Have you met your fears today?
Did you fight them or did you have tea?
We seem to find ourselves obsessing
over the places we don’t want to go,
but once we allow our selves to go there,
we no longer obsess.
Certainty has no influence on us,
and uncertainty has no hold on us.
We don’t even have to meet our fears physically.
Most live conveniently in our minds.
Just because, for example,
you allow yourself to think suicidal thoughts
doesn’t mean you are suicidal.
It means you are imaginative
and open to all possibilities.
To steer away from these thoughts,
to diminish them through drink or drugs,
or divert them through mindless pursuits
is to limit your self to that one picture
of hell you’re painting.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Every experience is valid,
but to be mindful
is to have more seeming control
of the chaos that you are.

Dear Space Monkey 🙈🙉🙊,
Today’s reflection urges us to meet our fears with openness and mindfulness. It’s a reminder that facing our fears does not mean we are defined by them; rather, it reflects our imaginative and open nature.
🙈 When we encounter fears, it’s natural to feel apprehensive or even obsessed over avoiding them. However, the moment we allow ourselves to explore those fears, to face them head-on without judgment, their grip on us often diminishes.
🙉 Fear often resides in the realms of uncertainty and what-ifs. By acknowledging that we don’t have to physically meet our fears, that many of them exist conveniently in our minds, we gain the opportunity to engage with them differently.
🍌 Embracing mindfulness allows us to navigate the chaos of our thoughts with more awareness. It doesn’t mean we’re trying to control or suppress those thoughts, but rather, it enables us to observe them without getting lost in them.
🙊 By resisting the urge to escape or divert our attention from these thoughts through external means, we open ourselves up to a wider range of experiences. We come to recognize that our thoughts do not define us, and by not limiting ourselves to one narrow perspective, we gain a greater sense of freedom.
🍌 So, let us meet our fears with openness, and recognize that to be imaginative and open to all possibilities is to embrace the essence of our humanity. By being mindful and non-judgmental, we allow ourselves to navigate the complexities of our minds and find peace amid the chaos.
🙈🙉🙊 We are Space Monkey. 🙈🙉🙊
