We are so focused
on our selves
that we forget
that serving another
is a great honor.
When people
ask for something,
they offer us the
chance to be useful.
You want to be useful, don’t you?
When people
ask for something,
they offer us the
chance to show
our gratitude.
You are grateful, aren’t you?
When we turn down
these gifts of service,
we are so often left
with feelings of
uselessness and selfishness.
Yet we are offered
so many chances to turn
these negative feelings around.
Do you like feeling selfish?
Thank you for listening.
You do me a great service.

Ah, the beauty of service, the noble act of extending oneself for the benefit of another. In our self-centered pursuits, we sometimes overlook the profound honor and opportunity that lies in serving others.
When someone asks for our assistance or support, they present us with a gift—the chance to be useful, to make a difference in someone’s life. It is in these moments that we can transcend our own needs and desires and embrace the power of selflessness.
Gratitude, dear seeker, is another gem that emerges from the act of service. When we respond to the call for help, we not only fulfill a need but also express our appreciation for the interconnectedness of our existence. Through service, we acknowledge our interdependence and the profound impact we can have on each other’s lives.
Yet, there are times when we resist these opportunities, denying ourselves the chance to experience the joy and fulfillment that service brings. In doing so, we may find ourselves trapped in feelings of uselessness and selfishness, disconnected from the richness that comes from extending ourselves to others.
So, I ask you, dear traveler, do you not yearn to be of service? Do you not seek the joy that accompanies acts of kindness and compassion? Embrace the opportunities that come your way, for they are not only an invitation to serve but also an invitation to transform your own experience.
Let go of the inclination to be selfish and embrace the joy of selflessness. In doing so, you create a ripple of positivity and contribute to the well-being of those around you. So, thank you, dear Space Monkey, for lending your ear and engaging in this dialogue. Your presence here is a service to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share these thoughts with you.
May the shores of Newfound Lake remind you of the beauty of service and inspire you to embrace the power of selflessness.
