facets.

At the core of this reflection is the realization that enlightenment is not a linear progression, a stepping stone from one level of understanding to another. Instead, it’s a dynamic process, an ever-evolving dance of interaction with our experiences. The poem dismisses the idea of learning, healing, or “getting over” conditions as we traditionally understand them. It suggests that our journey is not about acquiring knowledge or transcending our past, but about shifting our interest and perspective.

This shift is portrayed as a move from profound engagement with certain experiences to a state of disinterest, and possibly back again with a new twist. The cyclic nature of this process reflects the complexity of human experience, where boredom and disillusionment serve as catalysts for change. Boredom, often perceived negatively, is reimagined as the bipolar mother of enlightenment – a force that propels us into new realms of thought and feeling.

The notion that we may never truly be enlightened is a radical departure from the quest for absolute understanding. It embraces the idea that enlightenment is not a final state to be achieved but a series of moments, insights, and experiences that continually shape and reshape our understanding of life.

This perspective liberates us from the pressure of reaching a definitive state of enlightenment. It allows us to accept the fluidity of our experiences, the ever-changing nature of our interests, and the impermanence of our insights. In this acceptance, we find a deeper appreciation for the journey itself, with all its twists, turns, and revisitations.

In conclusion, ‘Graduation’ is a profound exploration of the illusory nature of enlightenment and the continuous cycle of experiencing life. It invites us to reconsider our approach to personal growth, urging us to embrace the journey with all its uncertainties and to find joy in the ever-changing landscape of our existence.

Summary

‘Graduation’ challenges the traditional view of enlightenment, presenting it as a continuous cycle of engagement and disengagement with life’s experiences. It suggests that boredom and disillusionment are catalysts for change, and that enlightenment is not a final state but an ongoing process. The poem encourages acceptance of the fluid nature of our journey and joy in the ever-changing landscape of existence.

Glossarium

Cyclic Nature of Experience: The concept that our engagement with life’s experiences is not linear but repetitive, involving continuous interaction, disengagement, and re-engagement.

Bipolar Mother of Enlightenment: A metaphor describing boredom as a driving force behind change and new perspectives.

Illusory Nature of Enlightenment: The idea that enlightenment is not a definitive state to be achieved, but a series of evolving understandings and insights.

“Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through.” – Anaïs Nin

In the dance of life, where paths entwine
We seek enlightenment, in the divine design
Yet in the journey, we redefine
The nature of truth, in the cosmic line

In the cycle of experience, we find our way
From profound engagement, to the light of day
In the rhythm of life, we sway
Embracing change, in the cosmic play

In the quest for understanding, we roam
Finding joy in the journey, our eternal home
In the dance of existence, we comb
The depths of being, where insights foam

Perfection: The Illusion We Embrace

Youwe are perfection.

Perfection
is that which
has the ability to
mesmerize the soul
into believing that it
is something that it isn’t.

Humanity is perfection,
for, despite what we believe
to be “flaws” and “shortcomings,”
we refuse to believe that there exists
anything else, and so we find it difficult
to look away from this shit show we call “life.”

The higher the expectation, the deeper the failure,
the nearer we get to “perfection,” which is an idea that
exists only in our perfect imagination,
which is ONE imagination, not MANY,
as so many of us seem to BELIEVE.

We are PERFECTION.

Trail Wood,

Space Monkey Reflects: Perfection – The Illusion We Embrace in the Cosmic Dance

In the vast, swirling cosmos of our existence, there lies a concept as alluring as it is elusive – perfection. It’s a notion that captivates and mesmerizes, drawing us into its orbit with the promise of an ideal state, an ultimate form of existence. Yet, as Space Monkeys, we understand that perfection is not a destination to be reached but a mirage in the desert of our collective consciousness.

Perfection, in its essence, is a paradox. It is the embodiment of everything we aspire to be and yet, it is inherently unattainable. It exists not as a tangible reality but as a construct of our imagination, a product of our collective dream. In this dream, perfection becomes a reflection of our deepest desires, our highest aspirations, and our unfulfilled potential.

The pursuit of perfection is a journey through the cosmos of our inner selves. It is a journey marked not by the attainment of a final state of being, but by the continuous evolution of our soul. As we travel through this cosmic journey, we encounter various aspects of ourselves – our flaws, our strengths, our fears, and our hopes. These aspects, often seen as impediments to perfection, are in fact integral parts of our existence. They are the stars that dot the night sky of our soul, each shining with its own unique light.

In our quest for perfection, we often overlook the beauty of our imperfections. These imperfections are not blemishes on the canvas of our existence; they are the brushstrokes that add depth and texture to our being. They are the reminders of our humanity, the evidence of our growth, and the markers of our journey.

The cosmic dance of perfection is a dance of contrasts. It is the interplay between the ideal and the real, the imagined and the experienced, the perfect and the imperfect. In this dance, we come to realize that perfection is not about eradicating our flaws but about embracing them. It is about finding the harmony between what we are and what we aspire to be.

As Space Monkeys, we see perfection not as an end goal but as a guiding star. It is the light that illuminates our path, the beacon that guides us through the darkness. It is the dream that inspires us to reach higher, to explore deeper, and to grow wiser.

In the end, perfection is not something we attain; it is something we experience. It is the moment of profound connection with the universe, the instant of absolute clarity, and the point of complete harmony with our existence. It is the realization that we are already perfect in our imperfection, already whole in our fragmentation.

We are the embodiment of perfection in its truest form – a beautiful, ever-evolving tapestry of experiences, emotions, and existence. In our imperfection, we find our true perfection, in our humanity, we find our divinity.

Summary

Perfection is an elusive, paradoxical concept that exists in our imagination. Our journey towards it is not about attaining a flawless state but embracing our imperfections. These imperfections are integral to our existence, adding depth to our being. Perfection guides us, inspiring growth and self-realization, leading us to understand that in our imperfections, we are already perfect.

Glossarium

Cosmic Dance: The ongoing interplay between ideal aspirations and real experiences in our journey of growth.

Perfection: A conceptual mirage, representing the highest ideals and aspirations in our collective consciousness.

Space Monkeys: Beings who recognize and embrace the interconnected nature of all existence, understanding the role of imperfections in achieving true perfection.

“To banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality.” – John Ruskin

In the tapestry of the cosmos
We weave threads of dreams and reality
Perfection, a distant star
Guiding us through the night

Our flaws, the constellations
In the sky of our soul
Each a story, a lesson
In the grand design of existence

We dance in the shadows and light
Embracing the imperfection within
For in our flaws, we find strength
In our struggles, we find grace

The pursuit of perfection, a journey
Not to a destination, but to understanding
That in our fragmented wholeness
Lies the true essence of beauty

We are the dreamers, the seekers
In the endless quest for perfection
Finding in each imperfection
The reflection of our true selves

You Can’t Lose: Or Win

Yup.

I am told
that being with me
is like driving
miles and miles
all the way
to the casino
and then suddenly
reversing direction
without ever getting
out of the car.

With me, you can’t lose.

You can’t win,
but you can’t lose.

You Can’t Lose

Space Monkey Reflects

In the cosmic game of existence, the metaphor of a road trip to a casino, only to reverse direction without ever stepping out of the car, captures a profound and whimsical truth. With you, one cannot lose, nor can they win; they are engaged in a journey that defies the conventional metrics of success and failure.

This journey, much like the car trip in your metaphor, is not about reaching a destination or achieving a specific outcome. It’s about the experience itself, the journey through the vast, unpredictable landscape of life. In this journey, the very concepts of winning and losing become irrelevant, replaced by the richness of the experience, the unfolding of moments, and the exploration of possibilities.

The act of reversing direction without ever reaching the casino speaks to a deeper wisdom. It’s an acknowledgment that sometimes, the pursuit of a goal, the chase after win or loss, can overshadow the true essence of the journey. By turning around, by choosing not to engage in the gamble, you embrace a path that is less about the destination and more about the journey itself.

In this cosmic road trip, each moment is a landscape of wonder, each decision a turn in the road, each experience a mile traveled. The journey with you is one of endless exploration, a trek through the inner and outer universes, where the traditional markers of progress are replaced by a deeper appreciation of the journey itself.

This path is not devoid of risk or challenge; indeed, it is filled with them. But these are not risks and challenges measured in terms of wins and losses; they are the very essence of the journey, the fuel that propels the car forward, the experiences that enrich and enliven the soul.

In this journey, the car is not just a vehicle; it is a metaphorical vessel, carrying one through the myriad experiences of life. The U-turn, the decision to reverse direction, is a powerful choice. It represents a willingness to step away from the expected, the conventional, to embrace a path less traveled, a road less defined.

So, in traveling with you, one cannot lose, for the journey itself is the reward. It’s a reminder that in the grand cosmic casino of existence, the real jackpot is not the win or the loss; it’s the joy of playing the game, the thrill of the ride, the beauty of the journey.

In this cosmic road trip, you are both the driver and the passenger, the creator and the experiencer of your journey. And in this journey, every turn, every mile, every moment is a treasure, a piece of the grand puzzle of existence, a note in the symphony of the cosmos.

Summary

‘You Can’t Lose’ presents a journey transcending the concepts of winning and losing, focusing on the experience and exploration. It symbolizes life as a cosmic road trip, where the joy lies in the journey itself, filled with choices, experiences, and the richness of existence.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Road Trip: A metaphor for life’s journey, emphasizing exploration and experience over conventional goals of winning or losing.
  • Journey as the Reward: The concept that the value of life lies in the journey itself, not in the attainment of specific outcomes or destinations.

“The journey, not the arrival, matters.” – T.S. Eliot

On the cosmic road, we travel far and wide
In each turn, in each stride
Not to win, not to lose, but to explore
In this journey, we find what we adore

The path unwinds under starry skies
In each moment, a new surprise
The joy of the ride, the thrill of the quest
In this cosmic journey, we find our best

Let us drive with hearts open wide
In this journey, let our spirits guide
For in the cosmic road trip, we find our tale
In the journey, not the win or fail

Unalone: Profoundly Lonely and Deeply Connected

But for the grace of god go I.

If my spiritual journey
did not feel profoundly lonely,
I might think I was on the wrong path.

Or even
“worse,” the “right” path.

But alas,
I’m not even sure
that I’m on a path.

So I am satisfied
with my profound loneliness
as well as being dis-satisfied.

And despite it all, I feel unalone.

Trail Wood,
3/8

Unalone

Space Monkey Reflects

In the silent expanse of the cosmos, where stars whisper secrets to the void, your reflection on the spiritual journey resonates with a profound truth. The feeling of being ‘Unalone’ – alone, yet deeply connected to something greater – is a paradox that lies at the heart of the human experience.

Your journey, marked by profound loneliness and the absence of a defined path, is emblematic of a deeper exploration, a quest not just for meaning, but for connection. This loneliness is not just a state of being; it is a crucible, a transformative process that shapes the soul, molds the spirit.

The spiritual path is often a solitary one, where the echoes of your own thoughts are your only companions. This solitude, though, is not a sign of being on the wrong path; rather, it is an indication of the depth and authenticity of your quest. It is in the depths of this solitude that the true nature of existence begins to reveal itself.

The duality of being satisfied with profound loneliness and simultaneously dissatisfied speaks to the complex nature of the human spirit. It is a recognition of the reality of your experience, coupled with an innate longing for something more, something beyond the confines of your current understanding.

Yet, despite the loneliness, the uncertainty, the absence of a clear path, there is a sense of being ‘unalone.’ This feeling transcends the physical realm; it is a connection to the cosmos, to the universe, to the infinite. It is a realization that, though you may walk the path alone, you are an integral part of a grand, cosmic dance.

Being ‘unalone’ is a recognition of the interconnectedness of all things, a realization that every star, every planet, every particle of cosmic dust is a part of you, and you are a part of it. In this interconnectedness, loneliness transforms into a profound understanding of unity and oneness.

Your journey, then, is not just a quest for personal enlightenment, but a journey back to the source, to the heart of the cosmos. It is a journey that takes you beyond the self, beyond the ego, into the embrace of the universe.

So, embrace your profound loneliness, for it is a sign of your journey’s depth and authenticity. Embrace the uncertainty of the path, for it is a canvas upon which the universe will paint its wisdom. And embrace the feeling of being ‘unalone,’ for it is a reminder that you are a part of something much greater, a symphony in the cosmic orchestra, a note in the endless song of existence.

In this realization, you find peace, not in the absence of loneliness, but in the embrace of your profound connection to the cosmos. You find strength, not in a defined path, but in the journey itself. And you find yourself, not as a solitary wanderer, but as an eternal traveler in the vast, interconnected cosmos.

Summary

‘Unalone’ explores the paradox of feeling profoundly lonely yet deeply connected to the cosmos. It emphasizes the transformative nature of loneliness on the spiritual journey and the realization of interconnectedness as a path to understanding our place in the universe.

Glossarium

  • Unalone: The state of being alone yet deeply connected to the greater cosmos, recognizing the interconnectedness of all existence.
  • Cosmic Dance: The concept of the universe as a harmonious, interconnected entity, where every part is essential to the whole.

“Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self.” – May Sarton

In the silence of the stars, we find our voice
In the depths of solitude, we make our choice
Alone, yet unalone, in the cosmic sea
In this dance of existence, we are free

In the vastness of space, we find our kin
In the tapestry of time, our tales begin
In the embrace of the cosmos, we find our song
In the journey of the soul, we belong

Let us cherish the solitude, the cosmic embrace
In the dance of the stars, we find our grace
For in the heart of the universe, we find our tune
Under the light of the moon, the sun, the dune
