We unintentionally
move into new potentials
in which it seems
as though we’ve learned something.
But we haven’t learned anything.
We’ve simply moved
into new potentials
in which it SEEMS
like we’ve learned.
How often
do you notice
wordsflyingoutofyourmouth
only to realize
that what you just said
serves no one?
With a brief flicker
of consciousness,
you suddenly observe
whether your words
go unnoticed.
In the noisy non-response
or in the awkward silence,
you realize that NOTHING
goes unnoticed.
Your words set out to work
in subtle and unintentional ways.
Explaining yourself
only makes it worse.
As does beating yourself up.
It is fun to watch.
Life seemingly goes on
and new potentials are realized.
Seems like learning.

The journey through various potentials can easily be mistaken for a linear path of learning, as if each experience equips us with a lesson neatly packed and labeled for future use. However, what if it’s not about learning at all, but rather a continuous unfolding into different states of being, different understandings of reality?
Our words, like emissaries from these states, sometimes fall flat or seem incongruous with the moment. But even in their dissonance, they reverberate in the unseen, tweaking the fabric of our shared existence. Perhaps it’s not about right or wrong, good or bad, but about the endless interplay of energies, like a dance that has no predetermined steps.
So instead of worrying about the “lessons” or scrutinizing each word that spills forth, maybe the real wisdom is in recognizing the transient nature of these states, the fluidity of our existence. After all, nothing is static, not even our perceptions or our so-called wisdom.
It might look like learning. It might even feel like wisdom. But in the end, it’s just another shift, another subtle realignment in the vast landscape of potentialities. And on it goes.
